Yeah, pretty well. Got home late last night slightly drunk, which always helps sleep. Found about 10 mosquitos in my room, so went round frying them all with an insect-electrocuter, which was satisfying.

I'm still full from last night - we went to the grand opening of this new Chinese buffet thing, ate like refined pigs (ie - a lot, but slowly, with lots of wine). As we got up to pay, the owner came up to us and said it was on the house! (So we went out and spent the money on beer instead)

popinfresh 09-17-2004 03:31 AM

Bleh, winter, sif lock that thread with that bass solo video >.< It was only like 10 days old.

Wintermute 09-17-2004 03:37 AM

Ack, you're right. I think I should avoid moderating until I'm actually fully awake...

Thread re-opened.

Rollo47 09-17-2004 04:43 AM

Holy crap, this thread has doubled in size since I went away on Wednesday.

I just got back from camp, studying agricultural economics.

I have three things to report.

1. Sheep are incredibly incredibly stupid.
2. Pigs stink much more than you would think.... much much more.
3. Abbatoirs are actually amazingly interesting.

popinfresh 09-17-2004 04:49 AM

3. Abbatoirs are actually amazingly interesting.
Why?

Rollo47 09-17-2004 05:02 AM

I dunno, just seeing how they kill the sheep and stuff.

The amount of blood on the floor of the slaughtering room is fascinating; it forms a thick jelly like substance after it congeals, about a foot deep.
By far not as stupid as cows

(worked as an assistant for a veterinary once)

Rollo47 09-17-2004 05:03 AM

We didn't go to any dairy or beef farms :p

When we did argiculture at school in Year 9, they made us lead the cow down the road back to the ag farm.

Now this was a cow that was going to be entered in a cow contest the next day, and it was important it stayed relaxed and "good looking" by cow standards.

In the process of leading it down the road back to the ag farm, it fell off the road and wedged itself in behind the shed, about two feet off the ground.

It was stuck in the air between the shed and the dirt wall, wiggling it's legs and mooing.

Rollo47 09-17-2004 05:17 AM

I've got pictures from the abbatoir if you guys wanna see them.

Mmmm, that's, facinating... lol :p

I woulda thought the word would be disgusting.. but, you know :)

Rollo47 09-17-2004 05:26 AM

Well, yeah, it is, but fascinating, too.

gaslight 09-17-2004 05:32 AM

Can you pay money to lick the floor?

Rollo47 09-17-2004 05:33 AM

I'd say so...... Crap, I forgot to ask.

Man the forum is slow tonight.

popinfresh 09-17-2004 06:50 AM

Yeah, no sh!t. I've had the forums on all night in the background when I was watching the Saints Vs. Power. Now it's over, and the forums are lonely. I think i'l go to bed soon.

Stupid Saints, couldn't kick one more goal could they :upset:

bass_raptor 09-17-2004 07:04 AM

I'm here!!!

I was gonna go out with my friends, having the whole happy hour at uni followed by much more drinking... but i had work :@ **** i hate fri night shifts, gotta change my availibility. Nyways, finished work and here i am, inhaling my pasta and fixing my laptop.

popinfresh 09-17-2004 07:13 AM

Where u go to uni raptor?

bass_raptor 09-17-2004 07:21 AM

hawthorn swinburne, melbourne Australia.
Its awesome they have a cafe there that has $6 jugs of carlton draught from 4.30 -5.30

but because they love us so much they just make it cheap when we rock up, and stay open till we leave :)

popinfresh 09-17-2004 07:23 AM

Ohhh, I wanna go to monash or swinny. Either one. I went to monash to perform last week, they have everything there. Even movies and ****.

ocdrumandbass 09-17-2004 07:25 AM

rmit is where all the hot people go.

bass_raptor 09-17-2004 07:29 AM

^^^ yeah but monash is in the sticks. You need a minibus to get from the car park to the uni!! lol.

