page 50 ff is treating decimation and interpolation. it's pretty mathy so you don't need to know a lot of german.:chug:

to paraphrase it:
interpolation = zero stuffing with m zeroes between every sample and then low pass filtering
decimation = low pass filtering to prevent aliasing and then takin every n-th sample.

n and m natural numbers.

edit: oops sorry just read now that it's supposed to be scientific articles. well resampling is pretty basic and mainly covered in standard text books, maybe you need to look for something harder to find papers about it?

only the earlier ps3s play ps2 games

sony has plans to release hd remakes of loads of ps2 games in the future but there are few at the moment, and you won't ever be able to put your ps2 discs into the newer ps3s and play them

so you could shop around for one of the older models i guess

just found a link to a sony thing to tell you which games are compatible and tbh it look slike most of the ones i play are ok but with the odd glitch or 2. i can get another PS2 for about 50 quid but it'll be another 100 or so for a PS3, do i stick or twist, hmm...

I thought only the first batch (aka the most awesome batch of which I am an owner) had a fairly full compatibility with ps2 and ps games. Since then they kind of faded out the backwards compatibility, but I've not looked much into the newer slim ps3 though.

I've not played my ps3 in yonks now either, but I'm watching the release of GT5, it's a game I wanted a few years back now and also it's kind of funny watching fanboys cry everytime they shift the date back.

the newer ps3s cannot play any ps2 games from disc. not one as long as you don't count the HD remakes.

the older models can play some but not all of the ps2 catalogue.

well obviously the golf and footie ones have been improved and updated on the ps3; i hear fifa is a lot better than pro evo nowadays

the ps3 now has playstation move, which is a wii-style control system with greater accuracy, that is supposed to very effective with the new tiger woods game

i don't know about medal of honour - there's a new one out and there will quite possibly by remastered versions coming out in the future

and apparently rock band 3 is amazing for a party game type thing

the wii sounds up your street as well tho

yeah that's quite interesting. you can see where they're coming from tho, the watershed for people buying the PS3 purely on the basis that they can still play their PS2 games has long since passed (execpt for the likes of me who really don't keep up). all down to money as ever tho, if they see profit in it, as it seems might be case, then it may yet happen.

exactly why i was thinking along the lines of the wii as well. i'm no harcore gamer and it's mostly a social thing, plus what i've played on the wii has impressed greatly. apart from twatting various items in my living room while playing tennis...:eek:

In other news, real book arrived today. Looks complicated but that's good, it means I'm gonna learn a shit load just going through it with this sax player (he can explain anything to me that I don't understand), and get to make some sweet sweet music at the same time. Life is good.

Aside from that, I'm being converted from being a lifelong Nintendo owner (apart from my first console, which was a Sega Mega Drive) to being an Xbox kinda guy. Primarily because Xbox has the Fable series tbh.

i share an xbox and a wii with a mate back in london and have a ps3 up here. i only really play mega man nowadays to blow off steam but i use the ps3 a lot for streaming, and i think move looks pretty good.

also i still play final fantasy games as they come out.

the xbox kinect is already working on pcs cracked it already

its 150eu for the kinect system, terribly overpriced


also i was an avid sony ps kinda guy till splintercell/halo was out on the xbox, love those games, and i prefare the 360 over ps3

nintendo really broke the mould with the wii, having been into it since the atari first came out i thought i wouldn't be surprised by much but the wii really did impress. not just the usual improvemts in graphics and stuff but just a totally different way of enjoying games. i'm kind of convincing myself here..!

i got pretty bored with the wii, pretty cool to have but for a normal console it just gets annoying having to move to do shit sometimes

If you get a Wii, you should definitely get Smas Bros Brawl. You can get some pretty epic matches going when you've got a few people round.

yeah wii for parties n shizzle is epic, but in general i got bored easy :S

the wii is pretty good if you like all those flash games you see on the internet. it's basically that with a crappy remote with terrible tracking.

also, to whoever recommended the original fat ps3s, keep in mind that they have a higher failure rate than the new slim models (can't play ps2 games, but can play ps1 games just like the fats). I have a 60gb fat that had the YLOD, fixed it, but then the bluray drive died. for whatever reason you can't play download games without the bluray. it's super gay. whenever i am not poor I will buy a ps3 slim to replace it.

once you get games like uncharted you'll never have the desire to play a ps2 game again, so keep that in mind.
