For real, they really proved themselves by releasing two equally fantastic albums and maintaining their spot in my top 5 bands.
They're incredible. Almost all of their music is awesome.

I want to see them live so bad. I have a feeling it would be insane.

I prefer Mars Volta better, they have so much talent.

Angry Balled Fists! 12-12-2005 03:32 PM

Yes, A LOT BETTER.

SOAD are awesome, i ahve all their olker albums bought apart for their two newest, i'm gonna buy them soon.

Mute Print 12-12-2005 03:32 PM

I don't really like The Mars Volta, but it would be worth it to see SOAD.

SOAD > The Mars Volta

The Mars Volta would be insane live but SOAD have proved themselves thus far to be a more consisently good band.

I just dont see what everyone likes about SOAD that much, I dont really find anything that great about their music. Like in some songs the guitar is awesome, (chop suey) or however you spell it... But then when the singning comes in it ruins the song for me, I just dont like the way he sings. In some songs hes just like talking really really fast, thats why I prefer Mars Volta, you can hear all the emotion they put into the music.

/listen to mars volta NOW!

Mute Print 12-12-2005 03:36 PM

I really haven't heard enough Mars Volta to judge them, from what I have heard, they don't come close to SOAD.

System of a Down use the energy of ther music to show the emotion behind it.

Angry Balled Fists! 12-12-2005 03:37 PM

SOAD's vocals are awesome, i love Self-titles and Toxicity two of the best albums ever.

cbmartinez 12-12-2005 03:38 PM

The Mars Volta tend to get lost in their own songs and while they are extremely fresh and original, like I said, they can come off as being pretentious and sometimes they create stuff for the sake of being crazy, avant garde art rock.

WHO WANTS TO COME WITH ME AND MELT IN THE SKY

Mute Print 12-12-2005 03:39 PM

Hypnotize and Mesmerize are quite a bit better than their older album, and their older albums are great. That says a lot about how good this band is.

Fish 12-12-2005 03:39 PM

I guess like most music it depends what mood Im in, before my basketball tournament the other week, some guys on the team were playing SOAD and it was pretty good music to get you pumped up, but I dont think i could sit down at my computer and listen to it.

cbmartinez 12-12-2005 03:40 PM

Exactly. All their albums (including Steal This Album!) have been fantastic. They've really progressed and recreated themselves with each album and each album's unique sound is awesome.

I haven't listened to Hypnotize much but I really didn't like the one song I heard. Is it a good CD?

Mute Print 12-12-2005 03:41 PM

System of a Down is probably the most deserving popular band around. They're so unique.

Hypnotize is amazing.

Oh that's so so false.

The older stuff is better. Much as I love SOAD, TMV is better, most especially due to how good they are live.

Excursions 12-12-2005 03:43 PM

Im not a big fan. I have listened to Mesmerize many times and there is some good songs but now, a few months after listening to it I don't feel like listening to it again. I also don't see the comparasions with The Mars Volta.

Fish 12-12-2005 03:43 PM

yeah, they are unique, I'll give them that. but songs like BYOB, i just dont really enjoy that much.

/i forgot why we started comparing the two together

Yes. It's really varied, download "Stealing Society," "U-Fig" or "Vicinity Of Obscenity."

They toured together and they're both popular on the radio. I think that sums it up.
