I just got back from donating blood. (e-ego ++)

My time was 5:48, which is the new record amongst my friends.

A friend did it for the first time and she hated every second of it. I was about to leave, as I'd been done for 10 minutes by the time she was seated, but I figured I didn't have anything better to do with my time, so I took her mind off of it for the 9 minutes the needle was in her arm. Then her sister passed out from giving her blood too quickly (she would have beat me by a minute if she hadn't started blacking out). There were 4 people passing out in the time I was there, which is alot.

Now my arm hurts. :( I didn't think it through and just took whatever arm was available to take from at the time, and it was my left. Now I can't write or type or basically do anything that involves bending with it.
A very generious thing to do though. This world needs more people like you. When I am of age I am going to be donating blood for sure.

Ditto, I will when Im 18.

Win A Rabbit 12-05-2006 11:42 PM

The age to donate here is 17, Electric Requiem.

The worst part of it (for me atleast, my friends don't seem to mind) is definately the finger prick at the start to see if your iron levels are good enough.

After that it's just a bit of slight discomfort for a couple minutes, then you get cookies and juice. How good is that?

My friend's mom has donated blood 32 times now. I've only done 2, but I'm working on it.

Sunshine 12-05-2006 11:45 PM

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to give blood, even if I was 17.

Which happens 2 Tuesdays from now, BTW.

Not only did I live in Japan for 3 years [I've been in the states for a year and a few months, though], but I visited Vietnam/Cambodia for a week right before I left Japan.

And I'm pretty sure you have to wait a few years after certain 3rd world countries. Like those, for example.

I could be mistaken though.

Brokensticks 12-05-2006 11:46 PM

Thats great though, you're saving lives, and maybe one day your own!

Even if you do it just for the cookies and juice it's good to do! lol.

Hmm, I know it asked me if I lived (not visited) anywhere other than Canada or US in the last 3 years, and it asked if I'd ever lived in Africa, but I don't think it would affect it if you lived in Japan.

I'm not 100% on that, though. I'd recommend you call ahead of time to make sure, don't wanna show up and go through the finger prick (I feel like such a baby saying that) just to get turned down. I guess you could always grab some cookies on the way out, though.

Sunshine 12-05-2006 11:52 PM

Ugh, the finger prick.

I've had nightmares about it.

When I was little, like, REALLY little [not only was I young, but I was incredibly stunted in growth], I was often at the hospital for lots and lots of problems.

My mom had to sit me in her lap in a chair and hold my finger up for that damn finger prick.

I'm not sure I'd be able to do it again.

As stupid and silly and insignificant as that sounds, it was damnably scarring.

Win A Rabbit 12-05-2006 11:56 PM

I totally understand. I used to have the biggest fear of needles (I'm a whole lot better now, I'm using this as a way to get over my fear of them, too) from one time when I was maybe 7 or 8, and I went to get a shot for something, and I remember the guy beside me (right after I got my shot) started blacking out and there was all this commotion.

The next time I went to get a needle (tetanus shot) I had to get 3 people to hold me still. I hated it, even though it was a 3 second thing. I hated needles from then on, and now I just mildly dislike them.

LoneStarDrummer 12-06-2006 12:06 AM

sunday my mom made chicken gumbo and she put some in a plastic tuperware thing so i could take some back to my room here at school. it's been in the refridgerator since then. i'm eating it now and it's goood.

reminds me of home.

I can't stand shots ><

I remember being that same small little person (not quite AS little, though), and it took 3 nurses and my mom to hold me down to get a couple shots.

It's weird, though, because I kind of like getting piercings. I have 5, and will be getting 2 more in my left ear cartilage [industrial, whoo~]

LoneStarDrummer 12-06-2006 12:13 AM

i've never really minded getting shots so long as i didn't look at the needle entering the skin. next time i get a shot i plan on watching the needle the whole time.

i think i can handle it.

Win A Rabbit 12-06-2006 12:15 AM

I've been so close to getting a piercing many many times, but still haven't.

I'm still thinking of getting my ears pierced and stretched, but the size I'd want them is just a bit bigger than the "point of no return", where they wouldn't grow back. That's the only thing that's stopping me, really.

Jeff 12-06-2006 12:26 AM

sup guys

Brokensticks 12-06-2006 12:28 AM

Not much what about you Jeff?

Chippy569 12-06-2006 12:28 AM

i get to do that monday!!! i love giving blood. my type is B- which is like 2% of the population, meaning i need to help out my bretheren and give blood as often as possible!

Brokensticks 12-06-2006 12:30 AM

I have no clue as to what blood-type I am. I guess I should find out!

Jeff 12-06-2006 12:37 AM

Brokensticks 12-06-2006 12:39 AM

Sounds like fun.

I'm off to bed everyone, tired as heck!!

Behave

Cocaberry 12-06-2006 12:40 AM

Good stuff. Candlebox is awesome.

Sunshine 12-06-2006 12:43 AM

I'm O+, whoo golden blood.

That means in long lines of people, I get ushered to the front 'cause of priority.

That is, if I ever do it.

Rarg, gauges ><

I couldn't do it.

I have a 14g in my right cartilage, but that's because I was crowd surfing at a Less Than Jake show, and they dropped me [but not hard, yay], and my earring [which was a normal size at the time] caught on something and stretched my hole out.

I didn't feel it, of course, I didn't even realize it 'til my mom freaked out because my ear was caked in blood and the earring was all bent out of shape.

I decided what the hell, why not put in cooler earrings while I've got the size.

Well you just helped establish why I was laughing at you turning 17. You already think you know the answers to everything when you really don't know shit.

The real world is much bigger than your little high school social environment.

wow so you know everything then?

I know highschool is a small portion of life and what I learn will likely have little bearing on what I will end up doing.

Jeff 12-06-2006 01:25 AM

What you learn in high school is general knowledge, not specialized knowledge. That shows what you know moron.. hahaha

Wait, so him saying that he'll donate blood once he turns 17 equates to him thinking he knows everything?

I am becoming an engineer, and there is a distinct possibility that I will do little to no math or physics in my actual job. Just because its "general knowledge" doesnt mean I will be forced to use it.
Wait, so him saying that he'll donate blood once he turns 17 equates to him thinking he knows everything?
His posts show pretty well that he thinks he knows everything.

I KNOW I dont know everything. I also know that I know more then 99% of the population, because lets face it, a lot of people dont care to learn anything.

Cocaberry 12-06-2006 01:38 AM

Haha another stupid 17 yearold...
Wait, so him saying that he'll donate blood once he turns 17 equates to him thinking he knows everything?
Learn to read.
and chances are Im smarter and more mature then you will ever be
...

There he goes making assumptions, trying to act like he knows everything. Typical for that age.
Just because its "general knowledge" doesnt mean I will be forced to use it.
Yeah.. you sure aren't using it here...

Pay attention in school kid. You really need some serious schoolin'.
