which school are you at?/ how is it/ details

I'm at a place called ACM (Academy of Contemporary Music) in Guildford, Surrey. I'm finding it really cool so far, facilities are top notch, it has the best facilities than any other music school in Europe, I really recommend people checking the place out ( [url]www.acm.ac.uk[/url] ). All the tutors are proper legends as people and players, all working in the industry as we speak, and pass on any useful information of what is expected from professional musicians in the industry.

Its all well and good guessing what goes on in the industry and what all musicians are like, but to actually find out from people that are doing it at this present time, just confirms everything.

You get audition opportunities quite frequently for various types work, I audition for a business ran function band who were looking for a bass player to dep for one of the tutors that teach at ACM, I got it, and have learnt alot from that one audition and the 4 depping gigs I have done with them so far.

The way they do it all there, doesn't make music a chore, they encourage practise obviously, but if you don't do it, then youre there for the wrong reason and it will show when it comes down to the practical exams.

Any other info you'd like?

Yeah I read that thread. For me no, but I was worried about that before I came. But I'm always doing music related work, i.e. gigs, studio work, depping, teaching - which is like the thing I'm doing all this for, so the learning parts of the week I don't mind because I then have something to relate it all to immediately.

There have been a few times where I haven't been inspired to pick up bass, but I think that happens to everyone. The good thing about ACM is the tutors are all so inspiring as people if not players then you can always book a tutorial with them etc.

IMO that is the key factor, unless you have something to relate it all to (same with anything in life) then you will find it (perhaps boring), useless, and will eventually get bored of it.
