Imma peace you guys out, woooooooooo!
Nice man! :thumb: |
This deserves it's own post.
I've been meaning to post this here for awhile, and while they're probably not very well known or popular here it has to be said. One of my favorite bands since I heard about them 3 years ago has broken up. They started in the "nu metal" era and were a 'nu metal' band at first, and then as they went through the years shed that part and just became a musical powerhouse for sure. Great lyrics, the drummer was phenomenal (and severely underrated), everything about this band was awesome. Was. 40 Below Summer, who I listened to almost every single day through my high school years, has officially broken up (sort of). Guitarist Jordan left earlier this year, as did Carlos (drummer), both founding members. This left the group with Max (singer) and Joey (guitar) as the only 2 founding members left out of 5. They were working on a new CD, but decided to call it quits as 40 BELOW SUMMER, with 2/5 left they were a totally different band. Saturday they played their last show under the name, playing songs they haven't played in 3+ years. The remaining 3 are continuing on with a new drummer and guitarist under the new name BLACK MARKET HERO. Just felt like saying, RIP 40 Below Summer. I never got to see them live, they didn't come to KC since 2002. They recorded the last show for a DVD though which I'll def be gettin. |
Oh hell yeah.
You guys know who i'm seeing in concert this Thursday? **** straight Roy Haynes... could whip any of these metal bitches asses. He's 73 and still on the top of his game... truly a man to commemorate. Also, our theatre is bringing in a ton of powerhouses this year. Wynton Marsalis will be coming back again. Chick Corea is coming, and John Scofield, and Al green. Just in this month. I can't wait. |
^ Chick Corea is so freaking awsome man. One of the sweetest concerts I've been too.
|
Yeah, I saw Chick Corea w/ Weckl and John Pattitucci on bass years ago, killer concert!
BTW, for you paintballers out there: Anyone have any experience with the Spyder Rodeo marker? I'm looking at getting one. |
Spyder paitball guns are the best.
|
I've read good reviews. Any thoughts on the Rodeo specifically?
|
I swear I just typed out something.
Never-the-less, my friend owns a Rodeo, it's a mech. right? It's always preformed very effectively for him, I've never seen it go down, and very easy to maintain. It's a very solidly built marker. Not that complex being it a sear tripper. |
Cool, thanks! Back to drums......
|
stick a smart barel on it and its godlike
|
A what?
 |
obviously a gun barrel come on(i know i suck at spelling)
|
i have a pellet gun that looks and feels (and weighs) like a .357....does that count for anything?
|
I don't have a gun of any type.
|
neither do i, im not puny enough to re
|
guns are bad, mmkay?
i used to work at a gun club, worst job ever. either you loaded the discs and got clay powder in your face (which actually hurt worse than the biggest sunburn you can get on your face) or you press the button when they say "pull" and get big cloud of gunpowder in your face (which also burned), plus a sunburn from being in the sun all day. oh man, one time i was pulling (pressing button, and keeping score) and it was really cold and raining out, so they gave us this box to keep the score cards in while i was marking it down. they brought me some hot chocolate to keep warm, so i kept it in the box next to the scorecard. they get through like 7 or 8 of the 10 rounds, and then this huge gust of wind comes and jolts my box. i grab onto it so as not to let the card fall out and get wet, but my hot chocolate spills on it, and all my pencil marks just fade away. i had to stop them and tell them they were going to have to redo their previous rounds, which meant they had to stay out in the cold for another 15 minutes. they were pissed. man i hated that job. |

here, i typed out my "prince harry" rant. (i've made a few corrections since i handed it in, since she gave us 5 minutes and i had alot to say, i just rushed through it)
"This whole argument is completely idiotic. A man wore a costume to a costume party, simple as that. I think we are all aware that Harry doesn't line Jews up and shoot them one by one. So with that knowledge, I find it impossible to accuse someone of sharing their beliefs with a costume. Does his brother, dressed as a lion, share the instinct to attack anything that moves with his razor-sharp claws? No, because infact, he is not a lion. Sure, if Harry came to the party with dead jews in the trunk of his car, the situation would be something worth spending all the time that the dips'hit media put into a person's (yes, he is still a person, much like you or I) armband. If his brother wants to be a little p'ussy and wear lion suits, let him be a p'ussy. If Harry wants to wear something that some may consider "offensive", let him. Because anyone who gets offended by a f'ucking costume is either an old jewish person who b'itches about the holocaust at every chance they get, but wont put it in their past, or they're some rich news reporter p'ussy who won't cover real news like world hunger or the slaughtering of innocent citizens in Iraq." |
I'm a pacifist, so I have no gun, nor desire to get one.
However, my dad has an AR7, its a pretty nifty little rifle. EDIT: Tomorrow I audition for my college's jazz band. I'm so hyped. |
Fun to go shoot at the range, it's good times.
|
I was jamming on some congas and bongos today in the store, oh my God, it was so fun. I'm really considering purchasing something of that sort.
I wanna be able to play it with my hands, and sticks, is that possible to play a conga with sticks too? |
Fun to go shoot at the range, it's good times.
indeed it is. shooting those old western hand guns are insane. a friend of my dads owns some and man those things kick more then a rifle. |
Sure weckl plays bongos with sticks all the time
|
depends what sticks you get, you can get one that are just that - sticks, with no beads on the end...just two butt ends
also..i dont think anybody cares and i dont think i mentioned it..but it was my birthday the day of the SOAD concert...(saturday) :D |
sic, thats a nice little paragraph you got there. I like it.

