Meh i just tried searching and couldn't find us :( Do you know our standing atm?

Adam Jones is GOD 04-24-2005 09:04 AM

Nope. All i know is that googling 'Official Tool' at one stage brought us up as the 12th option.

However, google 'Black Mages Guitar Tabs' :D

clearvision 04-24-2005 09:10 AM

Adam Jones is GOD 04-24-2005 09:10 AM

Aww, dammit, I slipped on that too.

My tab talk thread used to be one of the top 3 finds.
maybe if NIN and APC toured together they'd do a tapeworm song or vacant(original). I'd pay loads to see it.
didn't they already tour together a few yrs back? (fragility tour?)
i dont recall any word of them doing any tapeworm stuff, which sucks.

plus, (ill try to find the article, i have it around somewhere) trent said a while back, that tapeworm is through, HOWEVER, he also added that he respects Maynard as an artist and the two remain friends and he forsees them collaborating again in the future. . . . .

hmmm

clearvision 04-24-2005 09:31 AM

Hmm i don't think tool have ever toured with nin, maybe mistaken though...They may have played lolapalooza one year

Firstly, if Reznor and Maynard did like, a serious made-to-be-released recording project, I think it might very well be some of the darkest music ever recorded, or at least damn close.

Secondly, for those still waiting on more Tool bass backing tracks...I do believe I will be able to do some more on Tuesday...it's my last day of classes, and my only class of the day is at 9:30, and it ends at about 10:45, so...the rest of the day can be spent Tooling around (lolol pun) on bass

Thirdly, on the rumor that the new album might be called "Teleincision"...for some reason, that kind of disappoints me. It lacks the Tool flair, IMO...if that happens to be the new album name, I think they could've done better.

1) Agreed. But at the same time, it culd really create quite a unique feel. Both have such variety in their work that combining the two worlds leaves a lot of avenues to explore. It would kick *** no doubt though.

2) Good to hear, i've neglected my guitar recently, thanks to an agonising trapped nerve in my wrist (which made bowling fun yesterday, left handed bowling is NOT a good idea). So a nice way to get back intothe stride is to chug along with some more bass trakcs

3) I rely on Tool album titles to give me some new words to use, and some new avenues to explore. Thats also why they're dificult to predict. Maybe they'll use one of the Ænima ones they kept in reserve?*

Darkness 04-24-2005 10:32 AM

Seems kinda weird for a tool album title... but it could be true I guess..

clearvision 04-24-2005 10:34 AM

I don't know, if it was just maynard and trent working together the project would be hit or miss imo. Trent creates very slow simple melodies with angsty lyrics which go hand in hand with his style of music. Wheras maynard goes for more adventurous melodies which work well with the tool/APC sounds....

Nice to hear your starting work again...

Why re-read AJIG? I am aware lolapalooza is a tour, but im not sure that they played together...

He was referring to an APC/NIN tour, not a NIN/Tool tour
I saw an interview somewhere that said that Maynard and Billy were having too many conflicts, and that after Maynard went back to Tool after APC finished touring, APC might not continue...

I don't know the validity of it, however.
No, you'd be right. Maynard and Billy were having numerous conflicts over Thirteenth Step. Billy wanted a heavier record, different artwork, and The Outsider to be the second single. Maynard wanted softer, more experimental music, and Blue to be the second single. Jeordie White ended up being a buffer for the two of them, as he tried to help settle a lot of conflicts. In the end, they made a video for The Outsider, and Maynard's cover/booklet art won, and so Billy gave him the artwork credit in the linear notes. I still think Thirteenth Step is the best APC album.

