because we download movies and tv programmes and music

Tyler 10-07-2009 03:50 PM

programmes

Nepenthe 10-07-2009 03:51 PM

ive got 3 1tb hd's and a 460gb one. half of those are just backups of the others bc im paranoid of losing all of my stolen property.

and ahahaha just got some info of my exploits last night apparently when i got home i pulled a stapler out of my pocket that i had taken from the persons house i was at and woke up my mom to give it to her. and then proceeded to make a chicken burrito with sour cream, ketchup, and malt vinegar and eat it standing in the middle of our back yard.
drive failure becomes a much bigger and exponentially pooptier problem with bigger hd capacity
Unless of course you back it up in which case it's a smarter idea because 2 large drives in RAID is much much cheaper than the same capacity in zero-redundant small drives.
yeah agreed. I have a 640 for media but I'm buying another one for back-up.

I'd buy a TB drive if it was a high quality one (a Raptor maybe idk) and I'd only use it for back-ups. As a failsafe, sure, but never rely on massive drives.
ugh why would you buy a raptor for media?

Tyler 10-07-2009 03:52 PM

I didn't say I'd buy it for media, I said I'd only buy a full-use drive of that size if it was of such quality.

well, you don't need a TB for your OS and programs so...

and people have retarded opinions about harddrives.

HDDs fail from usage. What are the most common uses of R/W on the HDD? OS and programs. What is extremely rare to R/W by comparison? Media. But people some how became convinced that having smaller drives was ideal when what is actually ideal is a small, quality HDD for OS and programs, and large, any-brand HDDs for media.

adb 10-07-2009 03:56 PM

seriously, what the hell do you guys download

I know some of you have like 100 gigs of music but jesus

Tyler 10-07-2009 03:56 PM

No that's what I'm trying to say. I said full-use of that size but I wouldn't need a full-use of that size.

I need to eat something I am not making sense.

PS New thread title because I was sick of looking at Retired and Jaundice's name.
I know some of you have like 100 gigs of music but jesus
I have a lot of movies and tv shows, plus most of my torrented music is doubled up in a seeding folder.

Meatplow 10-07-2009 03:57 PM

working with video programs takes up a lot of space

Nepenthe 10-07-2009 03:57 PM

games can be like 7gb a piece

I have 150GB of music and another 100 or so of video and image backups of my laptop and so forth...

Correction I have about 250 of videos jebus :[
working with video programs takes up a lot of space
Yes but a smart worker would work with them locally on a small capacity drive (and by small, we're still talking like 80GB), and then move them to the high cap ones for storage in between.

I have a lot of movies and tv shows, plus most of my torrented music is doubled up in a seeding folder.
this. i back up everything that im seeding so that way it can seed and be played at the same time

then i have 115GB of music, 40GB of tv shows, 20GB of movies, and 20GB of games

80 is way too small. I've used 110GB of space on my main drive, and it's got nothing but my OS and program files.

adb 10-07-2009 04:01 PM

k just curious

lol @ nobody admitting they have a porn collection

but yeah 99% of movies, tv, and games suck, etc.

you know the drill

Tyler 10-07-2009 04:02 PM

I actually don't have any porn on my computer.

Deth 10-07-2009 04:02 PM

timjim how did you get 15GB of music in the past 2 months or so

you were just bragging about getting 100 you ****** and then said you cut back

it's like you live to validate my opinions

Morumbar 10-07-2009 04:03 PM

I never seed. Yay for being a selfish prick.

I have 32,6GB of music, btw. I don't even know where'd I find the time to listen to everything if I had more than 100BG of music.

TimJim 10-07-2009 04:03 PM

animal photographs collections are lame since theyd get old

besides imagine if your gf found them

edit@ jason: i redownloaded better quality of alot of music

Carl Sagan 10-07-2009 04:03 PM

my computer has like a 67 gb hd

Tyler 10-07-2009 04:04 PM

I have about 87GB of music, I deleted a bunch, but I'd also say a good percentage of that is stuff I own and ripped myself.

TimJim 10-07-2009 04:04 PM

i own maybe 45% of what i have

Nepenthe 10-07-2009 04:07 PM

no porn on my comp either. why the **** would you download it when you can just stream it and not get viruses and ****? does anybody actually like to watch the same porn more than once?

Deth 10-07-2009 04:07 PM

I would call BS on that too timjim but idc enough to do the math

I used to own like 90% but haven't bought a CD in almost a year and bought maybe 10 the year before that. College finances yay. Not the entire reason obviously, but I miss buying music.

masscows 10-07-2009 04:09 PM

I buy like 1 CD a month. I maybe own like 1/3 of the music on my HD.

Carl Sagan 10-07-2009 04:09 PM

ripping music is stupid unless ur gonna burn it

Permanent Solution 10-07-2009 04:09 PM

I have several space hogs and I only use 40, what on earth do you have in there? =\

It's miniscule by comparison. Most of it is deleted after d/ling due to boredom in repetition.

I only own about 1/4 but I buy a dozen CDs a month probs. I own over 500 CDs.

Deth 10-07-2009 04:11 PM

I'll admit to having a porn collection
