Case in point, long distance relationship:
Each party is leading separate lives but are still connected by their love for one another. Enter the distance factor. Becasue of the distance spearating the two, it becomes neccessary for each to have their own life, as a joined life is not possible. Thus, because each lives a separate life each begins to change, things are no longer done together and slowly each person evolves differently. What this means is that when one of the parties tries to find out what happens in the others life, the individual whose life is being enquired into feels an invasion of privacy has occured and reacts in an appropriate manner. I.e. They shut the other person out and then enters the all time classic line, "You are smothering me". So what is the solution? To explain to the other party that you are not trying to pry, but rather are interested in what goes on. Or To back off and wait for them to come to you? Either way, the process is unsatisfactory. It becomes a struggle for independance and the bond of the relationship. What needs to occur is a "middle ground" a point that is reached where the separate lives are shared, but not "invaded" so to speak. Obviosly concern is shown by each party from time to time which can be once again misconstruid as an attempt to control the other. Most often this is not the case, but again concern for the others wellbeing. |

I suppose the root cause of the problem is one person in the relationship feeling unapprciated. I.e. Me at the moment. <<<<<<<Does not enjoy having his cheese grated or battery pissed on EDIT: So what is the teenage theory of long distance relationship? |

EDIT: eg. "ohh this guy on myspace is hawt, im in love lol". 3 months later she's either dead or horribly depressed |

There are no secrets, nothing. No walls up, no hiding things... completely honest and open. i actually had that with my ex. It gets alot of the bull**** out of the way and makes your relationship alot stronger, faster. -sixner |
aww thats **** man..
the theory? the theory is that such a thing can actually work in the long term.
It can work, but as a result of distance and the people involved not being able to share a life together, it makes it difficult. Two people sharinga common bond forced, in order to survive, to live separate lives and growing accustomed to that. Thus the identity of each party is no longer that they are one part of a whole but rather an and the individual they were before. Thus the relationship suffers in that each party reverts back to who they were before and thus the foundation of the relationship has to be built up once more. In short it is a tightrope that must be crossed carefully and cautiously, without hast and disregard for both parties involved. |
