i agree, my uncle's a cop and a damn good one. but i was in the presence of some poor quality cops, not that they were nazi ss officers kinda way, but just really bad at their job.

I was just joking in my last post. But of course they do more good than bad. They can't neglect common duties they are responsible for day to day, like responding to 911 calls, helping people out that get in accidents, and the like. To say "I'd be dead without cops" is such a stupid statement. If there was absolutely no police force, vigilante or otherwise, to combat crime in a society like America, of course you would, but you'd be giving them too much credit by saying that. Look past the fact that they protect you from real criminals (and yet they don't always do this) and look at how they serve as government watchdogs. The problem isn't actually with the police, but the laws they enforce. However, the problem with the police is that it can often attract people who were probably former bullies. As a police officer, you have so much jurisdiction over others, and most are too ignorant or helpless to effectively prevent them from abusing power, which appeals to people who enjoy S&M. Especially in America, where every officer has a gun.

Maybe I am just spewing out my silly thoughts, I don't know. What I am trying to say is that police, when preventing crime, are good and necessary, but when it comes to enforcing such laws that impose on civil liberties, even if it wasn't them who are responsible for the law, they can go fu[SIZE="2"]c[/SIZE]k themselves for all I'm concerned. Police ought to know the laws they are enforcing, and the truth about what should and shouldn't be illegal.

Well in that case, there has to be a reliable police reporting system, where you can report "trouble cops" without fear of being persecuted further, and for something to actually happen. Checks and balances, man. I'm not sure if we have that or not.

Yeah, over here if you ask a cop his badge number, he has to give it to you. Then you can go and report them at a police station.
