Yep yep. Animals is where it's at. If anyone ever has doubts about Gilmour being awesome, Pigs (3 different ones) will change their mind. Solo as the end=pgpo, gpmgomg
|
Animals is so good! Dogs and Pigs (3 different ones) give me goosebumps.
Pigs is definitely my favorite, although I have to admit Dogs is a tad overrated (not to say I don't love the guitar solos.) Wright simply owns on Sheep and Pigs. I love the middle of Pigs with the distorted screams. The vocals rock, too. The middle part of Sheep with the computer reading Psalm 21 sounds like something Radiohead would do. |

Pigs and sheep are awesome, but how the hell did you come up with that. Some kind of fucked up acid trip ? |
Med, why'd you clear your post count?
I never did one of those lyrical analysis things, too much of a wuss to put out my opinion. Maybe I should try it. What currently needs to be done that hasn't been claimed already. |
I bet your not a guy who enjoys guitar solos..
I love guitar solos, I just don't think Gilmour is too great.
I have a feeling Dogs would be better if I listened to it: A. Along with the rest of the disc, and B. In the dark, like all music should be listened to
Pigs and sheep are awesome, but how the hell did you come up with that. Some kind of ****ed up acid trip ?
The radiohead comparison? Listen to "Fitter Happier" |
I dont like Animals. I recently started listening to Meddle. It Rocks.
|
I love Animals. It's probably been my favorite Floyd albums over the last week or so. Pigs is amazing.
|
Ok, I'm making this post while my mom is screaming at me to leave, so I'm condensing it to a list
1. I didn't have time to catch up on the last few pages, but I call Sheep if noone else has. I actually called it a while ago, but w/e 2. Cartman on South Park said "haha, charade you are". idk if it was a quote from Pigs, but I think so. 3. Astronomy Domine is now my favorite Floyd song 4. PinkFloyd, I believe your user title is from When The Tigers Broke Free That's all for now, will get back on later after this last long hiatus. |
Also, he's such a hypocrite.
he keeps going on about how much he loves the blues, but i don't hear an ounce of blues influence in any of his playing. Dave is an extremely bluesy player sometimes, but roger? no. In live at pompeii, which one band member isn't having fun playing "seamus"?
Late: Well everyone knows Roger is a horrible musician and obviously he's having some trouble playing the blues :D |
So I picked up Guitarworld yesterday() and there are a couple videos of Gilmour giving us a 'lesson' on how to play Breathe and Us and Them. It's not that informative at all, but it's cool to see him playing.
|
Well you can still love a type of music but not play it. I love punk (not the crap on the radio the older or under ground stuff) but there is not a bit of punk influence in anything that I've written.
And yes Animals is great, I love the keybord intro to Pigs (Three Different Kinds). Even though its not really complex, it is probally my favorite peice that Wright has written. Its just such a good opener. |
Pigs and sheep are awesome, but how the hell did you come up with that. Some kind of fucked up acid trip ?
The part of the song I mentioned is quite clearly there... Or if you meant the the Radiohead comparison, just listen to anything from Kid A (Fitter, Happier in particular, as another poster pointed out.) |
Yeah its not sung the way the rest of the song is you need to listen for it. At first I thought it was just sound random sound effects being put in like Pink Floyd does on some songs, until I saw the lyrics to the song and it was there. If you know what there saying it is pretty clear that its there.

Kind of like the messages in Stairway. ;) |

Uh, that song is from OK Computer. :-/ |

The ones in the Floyd song are clearly a message poking fun at the people listening, though, whereas the Stairway ones are some far-fetched lyrics that you have to try to here. This reminds me, how exactly do you 'play records backward?' I have The Wall on vinyl and I've wanted to try but I'm not sure what you're supposed to do. Spinning it backward manually doesn't work because you can't get a constant speed. |

Definitly true. The whole Stairway thing was definitly made up. The Floyd ones are there on some songs though, which is really cool.
Uh, that song is from OK Computer. :-/
Oh, it is? *Feels very stupid.* |
You have the wall on vinyl? I am jealous. I don't know how to actually play records backwards, however.

