I'm surprised that Paul didn't know how to play bass when he joined the band...I think he's bass lines are pretty cool.

guns_of_brixton 03-01-2005 06:01 PM

I play guitar and Paul inspired me to play bass as well. Paul= awesome

SlappedByTheClash 03-01-2005 06:01 PM
Yea, I think some Rancid song got number 1. And he was an idiot because

the Guns of Brixton> Magnificent 7> Police and Theives> London Calling> every other Punk song.
The Stranglers got #2, and the song was 3 f'ucking notes.

And they had Anarchy In The UK on there, which I learned to play on bass when I was seven.

WorryRocker921 03-01-2005 06:02 PM

I haven't been playing bass for to long...I want to convince my band to cover "should i stay or should I go" but they don't seem to interested.....I love playing that song.

Yea, bassists with five times more talent that him can't come up with basslines half as good as Paul's.

I could play it on guitar when I was eleven. And you can hardly hear the bass in that song.

Note: Like the bassist in Pink FLoyd, who for all of his "genius" can't write a bassline that extends beyond backing root notes.

I hate how classic rock is lorded over Punk, claiming they have more musical ability, but in reality they never use it except to create boring 132142 minute long "jams" that have no relevance in furthering the progress of music.

F'ucking homos.

WorryRocker921 03-01-2005 06:08 PM

Playing the root notes gets boring geez. Only good bassists can come up with funky stuff.

Thats why I suck!

I couldn't have said it better myself :thumb:. Classic rock bands might have been much better musicians than punk bands, but their music isn't nearly as rellevant.
Note: Like Pink FLoyd, who for all of their "genius" can't write a song that extends beyond abstract psuedo-spiritual lyrics and boring backing stuff, then throw in the occasional good solo.
I do like Bicycle though, but that was with their old singer, who was literally insane.

SlappedByTheClash 03-01-2005 06:13 PM

The only bassist that I really can stand from a "Classic Rock Band" was JPJ, because the line to Ramble On is f'ucking insane.(He played that crazy line with one finger!)

But other than that, Dog poo>Led Zeppelin

TheNowhereman42 03-01-2005 06:16 PM

nah, I love the Zep

WorryRocker921 03-01-2005 06:17 PM

Wow. Listening to London Calling right now. I wanna get up and grab my bass and play it but I'm to lazy to take it out of the bag....

I also like What is and What Should Never be.

Paul brought a lot of the reggae influence to the band. When he wrote Guns Of Brixton he wanted it to be a punk song but he wasn't good enough to make it sound how he wanted so it came out more reggae.

TheNowhereman42 03-01-2005 06:32 PM

The Specials tried to write Reggae songs but it was too hard, so they wrote ska instead.

thank god for lack of talent eh boys?

CombatRock 03-01-2005 07:03 PM

i havnt listen to much of the speicals..exept that song they worked with the clash on

TheNowhereman42 03-01-2005 07:09 PM

whaaaaaaaaaaaaa? which one was that?

CombatRock 03-01-2005 07:10 PM

rudy ska

sketchyjoe 03-01-2005 07:22 PM

That song is okay.

Forest_Fire 03-01-2005 07:40 PM

3/4 of the specials songs you can name are probably covers.

that makes me sad, but they're still amazing

sketchyjoe 03-01-2005 07:44 PM

Little Bitch
Ghost Town
A Message To You Rudy
Free Nelson Mandela
Too Much Too Young
Blank Expression
Too Hot

I make that 3/7.

Forest_Fire 03-01-2005 07:47 PM

:(

::mumbles incoherently::

but the point was, i remember seeing a post in this forum a whilke back with all the specials covers, and it was a lot. most of the songs i liked were covers

TheNowhereman42 03-01-2005 07:48 PM

CombatRock 03-01-2005 08:15 PM

SlappedByTheClash 03-01-2005 08:16 PM

Yes, they did.

And I think the world stopped and cheered when they finished their song.

Forest_Fire 03-01-2005 08:18 PM

ive never heard it. :(

i feel so ashamed

guns_of_brixton 03-01-2005 08:21 PM

CombatRock 03-01-2005 08:28 PM

guns_of_brixton 03-01-2005 08:36 PM

everyone dies.

SlappedByTheClash 03-01-2005 08:43 PM

But Redemption Song singers die early deaths.

And it saddens me, for I have covered that song many a time. :upset:

CombatRock 03-01-2005 08:47 PM

RIP steve

AIRIC 03-01-2005 08:48 PM
