Meh, I'm in an original band where I'm just carving out my own tone for it, so I can do whatever I want. The only time I've had to use my rig recently for anything other than that was when I played at a friend's wedding. But I ended up just using my regular overdriven tone for that too. Sounds stupid, but it worked well. You can always wind the drive control back on dirty amps too :)

gaslight 10-09-2009 03:17 PM

Wedding gigs are class, I've never gotten to do one :(.

I'm gonna look to get on that scene next year.

fatbandit 10-09-2009 03:20 PM

If this originals band ever kicks the can, then I'd want to be in another originals band. But I think in the meantime I'd love to do a wedding band for a year or two and quit my real job for a bit, because originals can be really hard work. Turning up, playing some covers and leaving £100 richer twice a week would be well appreciated for a while.

gaslight 10-09-2009 03:37 PM

Nothing beats getting paid for your skills now and then. I've finally gotten to making decent money from my music skills teaching but I want to add some regular paid performing to that next, which shouldn't be too tricky provided I make a big of effort to get on it. My original bands are fun but it just isn't a realistic avenue for income.

fatbandit 10-09-2009 03:41 PM

It's a hard grind driving miles for a gig to play to a handful of people and possibly making petrol money back...

Unless you're irishslappop who by all (his) accounts seems to be in an incredibly popular unsigned band.

gaslight 10-09-2009 03:44 PM

You mean gatsu? Yet to hear any recordings of that.

But ah well. Not to be too Hank Hill, but in the case of original music, meeting your own standards is the highest pay of all. Hard work is it's own reward. I'm proud as hell of my old band's EP and my other band's album is shaping up really nice so I'm stoked about that. Really looking forward to sharing with you guys once I sort out the release for the EP.

Propane.

fatbandit 10-09-2009 03:51 PM

Yeah. I want evidence of it to be honest. I'm dubious :p

I'm proud of stuff we do, I just like other people to like it too. There's nothing worse than pouring your heart into an EP and then releasing it to general apathy :(

We're putting out our debut album next year though and I'm super stoked about it. You'd all best buy it! :p

gaslight 10-09-2009 04:01 PM

Trade you it for my band's album which will probably come out next year too :p.

FunkMetalBass 10-09-2009 04:03 PM

We have our first show next Saturday, so I'm pretty stoked for that. The venue is small, but I heard that they record video of all the bands, so if they do, I'll post our show.

We're going to cover "I'm So Sick" by Flyleaf, which should be interesting seeing as we just decided to do it this morning and have a week to learn and perfect it, as well as getting the band to learn another one of our long originals.

eGad.

Spaceman Spiff 10-09-2009 04:06 PM

I just worked a week of night shifts, midnight to 8AM, but they were giving me a lot of anxiety so my boss is moving me. Back on day shifts starting next week.

I don't know that song or band, but, with my band, we usually get our covers down after only a couple of runs through.

Good luck with the show. How much original material do you have? How long of a set do you get/have?

fatbandit 10-09-2009 04:09 PM

night shifts suck. any shift which messes with my normal body clock ****s me up big time. I was working 3am - 1pm shifts a while ago and getting up that early was just too much for my body to take. I'd get home and go straight to sleep, and wake up in time for the next day of work :(

45 min worth of material back2back, and an hour set. I think with our cover, we can stretch it to an hour. If not, I've got a bunch of acoustic cover songs in my arsenal that I can pull out.

Wow. Starting at 3AM is even more fucked. My body isn't reacting well to doing this at all, so I'm incredibly happy that I can get back to a normal schedule again.

FunkMetalBass 10-09-2009 04:35 PM

I worked night shifts for a little while. It sucked. Working at 8am isn't exactly my favorite either.

gaslight 10-09-2009 04:41 PM

At the moment I work two jobs and neither require me to be awake before midday.

It's the little blessings that count.

Do you like Pokemon? 'Cause I'd love to get a pik-at-chu. ;)

gaslight 10-09-2009 04:55 PM

8AM isn't so bad, I've found. Especially when you work an 8 hour shift because you at least still get the evening and night to yourself to do what you want. 9 or 10 would definitely be better, but I don't mind it.

funkyhoney 10-10-2009 08:00 PM

Sorry fatbandit, I don't really.

funkyhoney 10-11-2009 06:28 AM

I blame The Man, always walking over us!

BenJammin 10-11-2009 08:33 AM

Yawn.

Another day, another hangover.

funkyhoney 10-11-2009 08:49 AM

I think I might get that haircut I've been talking about today.

karmapavementplan 10-11-2009 10:42 AM

Next track my band is writing is in the tuning of f#,f#,f#,f#,e,b.

Bye bye theory, hello validating my use of fret numbers as opposed to learning the names of all the notes.

Why would you tune like that?

Mr. Pickle 10-11-2009 01:24 PM

to be cool

Spaceman Spiff 10-11-2009 01:38 PM

Makes sense.

BenJammin 10-11-2009 01:39 PM

I'm cooking a roast. I can't wait to eat it.

Cooking gives me a sense of accomplishment sometimes.

Jimbobntnr 10-11-2009 01:40 PM

WTB a website that doesn't say something about Ben's ****ing roast.
