Yipes. You're right. I was thinking of that song by him that's performed in the David Gilmour DVD, because I was listening to that earlier.

I agree with Moaner that The Wall is too over the top and theatrical at times. But I don't agree that it wouldn't have gotten any fame if it was by anyone else. I think most bands would kill to be able to write an album as good as The Wall.

moaner 10-20-2005 03:34 PM
Not to argue, but the Time solo is alittle repetive.. (It's fusty walrus!ing awsome, but it's just like.. 4th fret on the D string and different bends for the first part.)
well, if you think. i just find it overall more varied and intresting than CN.

they're both great solos, no arguments there.

I agree with this.

Thats a tough one but I'd have to say Time>CN. Lately I've been diggin the solo on The Thin Ice. It generates so much emotion for me.

BigTrav415 10-20-2005 05:36 PM

I think part of the point of The Wall was to be over the top and theatrical like that. It's not my favorite Floyd album, but just the way all the songs fit... and some are so amazingly beautiful... I mean, just listen to the first half of Disc 2... it's like emo that doesn't suck.

magicbus 10-20-2005 05:39 PM

Edit: Crap I didn't mean to double post. How do I delete one of them?
Go to edit post and choose delete.

I also really like the solo on "The Thin Ice". The way it kicks in makes it much more emotional for me than CN.

standard 10-20-2005 05:43 PM

I never payed much attention to this solo, it's fucking awsome. :P

YouGottaBeCrazy 10-20-2005 05:55 PM

I like the solo in "One of My Turns" a lot.

It's the automatic swear filter word for fuck. So everytime you type that in it comes out as fusty walrus.

Broken Arrow 10-20-2005 05:57 PM

Its the new swear filter word thingy/

I also like that one quite a bit. There's a lot of good solos on The Wall.

I wouldn't say it's repetitive at all, a little simple maybe, but that's where Gilmour shined. He usually had such simple (in terms of theory and all that crap) solos, yet they were so beautifully crafted and played.

You are the man, and you put it exactly as I would've, had I taken the time away from my math homework to do so.

GenuineImitation 10-20-2005 06:07 PM

Im sure Pink Floyd has several live DVD's. What is the best one to get?

standard 10-20-2005 06:09 PM

Actually..

Live at Pompei (sp?)

.. I think that's all, and then Pulse is coming out soon.

magicbus 10-20-2005 06:10 PM
Im sure Pink Floyd has several live DVD's. What is the best one to get?
I'd say Live At Pompeii, for its straight up epic awesomeness. David Gilmour In Concert is also cool, but it's only him, not the whole band. Pulse is also very cool, but it isn't coming out on DVD until December I think. Lastly, I have not seen the live dvd of The Wall, so I can't comment on it.

GenuineImitation 10-20-2005 06:13 PM

Thanks. I'll check out Live at Pomeii and Pulse when it come out. Thanks for the help.

If you buy it, I'd give you e-sex if you found a way to rip it and send it to me :-* (maybe split each track up and send each individually)

I can't find it anywhere around here :-\

e-sex is always good:naughty:

/has changed avvies more times than can count :=/

standard 10-20-2005 06:56 PM

I've never changed mine a single time. I <3 my Jimmy Page.

It might get swithched up to Gilmour.. We'll have to wait and see!
I love Rick's solo work so much. It's somewhat scary. :)
Is Wet Dream out of print? I was gonna order it a week ago, but all the ones on amazon were expensive as hell.
Lastly, I have not seen the live dvd of The Wall, so I can't comment on it.
I'm not sure. It came out in '78, and was never amazingly popular, so it may just be rare.

Pink_Zeppelin 10-21-2005 08:00 AM

yeah id say its rare cuz ive never ever seen it or heard about it anywahere

1978? I wasn't aware Wright was doing solo work so early on. I thought he hadn't started until after being kicked out.

How is it?

I wish I could get bittorent to work. It's very frustrating.

Quoted for oh so much truth. The Wall is definitely Floyd's best album for guitar solos.
/sigh

I'm not gonna try and argue it with you though, there's nowt as queer as folk.

BigTrav415 10-21-2005 06:47 PM

I went thread-diving, and found this, which I think is my first post in here. I wouldn't think so except that I can't find one before it. That search function doesn't work, so I've been clicking each page and searching for my user name :(

Schyma used to be Schyma000.

I don't remember that.

Shazzam 10-21-2005 10:08 PM

I can't wait till Pulse is released, the computer version just doesn't cut it.

BigTrav415 10-21-2005 10:55 PM

Speaking of DVDs (again) I got Echoes pts. 1 and 2 and One Of These Days video off Morpheus.

All I have to say is

Holy crap, absolutely amazing. If nothing else, seeing Nick go nuts on the drums was worth all the trouble
