Speaking of..is anyone waiting else waiting in anticipation for the the new Black Majesty album?

And yeah. i Got Angra's Aurora Consurgens and uhm. I'm disappointed in them.
Hah, that's exactly the reason I came in here. To say that it's out...or it leaked.

Either way, I'm getting it.

repcak 05-16-2007 01:50 PM

any Sonata Arctica fans here? or too few to have an own Sonata Arctica Thread here?

Just watched the love DVD for the second time and they are soooo great :D i love em... tbh. recently i love SA more than CoB ^^

Trev 05-16-2007 01:59 PM

I quite like Angra's new album.

Sonata Arctica have some pretty awesome stuff, but I'm not too impressed with their new album, not nearly enough double bass driven songs for my tastes.

ATM 05-16-2007 02:30 PM

Haha One of the guitar sales guys at work today asked me if I had heard Rhapsody on Fire. Ever since I played some folk/viking metal at work he thinks I'm big into power metal or something.

repcak 05-16-2007 02:49 PM

yeah, their new album is going to suck ... but i was speaking about all of their work, not only Unia.

shadow_stalker 05-27-2007 04:32 AM

well i am ashamed to say that i ahve soiled my ears, i listend to a Rhapsody album (triumph or agony) and i liked it, so i must have more.

are there any particular ones that outshine the rest of them?

Shattered_Future 05-27-2007 10:11 AM

Well, everything else they've done outshines Triumph Or Agony. I'm personally partial to Legendary Tales, but Symphony Of Enchanted Lands (both 1 and 2) are great.

Tyr 05-27-2007 11:04 AM

I like Symphony of Enchanted Lands 2 and Power of the Dragonflame the best.

ArcLite 05-27-2007 12:31 PM

Dawn of Victory has some good tracks, too. Triumph For My Magic Steel ftw.

I'm a huge SA fan... not so much into rhapsody though, only a couple of songs

Riva 05-27-2007 06:04 PM

Dawn Of Victory is worth it just for Holy Thunderforce.

pate 05-27-2007 08:06 PM

  @ the Holy Thunderforce accent comp

Shattered_Future 05-27-2007 08:45 PM

The video for that song is the cheesiest thing ever.

No, I take that back. The video for Rain Of A Thousand Flames is the cheesiest thing ever. Photoshopped lightning in your hands is NOT cool.

http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review_12191

Read my Unia review.

Tyler 05-27-2007 08:45 PM

Cheesier than the extended video for Unholy Warcry?

Shattered_Future 05-27-2007 08:50 PM

I can't say I've seen that one.

I've seen a live one that they did with Christopher Lee sitting on a plush chair reading and narrating though. That was up there pretty high in terms of cheese.

Dude the video has him standing awkwardly dressed in royal garb, complete with a crown and everything.

Shattered_Future 05-27-2007 09:08 PM

...

Well then...

Nah, I still have to say Rain Of A Thousand Flames is cheesier. Half naked vampire chick, photoshopped lightning, and the band fighting a giant yellow orb.

Lord Tim 05-28-2007 02:22 AM

HAHA! That was done by our old label boss (along with a guy called Neil Johnson) when we were at Metal Warriors! Those guys are working on a feature film right now, love it or hate it: http://www.metalwarriors.com

Just a heads up for you guys too, and I know there's a couple of Dungeon / LORD fans here, that we've uploaded some very rough early demos of the new LORD album if you want to check 'em out: http://www.myspace.com/lordaus (check out the Early Demo Teaser song in the music player)

It's only up 'til Midnight (Sydney Australia time) so be quick. Pretty rough stuff, but should give you an idea of what we'll be dishing up come August! Hope you like it! :)

Riva 05-28-2007 02:46 AM

I left a comment on your myspace too, but I'll here say it here as well. It sounds great, Tim. Your voice is still bloody awesome, and I can't wait for August now, definitely getting a copy of the album. :p Keep you eating steak for a bit longer, at least.

Lord Tim 05-28-2007 07:02 AM

HAHAHA! Yay! :p

Those were pretty ordinary vocals, I thought... it's actually really surprising me that people are giving me compliments for them, to be honest!

Thanx for checking it out, dude! :)

Stoic 05-28-2007 07:57 AM

Preview from the new Slough Feg album. Huge disappointment. The Glory ended with Traveller I'm afraid. People who have listened to the entire discography will understand :(

Trev 05-28-2007 08:26 AM

I didn't think it was that bad. But then again, I only have Traveller and Avatism, and I like them both.

Stoic 05-28-2007 08:31 AM
I didn't think it was that bad. But then again, I only have Traveller and Avatism, and I like them both.
Definitely go for any of the older albums then. They thing is they've been repeating themselves too much since Atavism. Traveller was a huge step forward but instead of evolving this amazing new style of theirs they started going backwards, writing shallow and forced songs :'( Judging by their standards of course. Even the worse Slough Feg album sounds better than the majority of modern power/heavy metal out there.

I keep wanting to talk about Children Of Bodom, Norther and Kalmah and people get angry if I use the Melo-Death thread. So here we are!

I just got into Norther and I enjoy their album Mirror Of Madness.

I also really like Kalmah's The Black Waltz, any other fans?

Stoic 07-22-2007 05:05 PM

Have you tried the big CoB thread yet?

Tyler 07-22-2007 05:09 PM

I'm pretty sure Stoic was just trying to help you out.
I'm pretty sure Stoic was just trying to help you out.
Ok, I just heard the same thing in the Melo-Death thread, thats why I got smart.

But really though:

Kalmah and/or Norther, any fans?

Angmar 07-22-2007 05:53 PM

Their alright, not amazing, but they do have their moments.

Shattered_Future 07-22-2007 06:14 PM

Bodom's meh (I used to like them a lot, but then I realized they only wrote about 2 or 3 songs), Norther's lame, and Kalmah's new album is very good, but the rest is meh.

Dimmu Burger 07-22-2007 06:19 PM

I really like Kalmah's vocals, cause they kindof don't belong but they still work.

Riva 07-22-2007 06:49 PM

Kalmah's alright, CoB and Norther I've never really liked. I think it's funny that you really like the vocals for the reason that they are apparently mediocre. :p

Dimmu Burger 07-22-2007 06:59 PM

Don't belong =/= mediocre.

Riva 07-22-2007 07:03 PM

Don't belong == mediocre in terms of the band's sound, actually. Daniel Heiman in Lost Horizon works. Daniel Heiman in Mithras wouldn't.

Dimmu Burger 07-22-2007 07:05 PM

While I haven't heard those bands, I can see what you're trying to say. I still like his vocals though.

Do you know of other bands that are considered Power Metal that don't have the cheesy sung vocals?

MetalOz 07-22-2007 07:14 PM

3 Inches of Blood has very different vocals but tend to get lumped in to the power metal genre... They have some streaming songs on their site:
http://www.3inchesofblood.com/

Shattered_Future 07-22-2007 07:14 PM

Kamelot. They're sung, but they're not cheesy.

Daniel Heiman in his new project doesn't work either. My God...freaking terrible.

Dimmu Burger 07-22-2007 07:18 PM

Yeah I have some 3 Inches Of Blood and Kamelot, both are pretty decent.
