A metallica website, a quote from lars.

GaryDaNoTrashCougar 08-04-2004 08:13 AM

Is it true that Lars didnt want solos in St. Anger because it was drowning out hid drumming or something? I heard that from somewhere, I forgot where though.

I dunno, but I heard that they felt that the solos they had didnt go with the music well so they dropped them

bassman03 08-04-2004 08:17 AM

mayb they just got bored of doing long solos in most songs, and decided to have a change.

bring back the days of ride the lightening thats what i say :)

has anyone else seen the Betcha can't play this by Hammet in the October '04 Issue of GW? The GW site doesn't have a soundfile of it yet so I don't know what it's supposed to sound like :p

Kingofdudes 08-04-2004 07:38 PM

i havent read a GW for a while since I dont have the money, and I would usually read someone else's from school.

fenderbender89 08-04-2004 07:47 PM
depends on era of metallica you are talking about Kill 'em all-And justice, Black-Reload, or St. Anger. There are very good songs from each era (exept St. Anger IMO) and each song from the different eras are very different.
How about SEEK AND DESTROY :thumb:
Thats a really good song.

Metallica plays it best live!

Metallica plays everything better live.

Five Magics 08-04-2004 08:06 PM

chronosquall 08-04-2004 08:32 PM

hey this is to everyone who says kirk hammett was overrated and such and isnt as good as whoever. well i just wanna let you know that kirk said himself that he didnt want to compete for the best guitarist and be in with the controversy surrounding the way he used to play a how he does now. in 1996 he said that he didnt want to showoff anymore. to hear him showoff listen to hit the lights and if you dont know what that is then you can all stfu

Warheart1726 08-04-2004 08:39 PM
hah Does anyonelse know why hetfeild stopped soloing after justice ha ?
to focus on singing? His voice is much more developed after AJFA IMO.

Warheart1726 08-04-2004 08:44 PM

but i think hetfeild was actually good at soloing he didnt need to focus that much just to throw a little lead in but whatever he still has that nasty right hand **** down ha

Kingofdudes 08-04-2004 08:46 PM
but i think hetfeild was actually good at soloing he didnt need to focus that much just to throw a little lead in but whatever he still has that nasty right hand **** down ha
Ramsey 08-05-2004 12:32 AM

Whoa, holy crap, this thread is still going strong.

Ok, I'll leave now. :(

Riffmeister9 08-05-2004 01:20 AM

Yes Hetfeild does the solo on Nothing Else Matters, which is a awsome solo, he does it live, if anyone has the S&M DVD you can see him do it live on a overdriven acoustic.

UAStokie 08-05-2004 01:30 AM

Kirk Hammett's Lead

I have a book on the art of Kirk Hammett with alot of his solos but I am having trouble understanding all the formulas that he uses. In the book it has E Pentatonic Minor, E Dorian, and E Aeolian in it. I need some help.

wibur 08-05-2004 01:34 AM

metallica are an awesome band and i love their old stuff......Justice for all!! it was even better getting to see them in concert twice!! no other concert will be as good as that

bassman03 08-05-2004 02:41 AM

in my opinion metallicas best stuff was when cliff was still about, not that i didnt like newstead cause i also think he is a good bassist but cliff was the man!!!!!

bassman03 08-05-2004 02:42 AM
