I should check out Doom:VS, I've been digging the genre a lot as of late.

NemesisDivina 01-03-2008 10:11 PM

Doom:VS is extremely good. It's funeral doom, but it doesn't seem to drag like a lot of funeral doom does.

Txus 01-03-2008 10:16 PM

Meh, Draconian sucks.

Nostalgia 01-03-2008 10:21 PM

Been listening to lots of Solstice lately.

I heard a song on Last.FM that was pretty cool, but good to know :)

Txus 01-03-2008 10:26 PM

Hehe, we have pretty similar taste, Chris, but idk...I don't like them. That GothDOom thing is horrible.

Solstice FTW

ATM 01-03-2008 10:32 PM

Ooh I'm liking this band Burning Witch. Very cool.

Txus 01-03-2008 10:56 PM

Of course, they are ****ing great. One of my favorite Stephen O'Malley projects

ATM 01-03-2008 11:00 PM

What else has he done?

Tyr 01-03-2008 11:08 PM

Isn't he in Sunn O)))? I know that he was in Khanate, at least.

Txus 01-03-2008 11:21 PM

Yeah, he is known for Sunn O))) and Khanate. I also like his other projects like KTL, Ginnungagap and Lotus Eaters.

Yeah, he has been doing pretty good music tbqh

Tyr 01-03-2008 11:24 PM

I've never heard Khanate, tbh, and I haven't listened to more than a few Sunn O))) songs. Maybe I should try it again, idk.

Txus 01-03-2008 11:28 PM

Khanate is amazing, but I think you might like Ginnungagap a bit more, it's more ambient than anything else.

Tyr 01-03-2008 11:31 PM

Ambient, eh? Then off to get some Ginnungagap and maybe some Khanate I go. Recommendations?

Txus 01-03-2008 11:36 PM

Ginnungagap - Remeindre
Khanate - Things Viral

Tyr 01-03-2008 11:46 PM

Cool, I'm on it. Thanks, Mike. btw, I haven't forgotten about the Japanese sampler, I'm still working on it.

Nostalgia 01-04-2008 01:58 AM

What do you guys think of Solitude Aeturnus's Downfall? I'm gonna give that a listen now.

NemesisDivina 01-04-2008 01:58 AM

Austin, what did you think of Bongzilla?

I still need to listen to SA...

Sunn O))) are great - i've seen them live 2 years ago.

but if you like drone get Nadja... tbh. after listening to Nadja i was thinking for a moment that Sunn O))) sucks :p

C.O.A. 01-04-2008 02:50 AM

Does anybody here like Bongripper?

Shattered_Future 01-04-2008 07:51 AM

I still have yet to get past part 2 of Hippie Killer, but I liked what I heard so far.

ATM 01-04-2008 09:32 AM

Bongripper are cool. I've got 2 albums on my computer at my apartment.

Nadja puts most drone bands to shame.

repcak 01-04-2008 10:19 AM

yeah, my thoughts too :)

any similar great bands in those kind of genre? boris? khanate?

Nadja!

Like Nadja?
hat's really difficult to comeby.
Boris have such an extensive discography, that it's hard to pinpointthem on anything. But no real Nadjalke moments.
Boris is great though, I'll be seeing them in april.
Khanate is great too, but also nothing like Nadja.
As much as Nadja is ambient, Khanate are hair raising, gross sounding and nasty.
Great music though. :p

For Nadja like bands, pfff.
Well The Angelic Process comes near, but it has a more metal edge.
You could try Marzuraan, pretty good stuff, but the production lacks a bit, music is great though.
It's more like drone with black metal influences (mainly the vocals)
A bit like the rough parts in Radiance Of Shadows (the song by Nadja)

Unless you already worship Into the Depths of Sorrow, Beyond the Crimson Horizon, Through the Darkest Hour, and Alone, you should pass on it.

Phototropic 01-04-2008 12:03 PM
Yeah, the first track is amazing. The second one, not so much.
amen, the first track is such a ripper, gotta burn it onto CD so i can blast it on home stereo aye :)

NemesisDivina 01-04-2008 01:03 PM

...I just downloaded Witchcult Today...

gmoneyguy 01-04-2008 01:13 PM

Did I not say it was good?

This Nadja talk got me in a Nadja mood.

NemesisDivina 01-04-2008 01:14 PM

...but I didn't know it would be THIS good.

I couldn't stop smiling for the first five minutes of the title track

EDIT: Petey, I think you've thoroughly injected a heavy dose of Nadja into this forum.
