DJ Ducksauce 12-11-2005 07:03 PM

I was going to get a new amp for Christmas, but I think I might get a new computer instead. It's time for one.

I was thinking of getting a mini amp. For traveling and small school trips. Or play my guitar while my parents are driving. Just to piss them off. :p

Haha, that's laughably small.

Like my penis.

What sort of volume can you get out of that?

Jon: That's a nice solo. Very nice. I'm not really too bad at guitar, but my soloing is generally Slash/Angus Young-style generic fast pentatonics, which ain't all that interesting.
hey, thats not bad at all. the solo wasn't perfect but it was still impressive, how long have you been playing?
A bit more than two years. I've been taking lessons for a bit less than two years.

The solo sucks because I suck at improvising. I just hammer-on and pull-off as fast as I can wherever isn't in key. And I tend to fail at that second part (staying in key)

James: I love pentatonics. They feel so natural for me since I've probably played them for about 60 hours in the past 3-4 months. Get a friend of yours to do Amin - Emaj - Dmin progression type thing (sounds good with fast ska strumming, for some reason.) while you do an Amin pentatonic. Flamenco for newbs..

Fish 12-11-2005 07:11 PM

sweet, im going to get one

/Night

/Jon, yeah im not great at improvising myself, maybe if you put a little overdrive on thoses hammer on's and pull off's they would stand out more :thumb:

James, no self-pwnage please

Yeah, at a party at my house not long ago, I got a friend to play a progression in Bm on acoustic while I played some Mark Knopfler-esque licks on electric. Ended up sounding really nice. But anyone who's listened to my band recordings will know my solos normally sound like the bastard child of Angus Young and Lars Frederiksen. Which is a bit odd, I know.

Fish 12-11-2005 07:23 PM

 at Angus Young

Sup thread I had a pretty boring weekend. Friday night I did nothing just went to my buddies and chilled then last night I was supposed to hang out with my girlfriend but she got grounded and so it was too late to go this party so I stayed home and I decided to make a myspace. Then today was just super boring and I am not looking forward to school tomorrow.

Fish 12-11-2005 08:06 PM

zach! I didnt expect you to come on tonight :p

DepthsOfDreams555 12-11-2005 08:09 PM

I have been pretty busy for how a boring day it was today. I had to go to church this morning and then I had to go to two of my brothers bball games then go Christmas shopping then I had to go out t eat. I went to the mall with my buddy and got a sweet deal on a necklace for Christmas for my girlfriend I am gunna get her a stuffed animal snake too. She likes snakes....if you know what I mean.

PDWAB 12-11-2005 08:11 PM

Improvising is so much fun. I wish I was better at it, but in my lessons we've been working on a lot of jazz. Huzzah!

I have to get familiar with like 50 tunes tomorrow for my History of Jazz final. It's kind of hard when it's free jazz and has no melody to pick up on :(

Fish 12-11-2005 08:12 PM

hahah, nice  You missed a crazy night the other day, there were like people plotting plans to destroy countries and wild animals demanding cake and subliminal messages for PPOTM voting. But other than that...

/improvising it fun if you have someone playing good chords underneath your solo, plus it helps to have a few scales memorized, i only know about 4 - 5 that I can play without looking at a scale chart :(

You only need like.... all of the modes, diminished scale, whole tone scale... that's like 9. I think that covers all of the chords.