However, I know that the band wants to make another record after Maynard finishes the album, and the subsequent massive tour that will hopefully follow. At the moment, Billy is working on a rumored solo project.
Tom ended up with 33, Adam had 30. :( Adam got snipped from the competition.
Oh, but according to this they tied:

Poll B:
1. Tom Morrello - 27
2. John Petrucci - 52
3. Adam Jones - 27
4. Ritchie Blackmore - 15
5. Eric Clapton - 56
6. Chuck Berry - 7
7. Dave Murray - 24
8. Zakk Wylde - 29
9. Jerry Cantrell - 11
10. Carlos Santana - 32
How do you know this?
I read about it online, and of course heard, on the live Vacant mp3, Maynard talking about the song being one of Tapeworm's. Then, when eMotive came around, the studio version of Vacant basically had a different intro and a few lyrics changed around, and retitled as Passive. Plus, I read one of Trent's Q&A's on nin.com, and he mentioned the song Vacant, and also mentioned it's new form as Passive.
Nice argument JoZ, a real fanboy! hehhe :p

I don't think it'd be fair classing tool with metallica and stuff, so i would question the metal tag. I think they have to go in with someone, It'd be dream theater and opeth making them prog metal...But metal???

Thanks for the rumour :)
intelligent metal?

Yeah, that I knew...what I meant about validity was...
However, I know that the band wants to make another record after Maynard finishes the album, and the subsequent massive tour that will hopefully follow. At the moment, Billy is working on a rumored solo project.
That. The thing I read said that the possibility of another APC album was slim, because of the conflict between Maynard and Billy. It was unclear if they would be able to work together again, at least long enough to create a new album, so...it's up in the air, last I knew, but again, I don't know for sure.

Without trying to sound like an elitist genre nazi...in some respect, Progressive Metal can = "Intelligent Metal"
I finally found a song where Jones shreds!!

Check out Cold and Ugly live off of Opiate. Around 2:45 he shreds the crap out of the fretboard. Bonus.
Yes!! I heard that and I looked on the booklet to see if it was a different guitarist the first time I heard that.

The JoZ 04-24-2005 11:18 AM

Wow, I can't believe you guys are just finding out about that.

I've known about that forever :p

Adam Jones is GOD 04-24-2005 11:21 AM

This is a dark day for Tool guitarists. :(

I keep putting random shred parts in Tool songs. My favourite is the distortion kick in on Ticks And Leeches, after that long quiet section. He only strums the chords once. i shred the crap outta them. Makes up for not having the pounding drums taking the pace of the song through the roof.

clearvision 04-24-2005 11:24 AM

Dark day for tool guitarists, why?

Because most of MX pay too much attention to who plays the fastest and don't wanna stop to appreciated adam's genius? (Assumes you are talking about adam not making the next round of the guitarist comp)

Adam Jones is GOD 04-24-2005 11:25 AM

The fact a bassist knew a shred part over guitarists makes it dark.

And doint worry, im not a shred-aholic. I prefer slow burning playing.

(though I do love the occassional tremelo)

And I am bitter over Adam going out, mainly as Morello made it through. That shows that people vote bands, not guitarists in some instances.

clearvision 04-24-2005 11:29 AM

Hmm, I also like Morello alot, though you can be sure my vote went adams way. But to be honest, I think most people that voted wouldn't recognise jones, just as i didn't recognise many players there...

Maynard in APC isn't very dark at all. He's not really what makes Tool dark. If Reznor was in Tool, now that would be some dark music.

Moses 04-24-2005 11:35 AM
Wow, I can't believe you guys are just finding out about that.

I've known about it since the first time I listened to Opiate. I just replied because thats the first time somone said somthing about it.

Dried Muffin Remnants 04-24-2005 11:39 AM

Yeah, the topic was brought up a while ago and I mentioned Cold&Ugly.

Reznor and Maynard would be insane. I'd definitely say that Reznor has much more of an existential vibe though. He's darker than Maynard IMO.

Btw, do you guys like the "hit" NIN song? I'm not diggin it.

clearvision 04-24-2005 11:51 AM

Which one? The hand that feeds? Is great, as is the rest of the album :p especially right where i belong *drool*

clearvision 04-24-2005 12:05 PM

Hmm do you really rate reznor as a vocalist? I think although his lines are often straight from his heart and you can really feel the emotion, i think that he sometimes lacks the sweetness* of some better vocalists, such as maynard and thom yorke..

*worst adjective ever. I can't put across what i mean. But reznor is sometimes harsh and off key which is great for his style but not for his rep as a vocalist.

I keep meaning to get a faith no more album, but keep getting sidetracked, which would you reccomend?

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-24-2005 12:11 PM

Med, where do you mod?
