Right now as the Bush administration gets more and more conservative, I think some Republicans may be shifting views and becoming more liberal, in a way. For example, the Nuclear Option may help Bush now, but the party could lose support and also it could backfire on them in the future.

Dancin' Man 05-20-2005 04:05 PM

This new business about getting rid of the philibuster in the Senate is quite disturbing because it will give whoever is in control of the senate complete control over federal courts. And that is bad.
Oh NO. I could never even coexist with some like that.
I have trouble sometimes, more with the vegan side of things. She's not the artsy type to be covered in paint and have stupid ideas about the world, more she is extremely cultured in the world of the arts. The vegan is tough sometimes though. She eats ice cream occasionally but no cheese. She does eat eggs but they're eggs... Her parents are old hippies and they live off of the electric grid and her dad makes baskets for a living. Baskets that he sells at places like Saks Fifth Avenue. It's a strange contrast of modern consumerism and hippy-ness in that family.

It most certainly is.
Right now as the Bush administration gets more and more conservative, I think some Republicans may be shifting views and becoming more liberal,
Well, duh. A radical always alienates the more conservative members of his party.

lunch998 05-20-2005 04:08 PM

Yes, it's ridiculous. And quite scary to think about how the party in power can pass whatever they want.

lunch998 05-20-2005 04:09 PM
Well, duh. A radical always alienates the more conservative members of his party.
I meant to an extent that the Democrats could be in much better shape in future elections.

Oh, so they're hypocrites? My gf's family may be cold-blooded baby-eating capitalists ( :p ) but at least they're forward with their intentions.
I meant to an extent that the Democrats could be in much better shape in future elections.
Depends on who they nominate.

lunch998 05-20-2005 04:14 PM
Depends on who they nominate.
Well yea, they aren't going to go from being conservative to supporting any liberal candidate.

As long as it's not Hillary Clinton, Democrats have a good chance.

Illmatic 05-20-2005 04:17 PM

Other than Hilary Clinton, who is the clear-cut canidate to be the Dem. nominee?

It's as I said, they don't have their shit together.

They need to nominate someone from the south.

1964 nominee: Lyndon Johnson (Texas) = win
1968 nominee: Hubert Humphrey (Minnesota) = loss
1972 nominee: George McGovern (South Dakota) = loss
1976 nominee: Jimmy Carter (Georgia) = win
1980 nominee: Carter = loss (only exception, and extenuating circumstances; the country was in TERRIBLE shape in 1980)
1984 nominee: Walter Mondale (Minnesota) = loss
1988 nominee: Michael Dukakis (Massachusetts) = loss
1992 nominee: Bill Clinton (Arkansas) = win
1996 nominee: Clinton = win
2000 nominee: Al Gore (Tennessee) = won popular vote
2004 nominee: John Kerry (Massachusetts) = loss

JFK in 1960 is the last northern Dem to win the election

Dancin' Man 05-20-2005 04:36 PM

Barak Obama seems to be another potential candidate. The Dems will have their work cut out for them nominating either a woman or a minority. I'll be 18 then and able to vote but I live in NY and plan on going to college in NY too so my vote will be less than earth shaking.

Also, Humphrey was put at an unfair advantage after Johnson's abysmal term.

Illmatic 05-20-2005 04:40 PM

Obama is way too young and inexperienced to even think about running in 2008.

lunch998 05-20-2005 05:00 PM

Well this is fantastic. The volume key no longer works on my Creative Zen Player. Which might not have been a big deal if the volume wasn't at zero. So now it doesn't play because I can't turn it up.

Dancin' Man 05-20-2005 05:13 PM
Obama is way too young and inexperienced to even think about running in 2008.
JFK was younger and had not much more political experience.

Captain Jack Sparrow 05-20-2005 05:51 PM

Mmm, fresh coffee.
JFK was younger and had not much more political experience.
He was enthusiastic though and had a strong political plan for everyone, young and old. Nowadays we're lucky if even two articles off the "if I get elected speech" are accomplished.

Dancin' Man 05-20-2005 06:04 PM

True, but I was just adding a bit of support. Plus, there's always hope.

Anyway, you have communist e-paraphenalia so your political comments are void. ;)

Pfft, just because I don't support either party doesn't mean I can't comment. I should kill you.

Haha, now that you point that out, I noticed that too.

Edit: Bah, this avatar is too dark. You can hardly see the picture

Woodstock 05-20-2005 07:26 PM

This is the new thing:

Say "Alpha" "Kenny" "One" three times fast.

lunch998 05-20-2005 07:27 PM

The new thing for 5th graders maybe. I'm not up to times on their new jokes.

Woodstock 05-20-2005 07:37 PM

I'm watching Team America right now. God this movie is funny.

lunch998 05-20-2005 07:38 PM

I'm about to go watch Super Troopers. That movie is so great.

Dancin' Man 05-20-2005 07:47 PM

I'm about to go watch A Clockwork Orange. I finished the book and so now it's time to watch the movie and trash it for not being as good, whether or not that is true.

RiceMonster 05-20-2005 07:52 PM

Has anyone else noticed the decline in R&M lately? There seems to be a lack of good threads.

Or maybe I'm just getting bored of R&M/MX.

lunch998 05-20-2005 07:53 PM

Books make all movies depressing and not as entertaining.

I only post in two threads, so it hasn't really effected me.

I read the book, and I really want to see the movie. Be sure to give us a full scene by scene review.

Illmatic 05-20-2005 08:16 PM

Well, I won't be going to Chicago in June.

I may cry.

Riva 05-20-2005 08:17 PM

Haha, I just got a phone call, and it was from some company. This is what happened:

/me picks up phone
/me hears slight disturbance, and a tape clicking on

Phone:
"It's Sunday the 27th May--",

Me:"No, it isn't"

Phone:"--and you have been lucky enough to be selected to play Australia's favourite phone game"

/me hangs up

Also, I got a phone call from my dad, who has nearly finished the 22 footer that he got commissioned to build, so I might be seeing him again soon.

Illmatic 05-20-2005 08:19 PM

22-footer = boat? Cool.

Also, I have to mention that A) 1960 is far different from 2008 and B) The 1960 election was kind of fishy (nothing against JFK)

lunch998 05-20-2005 08:25 PM

Women voted for him after the televised debate because he looked good.

Even the naked supreme court justices?

lunch998 05-20-2005 08:35 PM

This is true.

"The Roman's greatest contribution to society: Inventing a number system allowing people to easily keep track of Super Bowls."
I'm going to second that. Every page of that book is genius.
I usually end up on the floor laughing after reading any segment.

ATM 05-20-2005 08:38 PM

I've flipped through that book.

The Daily Show is one of the few things on TV worth watching.

Illmatic 05-20-2005 08:39 PM
Even the naked supreme court justices?
Well, except that part.

It's hard to pick one favorite part, I just recently stumbled on the Presidential Nicknames section.

"Nixon was a 'tricky' political opponent. Also, he was a dick."

"Legend has it, a woman went up to Calvin Coolidge at a party and said, 'I bet I can get you to say more than three words', to which Coolidge wittily replied, 'fuck you.'"
The best one, though is the explanation for Millard Fillmore's nickname.

Also, what does everyone here think of Godspeed You Black Emperor? I'd upload some tracks, but it'd be a hassle cause they're all 20 minutes long.
