I'm all for getting into new bands, and I'm gonna try make my next CD run all power metal, so can you guys think of a few specific CDs I should get? All the PM I have so far is Blind Guardian, Kalmah, Norther, and CoB. I like the cleaner singing stuff a little better BTW. Sorry if this has been asked in this thread already.
Edguy- Hellfire Club
Kamelot- The Fourth Legacy
Angra- Rebirth
Rhapsody- Symphony of Enchanted Lands
Hammerfall- Crimson Thunder
Lost Horizon- A Flame to the Ground Beneath
Manowar- Kings of Metal
Nightwish- Once

That should do it.

evil ernie 01-28-2005 08:12 PM

I recommand Helloween, Lost Horizon, Edguy, Avantasia, Dream Evil, Primal Fear and Symphony X.

By the way I wouldn't call CoB power metal.

Silenius 01-28-2005 08:13 PM

Don't start the CoB argument, in these forums they're Power Metal w/Harsh Vocals.

Moon Flavor 01-28-2005 08:22 PM

Thank you, and nobody really cares what genre CoB is, because they exist, and that's all that matters.

revolt838 02-02-2005 08:44 AM

anyone else heard Rhapsodys Knight rider of doom?
the start is very fast and dramatic, their really cheesey but i really dont care
i think their great, check out agony is my name 2.

Lord Abortion 02-02-2005 08:48 AM
So, being that I already have Something Wicked and Horror Show, should my next Iced Earth purchase be Dark Saga or Glorious Burden? I've heard good things about both, and I'll probably have both at some time, but what should be first?
Dark saga...
much closer to something wicked.
and brilliant too

a question of heaven and the hunter are on there
what more can you want?

Lord Abortion 02-02-2005 08:49 AM

can you reccomend some blind gaurdian please?
I tried the offical rec. thread but got no response
Thank you, and nobody really cares what genre CoB is, because they exist, and that's all that matters.
Nobody cares, but I still say they're power-death, which is what I refer to Kalmah, Norther, CoB, and other bands to that nature collectively as.

Why? Because it's power metal music with harsh vocals, and ignorant people call that Death because of the vocals soley, it's like Lamb Of God being called Death, so why not make a compramise and say it hase elements of both genres?

I have only just recently started getting into power metal with my purchase of Hatebreeder. What should I get now?

CaptainWaits 02-02-2005 03:28 PM
I have only just recently started getting into power metal with my purchase of Hatebreeder. What should I get now?
Rhapsody, Evergrey, Angra, Symphony X, Primal Fear,

Ask me if you want to know good albums by these bands

And for Bands like Bodom, basically: Norther and Kalmah

Fenrisulfr 02-02-2005 03:39 PM

Hey, anyone listened to Helloween's last album "Rabbit Don't Come Easy" ?
I heard it was crap, what do you think?

Josh 02-02-2005 03:51 PM

ive never actually listened to helloween.

to Sliptallica: try iron maiden (yes they are power metal, listen to the lyrics if you dont agree with me), dragonforce, hammerfall
they would be a good starting point.
and get follow the reaper by children of bodom.

Steerpike 02-02-2005 03:55 PM
try iron maiden (yes they are power metal, listen to the lyrics if you dont agree with me)
No, they were one of the bands that inspired the genre. Blue Oyster Cult and Black Sabbath use occult themes in their music, but they aren't power metal.

Iron Maiden's main contribution to the formation of power metal was the use of harmonized leads and belting, theatrical vocals (the latter of which was also a contribution of Dio).

Basically, saying Iron Maiden are power metal is like saying Black Sabbath is doom metal.

Yes, it's a terrible album. The only worthy Helloween is their first 3 albums, and yes, they are very worthy

Josh 02-02-2005 03:58 PM

so the fact that all the lyrics etc are power metal lyrics doesnt matter......?
they are definitely no longer the heavy metal band they were in the 80's, with the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal.
anyway, to be honest i'm not bothered what genre any metal really is as long as i like it.

Steerpike 02-02-2005 04:12 PM

Children of Bodom have harsh vocals and lyrics about Lake Bodom, life's struggles, death, and hatred, most of which are also laced with excessive profanity. Does that make them less power metal?

Lyrics are not the only thing that determines a band's genre.

Iron Maiden have evolved their sound over the years, true. Any decent band knows when its time to grow. But although they are technically NWOBHM, I still consider them classic metal in the vein of Judas Priest and Rainbow.

And for the most part, the extensive genres only exist for nerds like me who have no life outside of our music/books/movies/etc.

TemperamentalGoat 02-02-2005 06:00 PM

Soooo.... any recommendations for checking out Kamelot? Are they even considered power metal? Sorry for not sifting through 32 pages, just wanted to ask as a buddy sent me "Center of the Universe" and it was an orgasmic aural experience.