It depends what u wanna do, i do robotics, and i checked out melb, monash, rmit and swinny in y12, and swinny by FAR had the most awesome set up for it.

bass_raptor 09-17-2004 07:30 AM

popin what do u wanna do at uni?

popinfresh 09-17-2004 07:30 AM

i wanna do music, or engineering.

ocdrumandbass 09-17-2004 07:32 AM

what does swinburne have? rmit has an ok electrical setup, nothing flash, but everything we need/...

bass_raptor 09-17-2004 07:37 AM

hmm i dont reckon do music. I had a friend who is really musical (amus piano, grade 8 clarient etc) who did music at melbourne and he said it just ruined it for him, because it kinda takes the fun out of it. If your really into it and you wanna have a career in music then go for it, but you gota be commited.

having said that, Engineering is AWEsome. You get drunk all the time, my eng friends are awesome, and its not hard at all. If you are good at maths, then ALL of engineering is easy and will come naturally. only down side is less chicks.

bass_raptor 09-17-2004 07:44 AM

swinburne is really good for robotics. In the first year you make a robot out of lego and program it with a simple microcontroller with inputs and outputs for things like bump sensors, light sensors, ir sensors, lego motors etc. This is to compete with other robots in a competition of something like collecting balls and taking them to a base or flipping hockey pucks over. 3rd year u do another robot (anything you want) and there is also a huge emphasis on the robot soccor thing. They've put heaps on money into that. in final year you either do that or make another robot of anything you want. So yeah, robots galore :D

Radiobass81 09-17-2004 07:48 AM

Hey all (again).

I spent 2 days without electricity and hardly any water because of the storm :upset:. And it wasn't even a hurricane, it was jus ta tropical storm. And to make matters worse, another hurricane is coming this way...

popinfresh 09-17-2004 07:53 AM

lol, i'l get chicks with the music side. Whats involved in the engineering? I'm doing a VET course for my VCE and that's like production/welding/mechanical sorta stuff. Is it the same when u go to uni?

im off, night mx.

bass_raptor 09-17-2004 08:04 AM

Not welding and stuff, unless u goto tafe. If u do a degree along mechanical production lines you study things like physics, electronics, digital electronics, some programming, structures and so on. Its basically a lot of maths.

ShelBel 09-17-2004 08:16 AM

Morning MX!

Thanks for the thought, Jim. They got his heart rate down and let him come home last night. They're talking about doing some sort of surgery to maybe hopefully fix things (something about cauterizing/burning out some nerves around his heart or something like that), but Dad's not sure he wants to do that- a friend of his hadthe surgery and it didn't do squat.

Now I'm seriously rethinking the trip to New Orleans next week. The kids were going to stay with Mom and Dad, but if he has one of these episodes again that wouldn't work too well. And my mom-in-law is USELESS when it comes to watching the kids. (Its not a good thing when the kids don't want to go to Gramma Jan's house because they think she doesn't like them.)

Well, we have a few days to see how it goes. I'd hate to ditch our friends who are supposed to be meeting us there, but I think they'd understand. *crosses fingers* We'll have to discuss things tomorrow morning.

Crap. I hate this.

Wintermute 09-17-2004 08:30 AM

Surely it's best to take the operation if there's a chance it'll help?

Random question - is America a nation of fashion retards, or does ITV2 only screen Jerry Springer episodes from the 80s?

Radiobass81 09-17-2004 08:32 AM

^^ Both.

ShelBel 09-17-2004 08:36 AM

I think its just the people who actually go on/watch Jerry Springer. I wouldn't be caught DEAD on that show. Its just an extremely sad cross section of the white trash of America.

Radiobass81 09-17-2004 08:37 AM

^^ Yeah, but American really is obsessed with fashion and all, and ugly fashions are considered great, so that bit was true.

ShelBel 09-17-2004 08:38 AM

Couldn't prove it by me... I work in a college, and most of the students dress like complete slobs. *shrug* Of course, I live/work in BFE Northern Minnesota, so that MIGHT have something to do with it...

Radiobass81 09-17-2004 08:40 AM

I just grab a T-shirt (preferably Local Motion) and a pair of jeans, and some worn sneakers.

Wintermute 09-17-2004 08:42 AM

The dress code always seems to be enormously thick glasses, a mullet, and extra chins.
