You have to be a pretty big faggot to get depressed by Reverend Bizarre and Candlemass.
Om aren't depressing, at least not to me.
Candlemass definitely can be at times, ftlog listen to Marche Funebre. Even though they didn't write it the whole Nightfall album has that "funeral" feel to it. Reverend Bizarre definitely aren't upbeat by any means either. lol Justin I don't mean depressing as in xsuicidalx want to kill yourself or something, they're just not very happy sounding bands. I mean I know they're not Nortt or Ahab or something like that but they're both DOOM metal bands. |

Om aren't really doom metal based on that album and it isnt really that good anyways. Of course Candlemass and Reverend Bizarre aren't upbeat, it's ****ing doom metal. There's a difference between being "depressing" and being "doomy". |
true true. that album is good, although mostly the first song. but they are stoner which was pretty much the only reason I mentioned them in the first place.

My name's Justin too. But yea, I didn't really mean like upbeat or happy sounding doom, I just didn't want... I dunno. I think you guys know what I mean though. Thanks. |
You're name can't be Justin, too. I'm the only Justin 'round these parts.
Nobody actually calls me Justin in real life though. Just Sponer or Spohn.
****, you're from PA too? We must be twins, LOL.

Lancaster? Heh, I'm in Berks. Which is like right next to Lancaster. Kinda. And I do actually have a twin brother. Ha. Anyways, is Candlemass's first album a good one to start with? Cause that's the one I'm downloading right now. :smash: |
Candlemass' first album is the perfect place to start.
If you're looking for doom metal that's not "depressing" (whatever the **** that means) then I wouldn't bother with Epicus Doomicus Metallicus. Johan has the most naturally depressing vocals on that album, despite the lyrical themes.
Get Nightfall, it's the best Candlemass and is the best album in metal. |
I agree that Nightfall is a better place to start but Epicus is still better than Swallow the ****ing Sun
you started right where I did. I came in here after a few weeks of listening to Dopethrone. Get Conference of the Birds by Om.
Those two bands can be a little depressing.
RB isn't really depressing. |
I mean its depressing compared to stuff like Sabbath's upbeat style of doom, like the song After Forever. I swear to god the riff at 1:55 is one of the heaviest out there.
Sabbath's upbeat style of doom?
hahaha.
rofl i think he means up-tempo
d00m sucks! unless it is norwegian death metal with a doom flavor i dont wanna hear it!
Damn right. That album is so epic. |
Doomshine is an awesome band name. Maybe I'll look into them once I've checked out the new High on Fire album, Death Is This Communion. They were in this month's Total Guitar, I was well impressed.
I'm sessioning Isis' In the Absence of Truth. What an awesome album to chill to. |
Total Guitar Knows Doom
lol total guitar knows total doom
Not a fan of High on Fire...

if you're a troll **** off but if you're serious then i'm going to have to ask you to namedrop because i can't think of any bands like that off the top of my head. |
Sponer, try some of the bands like Weedeater, Bongzilla, Graves at Sea, Zoroaster
Weedeater lmao what a classic band name.
Zoroaster is really, really freakin' good. So damn fuzzy. I don't like how the guitar and bass are mixed in separate speakers though...
