student friendly party is good
but vote green!... or conservative
That's a rather odd combination of parties to vote for, isn't it?
HHG Movie: Was good as a movie, but as a guide movie it was bad. It would have been fine if they made it under a different name. Most of the casting was good, apart from Mos Def. I now hate him with a passion.
You saw it last night? Agreed up to this point, anyway.
Zooey Deschanel did Trillian really rather, I thought
Unfortunately the key word is missing from this bit.
I guess it is a problem when you make a movie of a book, but they got a lot wrong. The Vogon ships were all wrong, as was The Heart of Gold.
Yeah, I thought the Heart of Gold was supposed to be sleek and attractive. It was the ugliest bastard of a ship the world has known. |

Unfortunately the key word is missing from this bit.
Pfft. I thought they made far too big a deal out of the whole Arthur-Trillian thing :-/
Yeah, I thought the Heart of Gold was supposed to be sleek and attractive. It was the ugliest bastard of a ship the world has known.
I don't quite understand what they were thinking when they designed it. Was the big wormhole thing in the middle supposed to be the infinitely improbability drive? Anyway, when I said my CD shopping was disappointing I forgot to mention that Fopp has a load of Talking Heads CDs for £5.00, but I didn't know where to start. I was planning on asking you for recommendations on where to start. |
Pfft. I thought they made far too big a deal out of the whole Arthur-Trillian thing :-/
Yeah, especially considering book-wise there really is no thing. Did you think she was good or bad though? That was the word that was missing.
I don't quite understand what they were thinking when they designed it. Was the big wormhole thing in the middle supposed to be the infinitely improbability drive?
I've no idea :(
Anyway, when I said my CD shopping was disappointing I forgot to mention that Fopp has a load of Talking Heads CDs for £5.00, but I didn't know where to start. I was planning on asking you for recommendations on where to start.
Oh, okay. Well, it seems to be commonly agreed that the only really essential thing they've done is Remain in Light. However, of the five I have, that was the last one I bought; maybe I just haven't listened to it enough yet (it seems a bit more difficult to get into than the others), but I don't like it as much as some of the others. The point is that it hasn't grabbed me as much as any of the others (other than Speaking in Tongues), so I'm not sure if I'd recommend it as a first album. My favourites of the ones I have are Talking Heads '77 (an excellent, excellent debut, which include Superpeer's favourite TH song, I think) and Fear of Music, which is kind of like a transitional sound between TH77 and RIL. So those two would probably be my top recommendations. Other than that, More Songs About Buildings and Food was the first one I got, and the one which prompted me to go out and buy the others, but after a while of listening to it, it seems like although there's nothing of close to low quality on there, there's nothing of spectacularly high quality either. Speaking in Tongues is solid, but probably the weakest overall album of the five I have. It does have the original version of Burning Down the House, though. I could always upload some tracks for you if you want, though I think Talking Heads work better in album form. |
munky, definitely get Remain In Light. Personally I love that album, although the sound of it really varies. The first half is very funk influenced, and the second half is a lot more mellow, thanks to the role that Brian Eno (Roxy Music) played in the making of the album. I'd say that's the only absolutely indispensable thing they've done, although Talking Heads and David Byrne in general =
Quiet you  Though, could you recommend some David Byrne solo stuff? I think I saw an album of his in a Virgin Megastore the other day for £3, but the only album of his I've even heard of by name is Look into the Eyeball, so I need advice. |

Talking Heads eh? Again, I grew up on this band, I would have to say True Stories is my favourite by them, it's deffinitley worth checking out the live album "Stop Making Sense" too, there's some smashing acoustic and electric versions of songs on that album, PLUS! I got my copy for £3! What a bargain eh?
I fully agree. There aren't many books that really convey evil that successfully (well, not that I've read, anyway), but that one does it very very well. Quite alarmingly so, actually.
I've read the book of A Clockwork Orange, and seen the films. The book's not much good, to be truthful, but the film is awesome, some incredibly weird scenes, the porcelin dildos is one, and the scene were the lead character (I haven't seen it for such a long time) smacks the fat guy in the balls. The torture scene is sickening at the end, a real look away moment. And yeah, how is everyone? Been on a kinda post hiatus for a while, and haven't posted in here for a while. My new musical tastes have progressed: I bought Meat Is Murder and The Queen Is Dead by the Smiths on Saturday, and got a Johnny Cash greatest hits too. It's weird, each time I listen to the Smiths, I feel like a slight hypocrite, I always used to laugh at my dad for listening to them, but really, they revolutionised a music scene which had hardly any "Indie/Alternative" aspects. What a group! |
Apparently, the original American version of the book omitted the last chapter which really pissed off the author. The movie also left it out which annoyed him further. I'm reading a version with chapter 21 though and I'll see how it is. The author is a lunatic.

Thanks. I think the one I saw was self-titled, though.

Med, are you still looking for the Deltron 3030 cd?
Lately, I've been digging Elliot Smith. I got With Teeth, as well, so I have been listening to that. |

What do you think of it? I've only listened to most of it once through, but it didn't impress me at all :-/ And thanks for the Talking Heads Recommendations Bartender and Med :) |

And thanks for the Talking Heads Recommendations Bartender and Med :)
No problem. And if you have £20 or so lying around spare, you could always buy several.. In other news, is Audioscrobbler working for anyone else? I don't mean the usual lack of updates; my recent tracks haven't updated since this morning, and since they usually update in real time, I'm wondering. |
