Great list there Orb.
The Unicorns. I listened to Who Will Cut... 4 times yesterday, because it was the only thing I had.

"You aaareee doin' it wrong"
*Boo dee do doo do*
Today was mainly Jimmy Eat World and Cryptopsy, but I also listened to My Bloody Valentine, The Smashing Pumpkins and The Flaming Lips in the car today. As well as this, I got some cds. My copy of Takk came in the mail and I got the Fight Test EP by The Flaming Lips for 4.95 at a bookshop where I had coffee with my mum and some relatives today.

No I write the songs.

That's a great album. Curtis Mayfield is awesome. Move On Up is one of my favourite songs ever. You should check out his albums Superfly and Roots if you haven't done so already.

Never heard of 'em. I'll get to it, thanks.

They're not really a "punk" band like Against Me but they kind of remind me of a lukewarm version of AM's gusto with some of Calexico style acoustics, with gloomy and lo-fi bits.

Oh yeah, they're also a pre-Black Mountain band

I'm listening to that fIREHOSE album right now, too. Weird.
It's a very tight album.

I can't get over Mike Watt's bass playing, its so inventive. I have a chance to see him play on Sunday but I can't go :(.

Sounds good, Black Mountain are great (as are Pink Mountaintops, and i think they are pretty much the same guy(s). Hmm..

Anyway, i'm downloading an album called Death to False Metal on soulseek, which is apparently by Jerk With a Bomb. So i'll be listening to that soon.

So far today i've listened to Pere Ubu's The Modern Dance, which is the first time i've ever listened to them. It was awesome.

Zappa 09-15-2005 09:59 AM

The Rolling Stones.

I realized that I never really listened to them, and I also found that their albums are INCREDIBLY easy to find on soulseek. So I got 6 of them, and so far I've dug on Let it Bleed. I just started playing Beggar's Banquet, and "Sympathy For the Devil" must be one of the best rock songs ever written.

welcome to the 20th century hurrrrr

No really, I think their best songs are the ones that you don't hear thousands of times on the radio, like what's on Exile on Main St. But I guess that's a given with classic rock bands.

asdf 09-15-2005 04:17 PM

I guess you could save I've been diggin Slint - tweez, Unicorns - who will cut our hair when we're gone?, Modest mouse - This is a long drive for someone with nothing to think about, and Sigur Ros - Takk, because those are the CD's I just bought.

Ornery Cephalopod 09-15-2005 04:36 PM

Black Heart Procession - Amore del Tropico

I finally got over my slight dislike of the singer and gave it a proper full listen. The singer is no longer an issue. Dig+.

And some old digs I'm still diggin' and/or re-diggin':

Clutch
Orange Goblin
Dungen
Olivia Tremor Control
Black Heart Procession - Amore del Tropico
Awesome. Overall I wouldn't want to listen to it often but I keep coming back for "Tropics of Love" and "Broken World".

It's hard to listen to Mu's Afro Finger & Gel but/because it's wild as. Other than that it's just some Maudlin of the Well and Deltron 3030

asdf 09-15-2005 04:46 PM

I've recently been getting back into the residents.

The commercial album is officially one of my favorite albums of all time. It's amazing. I can't believe I've ignored it for 3 years or so.

With the exception of the jokey r&b stuff and skits, The Minstrel Show is **** good. Not as good as The Listening, but good.
