40 oz 2 freedom 12-31-2004 03:40 PM

They were filming the RJ and Mental sets, so I don't know if they were making a video or anything.

I forgot 2 other bands that played last night. Set Your Goals and Lines of Judaism. Both were good. SYG was pretty poppy.

Are they like...a christian band, but jewish as opposed to christian?

Like Orphand Land or something.

40 oz 2 freedom 12-31-2004 06:24 PM

I'm not sure, they didn't look jewish though. They were really good and had an old-school Boston sound.

NewKindofArmy03 12-31-2004 07:11 PM

From the Righteous Jams website:
We will be releasing a new cd on Anger Management Records from Belgium. The cd will contain a total of 11 songs - some new stuff, some demo stuff and some live radio stuff from WRES in Boston. The cd will be out around the time we go to Europe.
40 oz 2 freedom 12-31-2004 07:15 PM

What is their website?

Anyone else into Selfmindead?

So, I read this book called American Hardcore at Barnes and Nobles today, but didn't buy it. It was so awesome though, I think I should. It talked about everyone, Bad Brains, Misfits, Black Flag, etc. and had all these pictures. Man, those shows were violent. Better than anything now I think.

honkybrewster 01-01-2005 02:22 AM

I've been thinking about getting Lexicon Devil.

BuddyBigsby 01-01-2005 02:23 AM

I've read some of that book. I've been wanting to pick it up for a while but every place I go is out of it. I did get some pretty good reads at Barnes and Noble the other day though. One is Solipsist by Henry Rolilns. It's intense. It's basically a bunch of journal-like entries he wrote down over the course of 3 years while living in various cities. All of the entries though are basically like reading thoughts, and the theme of the book is Solipsism, which is basically becoming obsessed with the self and isolating yourself, so a lot of the thoughts in there are just completely cynical, frantic, and at times homocidal. It's really difficult to explain, but it basically makes you feel good about hating people.

The other one caught my eye as I was looking for American Hardcore, actually. It's called Nothing Feels Good (after the Promise Ring album) and it's about the commercialization of "emo" and the culture behind it. It's a pretty interesting and realistic depiction of a lot of these self-proclaimed "emo" kids, the only thing I don't like about it is if you didn't know your stuff before reading the book, the author would reinforce the notions that Dashboard and Saves the Day and stuff like that is emo. He actually calls Weezer's Pinkerton an "emo cornerstone" and even refers to New Found Glory as emo. I mean the book starts off ok because he mentions Rites of Spring and some of the DC band, but the more he gets into the 90's, it really shows he didn't do his research. Although, the author is a writer for Spin, so it's really not that surprising. Aside from the genre crap though, it's a really cool book

Woah, that was way more than I thought I would say.

SubtleDagger 01-01-2005 02:26 AM

I went to a huge show down in Florida, big ol' hardcore edger fest. Only real popular or at least up-and-coming band was The Power And The Glory, who are on Deathwish. Funny thing was that no one watched them. I was one of the few who was interested.

BuddyBigsby 01-01-2005 02:35 AM

How were they? I keep hearing good things, but the one song I've heard is kinda boring. I'm not bored easily.l

I actually read it, and I don't usually bother with long posts. Were you talking about Lexicon Devil at first or American Hardcore? I think I might actually check out Solipsist.

BuddyBigsby 01-01-2005 02:38 AM

American Hardcore. I've never heard of Lexicon Devil. What's it about?

It's about Darby Crash, and the Germs and all that.

Sound a lot like Converge but they're noisier. I liked, but their record can get kind of tiresome on certain tracks. "Call Me Armageddon" (the title track) is pretty good, though.

They really need to break away from Converge, bad.

EDIT: There are some tracks at www.maximumpunkrock.com.

Dillinger are considired Tech Metal or "Math Metal." Technically, they don't have much grind in them, but their music and the way they play there instruments is very technical, hence the term Tech Metal. Try Between The Buried And Me and Ion Dissonance.
