I looked at PoT, and I was like "fuck dat shit" lmao

Jude 11-14-2005 01:15 PM

Just so you know, you aren't going to get a very good response to a death metal song as a school talent show. People are probably going to cover their ears, boo you, maybe walk out. But whatever you want.

vashts80 11-14-2005 01:41 PM

They can't walk out, we're still in school. And the reception will be fine, I'm a legend in my school for some reason. I did Anesthesia last year, and that's definitely not ear pleasing, but I got an ovation for it heh

Shattered_Future 11-14-2005 01:59 PM
Yay....I can't wait for Nevermore tonight!!

Already got my Opeth dose a month ago or so, now it's time for my Nevermore.
Bastard.

vashtsinsertnumbershere, good luck to ya. :thumb:

Always good to get some good music out to the masses, whether they boo you or not.

vashts80 11-14-2005 02:17 PM

Yeah, well I'm one of those people that likes to sing at lunch time. Loudly.

I growl Opeth at lunch all the time. People hear it. Some people accept it. Others laugh or whatever. I don't care, it never mattered to me because it's my "weapon of choice," so to speak.

Perdition 11-14-2005 02:18 PM

I know this may sound dumb but I thought I would ask it here since its the thread title, what does look your last upon the sun mean? It isnt lyrics is it? I saw it on the back of an opeth shirt and was wondering where it is from.

I don't think they're lyrics. It's just a random line they thought would be cool to slap on the back of a shirt. I wondered about that too because it's on the back of my Deliverance t-shirt.

vashts80 11-14-2005 02:30 PM

Growling isn't hard to do, actually. You open your jaw all the way (so your throat can't close up) and you push the air with your stomach, as if you were singing, but lower and slightly gritty

Spinal Pap 11-14-2005 02:34 PM

I would try right now but I have some family over and they'd probably think I'd gone insane. Thanks for the tips though. I'll try later.

Shattered_Future 11-14-2005 02:36 PM

It's fun growling. People stare at you like you're possessed.

JamJar 11-14-2005 03:01 PM

Can anyone confirm with me whether the Opeth gig at Rock City on the 27th is a 14+ or an 18+

If it's an 18+ then boy I'm fvcking pissed :)

raz0r 11-14-2005 03:41 PM

I just went to buy tickets for the opeth concert in Utrecht, on the 5th november, and it's sold out. And the annoying thing is, that there were tickets left yesterday!

I can't make the next gig, on the 22nd either, because the guy i'm going with is on holiday!

The one I wanted to go to was 18+.

I was depressed for a week after I found that out. :upset:

You have my sympathies. Just goes to show you, Ticketmaster is God.

Shattered_Future 11-14-2005 03:59 PM

Ticketmaster is evil, are you joking?

It didn't tell me Dragonforce was playing THEIR ONLY US SHOW in my area...I found out from their website, only to find out that tickets sold out the day they went up.

They DID have Sonata Arctica tickets though. :D

Kage 11-14-2005 04:01 PM

Ticketmaster is good, but with some unnecessary evils. Like paying half the cost of the actual ticket in service fees.

Toaster 11-14-2005 04:01 PM

I've always had luck with them.. next time check the band website for tour dates yes? :p

Hells Bells 11-14-2005 05:17 PM
I finally decided on The Philosopher or Flesh and the Power it Holds (both Death songs), heh. I'll probably do Philosopher because it's shorter and won't hurt my hand as much.

I would do a song like In My Time of Need, but I can't cleanly sing. At all. I'm a baritone or a bass, I dunno, but my clean singing is horrible. I can barely sing the clean parts in Deliverance right :P

Oh well, regardless I wanna do DM. I got a long night, tonight, heh
Good choice :thumb: I'm learning Spirit Crusher on my brand new bass, and the intro is starting to sound decent :p

Best of luck with your talent show though....heh, death metal in a school

Shattered_Future 11-14-2005 05:20 PM

Mmmm...brand new bass. :p

What kind?

Kage is right...Ticketmaster charges WAY too much for services. A 35 dollar ticket had 10 bucks extra for charges.

Yeah, no kidding. Percentage-wise, it's even worse on less expensive tickets, because you end up literally paying half or more of the actual ticket cost in extra chrages. For my Opeth ticket, which was $15, I paid $8 in service fees.

Paying $23 beats paying £23 for your Opeth ticket tough, but still I get to see Opeth. 30th Nov., \m/

 yeah I've had that happen to me several times. One time I was at a stop light growling along with By The Pain I See In Others, and the older people in the car next to me were staring at me like I was the anti-christ.

I'd rather have the security of knowing I'll get in online than hope to get lucky buying it elsewhere. If another online ticket service is less expensive, I'd be happy to know about it.

Darkness 11-14-2005 06:33 PM

Yeah I don't get it, I'll casually be walking through the hall in school (which is Catholic) with my head phones on, and I'll just growl out "oooooo the lepers coiled neath the trees..." and I'll get all these weird looks. :upset:

Toaster 11-14-2005 06:40 PM

It's really funny trying to get people at school to sing along with "my kind of music". Ordinary people trying to growl = hilarious. :thumb:

I wish I knew how to growl, not because I'd ever want to put it in a song of mine, but just because it would be an awesome party trick, especially late when everyone's wasted.

I gave blood last year, I'm never doing it again. I got really sick and messed up, probably because I'm so skinny.

Darkness 11-14-2005 07:06 PM

Me and one of my good friends use to always talk in a growly kind of voice as really young kids, we thought it was super funny. Untill the past 2 years, I've realised what an awesome vocal style it can be. :D

Killtacular 11-14-2005 07:49 PM

That did play a slight role, but I would've given even if I didn't get out of class.

I only weigh 125, and I was fine. There were some people that weighed 160+ and passed out.

Deth 11-14-2005 07:55 PM

I weigh 125 too. Maybe it's my height? If I were 5 feet and weighed that maybe I would have been fine, but I'm 5 foot 8. I don't know how it works...but I was a mess.
