Yeah it's pretty brutal. Guts' former best friend and the leader of his mercenary group sacrifices all his soldiers including Guts to become a demon king. Then he immediately rapes his girlfriend. Guts tries to stop him but a demon grabs a hold of his arm so he has to hack it off with a broken sword. Then he gets pinned down and has his right eye gouged out. After that he's on a quest to get revenge on the demon kings for killing all his friends.

Keep in mind all of this is depicted as graphically as possible.

Well that sounds like a good read.

It's actually really well written and critically acclaimed it just happens to also have a lot of gore and rape. It doesn't really bother me.
