More modern stuff like what?
|
^ Thats what I said.
|
you guys argue so much about this, does it really matter who tool was influenced by? the way i see it, if they still make music as good as every other cd they've released i'll be happy, even if it doesn't sound like zep or floyd

After listening to it again, I can say with 100% accuracy that it is not Tool. Oh well, it's still good.
That is definitely not tool that is pink floyd no question. |
If noone ever argued about anything, what the fuck would we do here? It would get old just talking about the same stuff. "wuts ur favrit song???" "MJK is sooo hawt" It would turn into a spamfest if we didn't argue
(I doubt it would get as bad as what I said about Maynard, but I'm just trying to make a point) DoG-I'm not sure of the album name, but check out the album with Achilles' Last Stand on it. Just ask in the Zep thread if you really want to hear it. |
How about Pink Floyd and Tool? I think Tool is the modern day version of Pink Floyd. They are both progressive, both have amazing lyricists. Also, Gilmour and Jones are not what I would call lead guitarists, but they are both very influential. Waters and Chancellor are both good bassists, not technically, but they can write a nice bassline. I would venture to say that Tool's biggest influence is Pink Floyd.
I think Tool did a cover of one or more Pink Floyd songs. Could someone YSI those, if you have them? (I beleive they're live versions, not studio covers, like No Quarter) Thx
i would have to agree with you, i always think that pf and tool are somehow similar. |
PF and Tool are pretty comparable IMO. They both have ambitious albums (Lateralus and The Wall), they both have talented musician's, and they both have intelligent and meaningful lyrics and messages.....
things you wish you could say about every band, but..... |
Zoso wouldn't be my pick of where to find Zep's darker material. Look for some of their more modern stuff that's heavier.
Bonham and Carey are both immensely talented drummers, but the comparison ends there. They use 2 totally different styles of drumming, but they both execute it very well indeed.
THANK you. I'm basing a lot of this on heaviness, but when I'm talking Led Zep, I'm NOT talking about the rhythm and blues; I'm talking more of the layered dark, progressive stuff done later. Also, when I talk about Led Zep, I am completely disregarding Robert Plant. But at times, Page's distortion would sound exactly like Adam Jones, and John Bonham actually quite frequently sounded like Danny Carey. But I think it's fair to say that Pink Floyd was an influence because of Tool's tendency to sound trippy. I'd say it's a combination between PF and LZ, to be honest. Sorry for disregarding PF earlier. |
Otherside-That version of Comfortably Numb is neither Tool nor Pink Floyd. The same guy sings the entire song, and it doesn't really sound like Gilmour or Waters. The solo is good, but it has a different kind of feel than the typical Gilmour style.
EDIT: Come to think of it, this could very well be Dream Theater. Listen to it at 6:30. Now it's definitely not Gilmour. Then, after that, listen to the guys voice..He sounds like someone from our times. (Don't ask why, he just does) Either way, it's a kickarse version. |

Hmm this is true, I didn't think it sounded like PF either, but it was the only thing I could really think of :\ |
Alright guys I have some total n00b questions for the guitarists in this thread...
I got a new guitar recently, and I want to play some Tool tunes with my friends. I'd like to get to an Adam Jones sound. I was going to get a pedal, and didn't know which pedal I should get first that would lead me in the direction of Adam's sound. (If possible. I honestly don't know a thing about this stuff.) |
Just go buy 10 random pedals and you'll get that Triad sound. :p
total n00b answer There's lots of sites where you can find his EQ settings and stuff. do a search in the guitar forum for the soundfinder thread. It will have tons of links for you there. :thumb: |
so tool is a christian band never listened to em what r good ones

 The reason I laugh is that A LOT of their songs are quite anti-organized religion. So no, they aren't. They're progressive rock and border on metal. They're listed by many other sources as being metal, but on this site people mainly refer to them as heavy progressive rock. I'll give you a song from each album, though: "Sober" - Undertow "46&2" - Ænima "Lateralus" - Lateralus There are MANY good songs by them. But those are ones that have gotten people interested. |
ty man ill give em a try
|
I heard Fourty Six & 2 on the radio today

The only Tool songs I've heard on the radio are Schism, Lateralus, Sober, Ænema, and Stinkfist. Mainly Schism and Sober, though. |
The only song's on the radio from Tool that I've heard were H., Schism, and Sober.

I honestly don't know a thing about this stuff.)
You simply won't be able to match his sound perfectly, but you can get close enough to satisfy yourself, especially since you're not a very experienced player (or maybe you are?). Depending on your amp and what guitar you have, you really can't go wrong with an Ibanez Tube Screamer. That or a Boss DS-1 which shouldn't cost you more than $30-40. With those and a decent amp, you should be able to tweak your sound enough to get a sound you like. I don't know about Adam's specific EQ. He uses three different types of amps simultaneously, but I'm pretty sure he uses his amp distortion as opposed to a pedal or rack effect (and Mesa Boogie amp distortion is the king of all distortions). Now, if you have a crappy amp, you can make it a ton better for relatively cheap by loading it with Vintage 30 speakers. If you do that, you should be set. |
Last night, I was driving around with a few of my buddies(and girls lmao) and the DJ was talking, but in the background I could hear Triad Thundering away. I was like "Oh shii, it's Triad" and my friends were all "Ewwy let's put on some hip hop to shrink my balls."
:upset: Yeah, it was wierd. |
^ what the hell...
Anyways its kinda cool how Adam and Tom got an equal number of votes in the polls. |
^ what the hell...

:upset: Yeah, it was wierd.
That brings up a new question. Wtf is so great about 50 cent? He's so god**** popular and he can't rap worth his name-sake. Anyways, yea. Unfortunately a lot of the hot gals like sh!tty hip-hop. |