I didn't check the price of the ones I was playing at the store, I don't know what they were actually. |
thanks poppin. i could have added alot more, but i didn't want to make it a big essay, so i stuck with what i wrote down in 5 minutes.
anyone listen to oasis? my friend got me hooked on them, i've been listening to them obsessively for the last few days. |
Arrg what be ye talkin your silver tongue about?
Im very very drunk right now.
Ok, I slept the night. Now my legs feel funny and my head hurts. Great start of a school day. Luckily I have double music, double PE, then a study period, before english and maths. |
Haha, I can just imagine.
 It burns and stings so bad.
Kind of like that strange rash I have had lately. |
So anyway, I was in the local shop again today. While I picked up a pair of free sticks I browsed around like I always do.
A few things I tried out: A Mountain Rhythm Congo (I think it was) - it's a hand percussion instrument, so fun to play, when you play the center with the palm of your hand it gives a really low bass sound, and the sides have a higher pitch sound with a lot of ring. This was my favorite of all the hand percussion. Bosphorus Trash Crash - this mother was a big 20" harsh crash, sounded so good, really warped cymbal though, not even or smooth at all, which added a lot to its sound. Looked like a Stanton Moore signature cymbal, it had his name printed on the bottom. Really liked it for a raw crash cymbal, but it was priced at something like $360 CDN, way to much for me. Neil Peart 19" China - I love this cymbal, it's the one with the big edge on it, which I found gave it way more wash over the 20" model with a very small flange edge. I'm thinking about getting this one maybe, priced at $180 CDN. Wuhan 17" crash - now I don't know if this was the "S" series, or their Traditional line, but either way, this baby had so much trash it was unbelievable. It looked very similar to an A series crash, that's why I wasn't expecting the sound that came out of it. I would say it was more on the thicker side of a thin weighed cymbal, but couldn't be more than medium thin. It sounded however like an 18" or 19" trash crash china mother. I would love this thing just for a sweet wild cymbal sound, I wonder what the 18" would sound like. Paiste 2002 18" Full crash - this cymbal was my favorite out of everything. I wanted to walk away with it today. It was really werid though, I've never seen lathing like the kind on this one. It seemed like it was lathed with the thinnest micro point diamond or something, very small grain texturized all over the cymbal excluding the bell, I can't even explain it. The sound though, so full, they were correct when calling it that. Full, glassy, bright, high, but all very smooth because it was a thin or medium thin. I read retail 3 something for the price, I hope that isn't true, I didn't ask though, so I'm not totally sure. I'm going to find out next time. |
^That sounds fun.
Much better than the day I had. First of all, I walked out the house, and closed the door (With the lock on), then realised I'd left my keys inside. I dropped everything I was carrying and rooted around in my bag for them, but to no avail, So I had to leavce (Otherwise I would have missed the bus). Then I got to finally play the drums in my music class. Since I am really quite shy, I was a little *embarrassed (despit being behind a huge curtain) as there was someone else in the room with me. However, today was the first day I've ever tried the Tama 'Iron Cobra' Pedal, and I loved it. It was really light and smooth and I could actually play with my shoes on! So, the rest of the day winds by, with several enbarrasing things in some classes. I get home, and then remember I forgot my keys, so I had to run across a park to my friends house to get the spare set. It turned out she didn't have the spare set, so I had to wait until my parents got back. Not as bad as I made it out to be at the begining of the post, but still pretty crap. |
man, today was soooooo boring at school (like always), but apparentally on of my brothers teachers is giving away lightly used drum heads tomorrow, so he said hell try and get me some. :D

That shit is around -170 degress.
It'll be way higher than that seeing as every atom stops moving at -270. Assuming your talking in celcius, if not ignore me. |
