It's an awesome book, though. I'm not a big fanatic of romanticism myself, but his descriptions, although sometimes were way over the top, for the most part are enjoyable. It's a good reading exercise.

Good Going, Matt. You're on your way to becoming a romanticist.

No time no time I have no time

How do literary and/or filmic texts participate in the social construction of race?

Have to answer that, then, tojes, minus, I'll get to it.

TojesDolan 04-24-2007 05:10 PM

I don't understand the question.

RunAmokRampant 04-24-2007 06:22 PM

Is it more of a general question or does it relate to a specific text?

Madam Bovary is more of a realist text, Tojes. I know it gives the impression of a romanticism with Madam Bovary's antics, but Flaubert deliberately leads on readers into a romantic world and then swings away at certain times, which gives that ironic feel that is prevalent in the text.

writing discussion?

RunAmokRampant 04-25-2007 06:46 AM

I'm a lit student, I can't help it. There's is no medication for this kind of thing.

Surf 04-25-2007 09:24 AM

Its a general question, basically looking at the whole of the year's module on culture and criticism. We can use any text we want to back it up, I'll probably use Othello, Oronooku, Mein Kampf, The Bluest Eye, Boyz 'N Da Hood and a selection of James Joyce stuff. Maybe King Kong and Birth Of A Nation if I need some filler.

I'm answering based on Toni Morrison's ideas of race and Foucault's concept of discourse/power.

I've planned the hell out of it today, hopefully it'll be done be Friday.

Dark_Link 04-25-2007 04:11 PM

omg you cannot be serious

TheBigMachine 04-26-2007 04:09 AM

so this is what english in university is like? is it an enjoyable course? i have no idea what im going to do for uni, or in later life in general.

RunAmokRampant 04-26-2007 11:30 PM

Well I'm doing a professional and creative writing course which lasts 3 years and I'm also majoring in literature. It's pretty good where I go - only 3 days a week so enough time to handle studies and work at the same time.

TheBigMachine 04-27-2007 01:09 AM

Hmm...

I'll try and come up with something nice.
