G'day Trea and Aes (who's real name I don't know, is it Chris?).
How y'all doing in here? I walked around some shops in the city today. I want my own professionall quality studio :(. Can someone tell me in Australia dollars what it would cost to have your own pro-quality studio, seperate from your house and everything like that? I'm not under the impression that I'm going to go out and build one, just curious about it. |
C'mon, who doesn't?
Sorry man, I've got no idea. It'd probably depend on how indepth you went, where you were located (in terms of rent/property costs), yada yada. Like the price of say a guitar or a house, I'd imagine it'd vary quite a lot. But as I said, I don't have a clue in that area :(. EDIT: (from another thread)
Trig your CAT AVATAR is covered!!! :upset:
Huh? |
You may have to reupload your avatar after the server problem, if you haven't already.
|
Ah, right.
I'm going good, yourself? What else have you been up to besides dreaming of a studio? |
I'm also good.
My first semester at AIM is finishing so I've had exams and have one left, otherwise I've been sitting around doing nothing and looking at more pedals/recording gear. Dreaming of a studio takes up most of my abstract thinking time. For realistic things though, I am looking for an affordable but good quality small mixer to make my home recordings a bit better for guitar/bass. I'm getting a new phone this weekend I think. That's about all really. You? |
Sounds good. Man, I'd love to be at a music school/doing a music course.
As I said just a bit before, work experience. Now it's holidays for me so I'm going to do some surfing (if I can manage to get to the beach), pig out on guitar/trombone, exercise, and general holidayish stuffing around. Got much planned for the holidays (if you get much of one)? |
You'll probably do a music course one day right? Or are you going to do the technology stuff you're doing at the moment? Both good choices.
I get holidays at the moment effectively and from the start of July officially for that month. I'm hoping to do lots of playing and recording if I can get a little mixer or something similar to help out. I really should exercise, I've been meaning to, but it never happens. |

As for building your own studio. You could spend anywhere from the thousands to the hundreds of thousands. Something like a Bluescope Steel shed, with a bit of sound proofing and a heap of Behringer gear would do the job for a little home studio. |
When you say hundreds of thousands, would it be under the half-a-million mark?
|
I know you said pro studio, and that you were just interested, but while we're on the topic...
If anyone's interested and hasn't seen it: http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=323789 <- Ken's make your own studio guide. |
Ok the tar is back
|
It's okay everyone, the cat's back, we can all relax.

Yeah, I'm aiming to. Music is more what I want to do, but web design kind of work would be sweet too. Are you going for any specific kind of job (obviously something musically based due to you being at AIM, but... teaching, performance, sound tech...)? |
I've almost left mx
but how will i live without you to guide/insult me?
You must be more like the tree and less like the pansy my child.
NOOOOOOOO
/cue the slow-mo running scene. |
Heh.
/feels left out as is not allowed to put a pic in that guitar album thread. /has over-protective parents |
Aw :(. Don't worry :).
What is everyone up to tonight? I'm listening to Dredg, was playing guitar before, still trying to teach self to sing. Seeing Team Sleep tonight in Sydney :D. |
Singing, eh? Sweet. I haven't done much lately because I've been into the real instrumental stuff. Any particular style or...?
I saw Gareth Koch (one of the guys from the classical/flamenco group Saffire) last night - he was good. Went to a sale at Billy Hydes this morning - I was going to meet God Hates Us All but I got home before he'd left his house :(. Nothing much on for tonight. Have fun at that gig :thumb:. |
I remember that guy from being on here sometime.
Oh, no particular singing, I can't really sing any style so I'll take whatever. The Billy Hydes here in Sydney is closed at the moment, they had a bit of a flood and there was some water damage. |
Ah that sucks.
How's that Maton of yours going? Done any more remixes? |
My Maton is great :).
And no, but I did a re-do of that Mogwai one I did that is much better than the first attempt. I listen to the first one now and I'm like  that sucked. I should have waited to listen to it a bit more before I posted it, because some bits weren't even properly synced :p. |
Heh.
/feels left out as is not allowed to put a pic in that guitar album thread. /has over-protective parents
common sense++ |
Yeah you're right, I was just looking for an excuse to bump this :p.
What's been happening? |
Umm deals anyone??
Umm deals anyone??
http://www.geocities.com/chillax1219/index.html?1119763369734
I don't trust his wording on that, it all seems like he's trying to reassure you far too much, a little more than you'd expect him too. And if he swindled you then there wouldn't be much you could do as the programs are blatantly illegal copies. I'd reccomend against it. |
Sounds illegal.
Knowingly paying for illegal goods is a crime in itself, that's my understanding anyway. |
I've seen more reputable Pubs named "Dirty Dick's".
|
Don't take that deal. Its a crock of ****.,
|
So how are y'all doing?
I'm looking into recording gear for no particular reason. |
Just got a rode nt1-a. so i'm going good.
|
What's that then?
I've been thinking I should look into owning some microphones. But I need to pay off a guitar, buy a phone, and some weights, and some other stuff that I haven't thought of yet. |

|
Look at you with your foam padding.
/wishes he had foam padding. |
That's not actually my studio, it's a picture some satudio that has the same mic as me.
|
wish i had padding.
/writes a folk song about how honest men never have padding |
Haha, make sure you record that one for us.
Well, I'm off in a few hours... going to the country for a week (oh no, no Mx :(). Have an awesome time, guys :). |
