great! one more anathema fanboy :thumb:
get serenades - its my fav album by them from their doom-death time. |
Epicurean Mass is one of my favorite doom albums.
Yes. I can't believe that they've gone from that album to complete inactivity. They made such an impact (rightly so) but still no follow up. If they were still going they'd be the best US doom band. |
I absolutely LOVE My Dying Bride.
My fav songs of theres would be: Black Heart Romance For my fallen angel for you return to the beautiful check them out, it's allllll good!
I have their whole discography except for the live album. For You is so absorbing and relaxing, yet the awesome groovey doom riffs don't seem out of place. I still have yet to hear the re-recording of Return Of The Beautiful. Stupid guy I got The Dreadful Hours off didn't have it. My favourite songs are All Swept Away Sear Me The Cry Of Mankind The Dreadful Hours The Snow In My Hand Your River The Bitterness And The Bereavement I like their first two records better than the rest. As The Flower Withers was my first Doom album, and I didn't know it had growling (I had only heard tracks from Like Gods Of The Sun), it scared the life out of me! |
Looks like this thread has gone the same way as all the others
Listen to Bloodfarmers, Revelation and Count Raven. Now! |
i've heard people call Type O Negative doom but i do not agree at all they are just goth or somthing
|
i will call them goth-(doom)-metal
|
I'm glad this thread got bumped. I love doom/gothic but I really don't have much.
|
what do you have? maybe i can recommend you some bands ...
|
I really love calm atmospheric interludes in funeral doom and after that bonecrushing riffs and gutterall growling.
/Slowly increases funeral dooom collection |
what do you have? maybe i can recommend you some bands ...
I have My Dying Bride, Katatonia, Anathema, Virgin Black, and Candlemass. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. :thumb: |

Doomsword is some terrific doom with slight, very slight folk/viking tendencies. |
Doomsword is some terrific doom with slight, very slight folk/viking tendencies.
If it comes from BlackWizard, of course it has folk/viking influence! Thanks, though. I'll see what I can dig up by them. |

Thanks, though. I'll see what I can dig up by them.
Sins Of Thy Beloved is also some terrific doom (very gothy, but very doomy as well so I feel they can be talked about in this thread) WITHOUT my obligatory folk/viking leanings. They do use alot of violins though... |

MDB, Katatonia and Anathema are my fav doom bands :thumb: check out: Novembre (especially Dreams D'Azur) Lacrimas Profundere (Burning: A Wish), their last "doom" record, afterwards they got gothic... well the whole album is gothic-doom but its fantastic and for gothic i would recommend: Sentenced !!!! (especially "The Funeral album") Killing Joke - Night Time (they are gothic rock) |

Im enjoying it alot.
Awesome, glad you like them. They are one of my favorites. Very depressing and sorrow filled music. Incredibly emotional and powerful. Empyrium and them are two of my favorites of that sort of thing. |
Yea, I like the classical instruments used. It fits pretty well.
|
What other albums by Lacrimas Profunde should I pick up beside the one sent out on the Daily Upload?
|

Their other good CD is Memorandum. It's the most Anathema doom-like of the lot. The earlier albums are them finding their sound, and the later albums after Burning are them moving in a completely different direction. Two bands that sadly never get mentioned enough in this genre: Grey skies fallen Swallow the sun I'll upload some of both this week. |
Grey Skies Fallen requested my friendship on myspace.
|
My girlfriend knows Rick Habeeb of Grey skies. That was sort of a shock to me because he sent her tickets to Death in the Forest fest. It's way too far for us to go but nonetheless.
|
I never thought they were big, I thought they where just a local band on myspace trying to spread their name.
|
Never heard doom.
Might dl some Candlemass. |
IMO, I dont really like Candlemass that much. Im not trying to discourage you from checking it out. I just thought id get my thoughts out.

I like them quite a bit. They have some very good stuff on Epicus Doomicus Metallus. Other than that cd, though, I haven't really explored their discography. |
Epic Doom Metal:p
Maybe i should add a us to everything that already sounds cool. |

I think they're pretty good. A Doom/Death band from Finland. Very good vocalst, I love his deep growls. I've ordered Ghost Of Loss a while back, the special edition, with a dvd with a clip and some live material, it's good stuff, I can recommend it to fans of doom/death. I love the lyrics to descending Winter, not all that special but they fit very well with the feel of the music: Descending winters for all lands, All hope is gone, in his hands. out from the north, in to the south, winter turned his frozen mouth |
Swallow the Sun ... i was sure i had an album by them on my computer or somewhere... but it seems i don't
