good things about france:

bad things about the french:

The food's pretty good, but they're aloof wankers, the lot of 'em.

I'm back baby! Back!

How's my favourite punk community?

In Ireland, I went skinny dipping in the Atlantic ocean, I waded in to my shoulders and had a nice little shiver before deciding that my tackle (which now resembled a worm and a walnut much more than the usual meat and two veg) hurt too much and would probably invert if I didn't get out quick, so I ran out and played naked football with some naked Germans on some beach. Needless to say, there was much swinging about.

ibanezman575 08-23-2006 07:06 PM

why should i like gogol bordello

Rise Me Up 08-23-2006 07:16 PM

Rise Me Up 08-23-2006 08:53 PM

Why does everyone like start wearing purple so much? I do not much care for it, but whenever I run into someone who listens to them, they start saying/singing it.

ThisUserIsAPipebomb 08-23-2006 11:12 PM
Start Wearing Purple
Bordello Kind of Guy
Never Want to be Young Again
Those aren't even their really good songs.

Listen to:
Oh No
Think Locally, Fuck Globally
Illumination
Occurence at the Border
Hats Off to Kolpakoff

TakeWarning 08-24-2006 04:49 AM

I could never get into Gogol Bordello, but they do have some pretty catchy songs.

coheneran 08-24-2006 05:47 AM

My favourite (on Gypsy Punks, which is their only album I've heard) is Dogs Were Barking, because of that bit that goes:

"Mama --- Diaspora!
Papa vs Gogol Bordello
Energiya probuzdeniya ayya!"

Also, Start Wearing Purple is an awesome song. "A purple little lady, for old and useless clown, SO/Start wearing purple wearing purple, tadadadadadada/Start wearing purple for me nowww!/Oh your sanity and wits they will all vanish, I promise/It's just a matter of time!"

sketchyjoe 08-24-2006 06:01 AM

Through the Roof and Underground, Occurrence on the Border, Bordello Kind of Guy and Punk Rock Paranada are my favourites.

coheneran 08-24-2006 09:03 AM

Rest in peace, Joaquin Perez, last of the Friends of Durruti. :upset:

I like Gogol Bordello but haveto agree with you. They have much better songs.

now I like Taraf De Haidouks, because after listening to Gogol Bordello wanted to listen to some more gypsy type music. They aren't punk though.

Yeah he's gay.
I wish I'd seen them in a better venue. They were great but would've been better had I seen them play in my home town (in a club with 400 capacity) rather than in London (at a 1500 capacity show.)
The first time I saw them was at a big festival.. Great, but I still had the feeling that they could do even better in a smaller venue.
At Monday's show there were around 300-400 people. It was awesome.. They took the crowd up on the stage when playing the last song (Undestructable).

My favorites go: Sally, 60 Revolutions, Immigrant punk and Bordello kind of guy.
Start wearing purple is overrated in studio version, but it pwns live. It's the one song that every single listener can sing a long to.

coheneran 08-25-2006 08:41 AM

They're playing here in November. Gotta get a press pass.

Good to see you're alive. I don't know what I'd do without more acoustic power-violence.