Not at all Floyd is known for not really doing drugs Syd Barret was mr. acid trip Youll notice that the things that seem very simple are written out of acid trips and those really complex things are made out of emotion (Waters) |
I love guitar solos, I just don't think Gilmour is too great.
I have a feeling Dogs would be better if I listened to it: A. Along with the rest of the disc, and B. In the dark, like all music should be listened to The radiohead comparison? Listen to "Fitter Happier"
Dude Gilmour is not too great? He is THE best. His solos are what real solos sound like Gilmour is like the solo king, and btw, "He plays a Mean Guitar". Last time there was a vote, Gilmour was leading in front of Clapton Hendrix Page and Beck, but Hendrix came on top a bit in front of Gilmour becaues of all the noobs who voted for Hendrix. ------- I was looking through my parents old vinyls I found some amazing stuff (back in black, frampton comes alive, beatles stuff, led zeppelin 4) I found dark side, and i was all smiles when I found The Wall. I don't remember seeing Wish you were here or Animals though, but there was a box of vinyls that was stolen, maybe they were in there? |
I think it's impossible to like guitar solos and not think that Gilmour is good. I think GaggingOrder is on the dope.
|

for sure he's lieing i think he likes that 50x hammer on pull off stuff. *cough* dave mustaine *cough* |
Shall I write analyses of Sheep and Welcome To The Machine for the first post linkage thing? Yeah, I think I will unless anyone else has already said that they will and I've missed it.
/me calls dibs on them.
As I said a little ways above, could I do Sheep? I haven't done any so far, and I'd rather do one of my favorite songs (all you haters, why don't you like it? I'll admit the biblical chant in the middle is a bit off-putting, but the rest of the song is awesome. Waters' voice somehow seems perfect for that song, and they rock the keyboard, drums, bass, and guitar well, giving each their awesome bits. I've said it before; Gilmour's riff at the end is the greatest of all time IMO. If you want to do it, that's cool. I did call it a while (like 60 pages  ) back, but I admit it's my own fault I haven't gotten on in a while. I just kept forgetting... :upset: |
My favorite solos from Gilmour are "Comfortably Numb", "Shine On You Crazy Diamond", and "Money."
They're just so destinctive. |
So I picked up Guitarworld yesterday() and there are a couple videos of Gilmour giving us a 'lesson' on how to play Breathe and Us and Them. It's not that informative at all, but it's cool to see him playing.
I was going to get that one because they interviewed Buddy Guy and did some Gilmour stuff. Any good? |
Well, it's labelled "Classic Rock Special!" so, if you were to enjoy an issue of GW, this would be it, Aaron. I like the video of it, plus it also has a section by section breakdown of Hendrix's (overrated) version of the Star Spangled Banner. Plus, an awesome Maiden video. I'd go ahead and spend the cash on it.
|
Yeah I just picked up the new guitar world a couple hours ago.
It's pretty cool, haven't gotten a real chance to read it, but the videos and lessons on the cd are nice. |
I think it's impossible to like guitar solos and not think that Gilmour is good. I think GaggingOrder is on the dope.
Yeah, nobody at all can do solos like Gilmour. Sure some of Page's may be a bit more techinical and Hendrix was a more experimental player, but Gilmour is still god. Townsend is still my favorite overall, but only becuase of his live act. |
Gilmour is definitely an inspiration for me to play guitar, his solos are simply amazing. Itīs hard to sound like him, especially because of his bends with vibratos, which I find hard to master.
|
I don't get any guitar magazines. Are they worthwhile?
I think Gilmour is amazing, but I can see how someone who's a big fan of Malmsteen or Petrucci or any of those types wouldn't like Gilmour. |
