Wow, I totally forgot how good Smoke or Fire is.

Brain Toad 08-19-2006 03:05 AM

The new NoMeansNo is absolutely amazing. Period.

TakeWarning 08-19-2006 09:40 AM

Hey Griff, do you know if Smoke Or Fire are releasing a new album, or is it just a rumour?

asdf 08-19-2006 11:27 AM

I'm gone since wednesday and there's only one more page added to this thread?

Liebensaft 08-19-2006 01:57 PM

There was a bit of a snafu with some server change, and MX was down for awhile.

Liebensaft 08-19-2006 02:07 PM

Eh. Can't win 'em all.
effin red sox cant win
In all seriouness, why is one team named White Socks and the other Red Socks?

ibanezman575 08-19-2006 02:53 PM

in all seriousness, thats a really stupid question

obese_breasts 08-19-2006 03:08 PM

"So, it's August 8th, and we're here in Boston writing our new record with our new drummer Dave Atchison. Dave is from Portland,OR and used to play drums in From Ashes Rise. He's an amazing drummer and a even cooler dude. We couldn't be any happier he decided to join our band. We'll be here until the 10th of September or so and then it's off to Chicago to record with Matt Allison. We're all very excited about recording this new album."

From Smoke or Fire website, sounds like anew album is on the way.

ibanezman575 08-19-2006 05:09 PM

i saw smoke or fire with the unseen and anti-flag
they were piss drunk but still played a solid set

Rise Me Up 08-19-2006 06:33 PM

Smoke or Fire are good.
Someone in my speech class likes ska.
When the teacher asked her what it was. She said, although she hated the definition, said it was like "punk with horns" and also included the fact reggae was birthed from it.
And when he teacher asked her to sing a ska song.. she sang RBF's Sellout... WTF?
Kids these days. They don't know what real ska is. They think Reel Big Fish and Less Than Jake are the only ska bands that exist. I'm really starting to despise 3rd wave more than I used to, as well as the kids who are in love with it.

Liebensaft 08-19-2006 07:21 PM

I like third wave, but I also really enjoy earlier ska. Aside from The Specials, and The English Beat, however, there's not a whole lot of early ska that I really love.

Brain Toad 08-19-2006 07:48 PM

Third wave is so bad. It's what I really hate about ska. So many bad bands, too many to even be overshadowed by the few good bands.

ibanezman575 08-19-2006 07:49 PM

reel big fish have got to be one of the worst ska bands out there

Rise Me Up 08-19-2006 08:06 PM

There are good third wave bands though; The Toasters, The Slackers, Westbound Train, Deals Gone Bad.

ibanezman575 08-19-2006 08:18 PM

the toasters dont really play third wave style

Rusty Shackleford 08-19-2006 09:40 PM

hello

Rise Me Up 08-19-2006 09:56 PM

Shutup.

The ones I know from that list aren't really 3rd wave.

You know how some local news just has fluff news? Well one of my local stations just did this thing about a local band that "combines the sound of punk and ska" which I thought was a little silly.

Brain Toad 08-19-2006 11:32 PM
There are good third wave bands though; The Toasters, The Slackers, Westbound Train, Deals Gone Bad.
But at least 3 of those play music similar to the earlier waves.

Jersey's Best Dancer 08-19-2006 11:42 PM

Just got back from Rancid and it was pretty fun. FVK (Cro-Mags) played a great set. The best part was when they played Sailin' On. Thats my favorite Bad Brains song, so that was cool. The next band, Theo and the Skyscrapers were the worst band i have ever seen. They were new wave/rock **** and used strobes and lights on stage. So that was lame, but when Rancid came on, it was really fun. Played a good setlist and played pretty well I guess. Matt Freeman's extended Maxwell Murder solo was nuts. Overall, definently not the greatest show I've ever been to, but was very fun and enjoyable.

holy_roller99 08-20-2006 12:29 AM

hey all, i am back if anybody cares. *doubts it.

They may all be newer ska bands but they play Ska in an older style, which is good. That's why I love all those bands. Westbound Train was so sweet live. So much fun to dance to. Deals Gone Bad is from my parts. They're good. The Toasters are fun live. And The Slackers are just amazing.

Oh, and Flogging Murphy, Sailin' On is probably my favorite Bad Brains song too. So good. Sounds like you had a good time.

Jessizzle 08-20-2006 09:32 AM

FVK is different from Cro Mags, Harley isn't in it, and it's John and some other dudes.

I know, but they play Cro Mags songs, they dont have seperate material. They even call themselves the Cro Mags still when they came out on stage. They were selling Cro Mags shirts haha..

Lars told the crowd twice to do a circle pit, so those two songs were fun. It was hard otherwise cause it was so packed on the floor...

Glitterati 08-20-2006 12:48 PM

My friend told me she's seeing Rancid, but I'm not sure when.

I want to see Matisyahu.

Ghostfire3 08-20-2006 01:15 PM

FloggingMurphy, did they play any Op Ivy songs at your show?
FloggingMurphy, did they play any Op Ivy songs at your show?
They played an acoustic version of Sound System. For their encore, they played 3 acoustic songs, and then like 1 or 2 more songs.
