No im not, Mark Hoppus is one of the best lyric writers in pop-punk me thinks. tom has nothing on him.

B 01-03-2006 11:00 AM

Haha Butler you're so biased. There is no way Mark is one of the best lyricists in pop-punk right now. He's good, but he's not even a contender for the best.

Angry Balled Fists! 01-03-2006 11:15 AM

hahaha, i much prefer Tom to Mark.

Surtr 01-03-2006 11:25 AM

For me it switches between my moods. I'd say Mark is probably my favorite of the two most of the time though.

Pazz 01-03-2006 11:52 AM

I perfer Mark over Tom. Tom is still pretty good.

Bad Blood 01-03-2006 11:54 AM

Are we talking about song writing or vocals?

Dead Star 01-03-2006 11:57 AM

In general I think.

If so I prefer Mark.

IM NOT BIASED :upset:

But i think marsk tonnes better at vocals AND lyrics.

He might not be the best pop-punk song writer, but vocalist....

Virus278 01-03-2006 12:55 PM
Still dosnt compare to any of Marks songs.
what mark songs are u talking about? - he didn't really have a big part in the s/t album and a lot of blink songs before then werent that deep. He also really didn't sing a lot in cheshire cat and dude ranch which are a couple of really great albums. I know he did sing some songs in each of those albums like wasting time, josie, dammit, stockholm sydrome, etc. but still Tom sings a lot of really, really great songs in all of those albums and in boxcar racer.

redrumsixsix6 01-03-2006 03:12 PM

I usually prefer tom just cause he has more of that pop-punk voice than mark does. Altho i must admitt, tom is out of his prime in singing or it atleast seems like that! I have live videos of blink and toms vocals were much better live than the more recent ones.....it sounds like he tries and make them sound different than he used to like make them sound more punky? i have no idea but all i know is that his vocal performance is much better in live at sydney than on lets say on pretty much any feeling this video live.

Oh, and ppl are always like mark brings the softer aspect of vocals, but stockholm syndrom is prob one of their heavier songs! And marks vocals in that song get heavy in the bridge part

Bad Blood 01-03-2006 03:18 PM

Mark's voice sounds a lot more mature than Tom's.

But Tom does have the punkier/more raw voice.

FauxApathy 01-03-2006 03:27 PM

my opinion, I love mark, but have always thought tom and his writing to be crap. I like mark so much more, he's probably the only reason I like blink at all is his voice. If he never sang, but they had the same songs, I would hate blink. I can't stand tom's singing at all.

"Feeling This" live is terrible vocally for both Mark and Tom in my opinion. "Feeling This" is definitley a studio song.

very true

Pazz 01-03-2006 04:28 PM

There are two times i have seen videos live of Tom singing and he sounded really crappy. There is the video of him at the Teen Choice Awards and his voice sounds terrible. There is also the video of him on Conan O'Brien and their singing First Date and it sounded god-awful.

A band should be able to play a song live almost as good as it is recorded.

everywhere,allthetime 01-03-2006 04:33 PM

i love blink to death but they always sound off tempo

The couple of times i saw them they sounded ok. But i wouldnt blame them if they went off tempo, travis showing off properly does it for them.

everywhere,allthetime 01-03-2006 04:45 PM

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

thats very true about Travis. He does kinda ruin the bands live performance

They do a pretty good job musically when they play "Feeling This" live, but the vocals are not as good. Tom tries to hard to sing during that song live.

Untitled 01-03-2006 05:44 PM

I have videos of blink live from a while back, tom sound alright, not great. But in recent years he's got proper lazy, and sounds crap.

Your wrong. Before Mark used to sing a lot more than Tom. Even in live shows. When TOYPAJ and the S/T came out, Tom began singing more because on records his voice did get better.

Well, not always. Blink changes their song around which makes them an awesome band live. They usually sing some songs differently.

Untitled 01-03-2006 05:49 PM

Usualy changing the lyrics to sex jokes.

and Mark also wrote songs like Adams song, and Stay Together. Which are proberly more deap and meaningfull then anything toms wrote about.

16 Nipples 01-03-2006 06:34 PM

If Blink was missing either one of Mark or Tom's writing and vocals they would never be where they are today. They need them both. I dont think its fair to compare Mark or Tom in Blink, it'll be interesting when we hear Plus 44 and AVA

I thought Tom wrote "Stay Together For The Kids". It's about his family falling apart. He says so himself in "Urethra Chronicles II".

You are a dick'head, Tom wrote ST4TK (he says it on urethra II i think) and the whole band wrote adams song, while on tour. :chug:
