How can you say that? Of course, Opeth has some of the most brilliant acoustic songs, but how can you listen to April Ethereal, When, Master's Apprentices, Serenity painted Death, White Cluster, The Moor, The Night and the Silent Water, Karma, Godhead's Lament, Black Rose Immortal, Forest of October, Reverie/Harlequin Forest, Bleak and say that they should stop making (death) metal? I hope they continue making metal for a long time, hopefully release some more brutal stuff than GHOST REVERIES, and just go on making the music they always made.
I totally agree with you even though their acoustic songs are beatiful but their heavy stuff are masterpieces, and my favorite Opeth song is a heavy one (Reverie/Harlequin Forest) so they should contienue with the heavy stuff cause they really know how to do it. |
and my favorite Opeth song is a heavy one (Reverie/Harlequin Forest)
 my favorite song right now aswell. As far as Opeth not doing metal anymore....that would be pretty sad since they do it better than all the bands out there today (IMO)

All the way, brothers. They really do it better than any band... My fave band ever.

They still do it better than most bands today, but their new album doesn't live up to the glory of their previous releases. |
true. It's not a bad album at all. It's just too different, than I would like it. It needs a lot more growling, IMO.

It's not a BAD album but they certainly could have done better. |
Yes, although it contains some coooool slow songs, like isolation years and Hours of Wealth...once again he proved that he has the best voice in metal. In my opinion of course...

Akerfeldt definetly has the best voice in metal. Hands down. |

Quoted for truth. |

I don't like the keyboards. |
I don't like the keyboards.
Me neither. But if they somehow used them the right way, it would add to their songs. They just didn't utilize them on GR. |

I do, they're quite well done. |

Pear (sp?) is really good, and I enjoy most of his stuff on the album, but some parts a bit over done, he needs to do more stuff like Steven Wilson was doing. |
I don't like the keyboards.
IMO the keyboards blend really well with them, for example in the Intro of Beneath The Mire....me likes it. :p |
I didn't think I'd like the new Opeth album, but I think its as completely and totally listenable as everything else they've done. They're one of the few bands I still just listen to, like put the album on the stero, turn off the lights and everything else, and just listen.

I loooovvvveeee that intro. |
Opeth - First Dates On Tour Cancelled Due To Visa Issues
Sweden's OPETH have posted the following message on their official website:
"It is with regret that the first couple of dates on the OPETH US tour will have to be postponed due to a delay in getting the bands work visas through, at this stage one can 100 % confirm that the Mesa and Los Angeles dates will not happen, we are working to save the San Francisco date and will almost certainly start the tour in Portland. We are working on rescheduling the postponed dates. More news soon!" Affected dates are as follows: October 9 - Phoenix, AZ @ Marquee Theatre October 10 - West Hollywood, CA @ House of Blues October 11 - San Francisco, CA @ The Fillmore :upset: |
They are still playin in NY....:).

keyboards are nice, i just hope they dont over use them like children of bodom or anything like that.
It's not a BAD album but they certainly could have done better.
i think its a great album, the last 3 songs are truly amazing. i like listen to hours of wealth, with 6 mins of clean vocals and guitar then right after that the great conjuration comes on and like 3 mins into that song the brutal vocals come back in, and the first growl he makes in this song is so powerful. |

They add a lot to the album. I don't know if permanently adding a keyboard player was the best idea, since that obliges them to ALWAYS use keyboards. But we'll see. I don't think Hours of Wealth is that great, but Grand Conjuration is definitely one of the better and more powerful songs on the album and Isolation Years is great. |

It's different I guess, It's not terrible, I was just expecting something different for keyboards. |
I liked the keyboards though I'd be surprised if they decided to make keys overly prominent here on in. The middle of the album is so much better for having keys and is imo the highlight of GR.

Anybody else gonna go see Opeth and Nevermore at the Webster Theater in NYC (That's New York City for you plebes out there ;)) on Nov. 3rd? I just got my ticket, and I'm pumped. If anybody else is going to the NYC show tell me, it'd be cool to meet up with fellow fans (seeing as not a single Opeth fan goes to my college :( ).
The other New York show they're playing is in Latham. I think that's awesome, since I grew up there from kindergarten to 3rd grade. |
Does anyone know the concept behind Ghost Reveries? Their seems to be reacurring topics in most the songs but i can't figure it out. any help will be thankful

The album tries so hard to be a concept album, but fails. It's definately not a concept album, in my opinion. Especially when compared to other works of Opeth. Seriously, one can't compare Ghost Reveries to any concept album and think ''this is deep''. The song title Beneath The Mire appears in the lyrics on The Baying Of The Hounds....not to mention the words ''baying'' and ''hounds'' also appear in the song Reverie/Harlequin Forest. Brilliant... :upset: |
^The concept to this album is my favorite aspect of it, the lyrics are really cool. It definatly has my favorite Opeth concept. Somebody came up with a detailed discription of what it could meen, and I thought it was awesome.
|
Thanks for your replies to my question. The only thing that comes to mind as a concept is someone running from a group of people maybe a prisoner trying to escape or something( baying of the hounds) and then they get captured(hours of wealth) but its probly wrong. just a thought
|
Something about how a childs mother gets possessed by a demon or a ghost, and eventually destroys her and attempts to take him over. But he rejects it, but eventually gives in (the grand conjuration) then isolates himself from the rest of the world (isolation years) and someone sends him a letter asking him to return, or something like that..
|
wow Darkness Of Greed, thats a great idea for the concept.(no sarcasm) You'd think that i would have figured some of that out with the lyrics "Ghost of mother" etc.
