I wonder what Abbey Road was like back in the day? I heard Sgt. Peppers was recorded on a 4 track.

Isn't the studio that Pink Floyd recorded Piper at the Gates of Dawn right by Abbey Road?
I'm pretty sure it was recorded *at* Abbey Road, seeing as how DSOTM was recorded at Abbey Road.

Actually Abbey Road was slightly behind the technology, 8 track had been around since the mid 60s and they didn't get it until 1969 for Abbey Road (the last recorded album). Apple Studios (where Let it Be was recorded) had an 8 track, and I think they recorded Hey Jude on an 8 track in 1968. And according to the movie Ray, Ray Charles had a 16 track recorder in the early 60s, though I did have doubts if that was exactly accurate.
Ouuuuuuur House! Is a very very very fine house! *fine house*

I'm not sure what you meant with the la's, but whenever I see them, I think of CSNY. :)
That's how the song goes.

I also really love Blue Jay Way. Then again I love all Harrison's songs from Revolver- on.

Norman 03-04-2006 02:45 PM

The Beatles? Who are they?

I finally picked up Abbey Road (on CD) today. One of my favourite bands. Well of course.

robo2448 03-04-2006 02:53 PM

I like Our House. It's cheesy and poppy but it's still a nice song. Deja Vu is gold. And so are The Beatles. Especially Abbey Road. Okay that was a really lame and pathetic attempt to get the thread back on topic. I've still been listening to lots of MMT. Flying is so trippy and cool. Blue Jay Way is a pretty good George song, but he has better songs. I like how I get such a mystic feeling while listening to it. It's hard to describe but it's cool.

The only one I can think of is "While My Guitar Gentyl Weeps."
:)

DeusExMachina 03-04-2006 10:06 PM

Blue Jay Way is decent, not spectacular in my opinion.

Truth. Those were actually the two songs I was thinking of that are both far better than Blue Jay Way.

Question about Sgt. Peppers

alright im looking to buy the vinyl because its the only one i dont have and was wondering which one is better the one with the red top or the one with the yellow top because ive had the chance to buy both but i dont know which one is more valueble or isnt there a difference. o and by the way they both come with the cut outs still in tact and i am estatic about that.

Britton 03-07-2006 10:01 PM

I think they are both worth the same amount.

Get them both

Ephemeral 03-07-2006 10:40 PM

Why not buy the CD?

magicbus 03-07-2006 11:08 PM

3 day bump.

Anyways, we rented the Anthology dvd's from the library and I watched the first one today. Pretty cool seeing how it all came together. It was also pretty funny how they had to tell Stu to turn around for pictures because his fingering on the neck was all wrong

Classics_of_Love 03-07-2006 11:40 PM

Because vinyl is not only better quality but he will get the original artwork, which was a really big part of that album.
Because vinyl is not only better quality but he will get the original artwork, which was a really big part of that album.
no, vinyl doesn't sound better......tape masters sound better than digital masters, however.

Basically, if you take a master tape (pretty much every song from the early-mid 50s to the early 80s) released it both on a CD and vinyl, the CD will sound better, I don't care what you think.

However, if you take a digital recording and don't master it through tape, it won't sound as good.

Leper 03-08-2006 12:58 AM

Vinyls are more fun to collect though. I also like the enlarged artwork as well.

Seafroggys 03-08-2006 02:22 AM

well true, and vinyl's artwork are unmatched. I was talking about pure sonic characteristics.

Leper 03-08-2006 02:41 AM

I don't think I could really tell the difference in sound quality if I heard a vinyl in good shape, and then a cd. But yeah I know what you mean Seafroggys.

rockinbass17 03-08-2006 07:35 PM

I hear the sound difference between vinyl and cd's, and cd's definatley sound better, but I enjoy listening to music, especially older music, on vinyl. It feels more genuine, and its different. I finally got my needle on my record player fixed. Hoorah.

So true dude, I have a bunch of my dads and mom's old vinyl, Led Zepplin II, Rubber Soul, Jimi Hendrix Expiernce, The James Gang, Hotel California, it feels more authentic to me listening to it on record.

BTW does anyone here know how to fix a broken turn belt on a record player?

No clue man. My advice would be to buy a new record player if possible.

somehow I doubt that. unless he had two 8-tracks that were synched up somehow. i think people were always trying to do stuff like that.

Kaleidoscope Eyes 03-11-2006 10:39 AM

In 1969, The Grateful Dead recorded Aoxomoxoa with a sixteen track machine, one of the first (if not the first) in the country. Maybe it took a couple of years to ship one over to Abbey Road :D

Led-ZeppelinIV 03-11-2006 11:06 AM

Of course vinyl sounds better. It's an uninterupted sound, while CDs use digital sampling. If you can find a good quality vinyl that's not all scratched up, it will sound way warmer and brighter than a CD.

Just call the manufacturer and see if you can buy a replacement, otherwise look on ebay.

warmer and brighter? Do you know what you're saying :)

I know Hendrix had one of the first 16 trackrecorders in his Electric Ladyland Studio in like 1969. I'm sure Ray Charles probably had like two 8 tracks synced (or even 4 4 tracks synced, if its early enough), or the movie was just full of ****.

Well, I guess those wouldn't really be the right words. It's hard to describe. It's like... fuller? I don't know. It's just better.

Leper 03-11-2006 09:32 PM

Yeah I got what you were saying. I don't think human ears are sensitive enough to really pick up the interuptions on a CD though.

magicbus 03-13-2006 11:13 PM

Here's my take on pre-Rubber Soul albums:

I'm starting to get into more of the early stuff now that I've watched the Anthology. Before then I never really gave most of those songs a chance, but after hearing them on the movie, I realized they're good too.

Early songs I really like:

A Hard Day's Night
I'll Be Back
I Should've Known Better
Can't Buy Me Love
If I Fell
Eight Days A Week
I Saw Her Standing There
Please Please Me
Love Me Do
Do You Want To Know A Secret
Twist And Shout
It Won't Be Long
All My Loving
Till There Was You
I Wanna Be Your Man

I don't like all the other stuff that's like Chuck Berry covers and 50's rock type stuff. I don't really dig on that.

And while on the subject of early stuff, the entire Help! album is great.

4th page bump

Leper 03-13-2006 11:21 PM

The only thing I don't like about the Beatles early stuff is that some of it is way too sappy, but I guess that was the style at the time.

gmoneyguy 03-13-2006 11:52 PM

They maybe sappy but they are catchy as hell.
