Could someone recomend me some Necrophagist?
If you're looking for Necrophagist absolutely buy Epitaph, although the vocals are sub-par, the guitar, bass, and drums are absolutely amazing. If you're into that style, check out Miss Machine from The Dillinger Escape Plan and Ideas of Reference from PsyOpus.
can anyone recommend me some Mars Volta songs?
All of De-Loused in the Comatorium. Buy that album immediately, it will become one of your favorites really quickly. It is absolutely amazing. They've also got a new album coming out on March 1 entitled Frances the Mute. That is sure to be incredible as well.
Dark Angel, Kreator, and Testament, perhaps.

I need eastern asian folk music. Really.
Thanks dude.
And as for asian folk music..hmm..

Dude, I'm sorry, I'm not really amazingly up on the southeast Asian style of music,

I do however, know a crap load about Indian music, so I'll give you a few recomendations for it.

Ravi Shankar:
Raga: Jhimjhoti,
Raga: Patdeep,
Raga: Devgiri Bilawal,
Raga: Rasia.

All these works are pretty seminal, and very long, so you'll want to take that into account, but you really have to appreciate what kind of musician Shankar was, he was a legend and the only way to express it, I guess is through pieces like this.

(Ustad ) Ali Akbar Khan:
Raga Marwa (alap),
Raga Puviya Kalyan (gat in tintal),
Gauri Manjari,
Jogiya Kalingra.

Again, all extended pieces, I got a greatest hits (kinda scene) of this, and it had just three songs on it, so that tells you of the quality of the musicianship.

Meh, that marks my input on the Hindustani Classical Music genre,
The only other indian genre I know is bollywood, so here's some more tracks I guess.

Asha Bhosle:
In Aankhon Ki Masti,
Yeh Hai Reshmi Zulfon Ka Andhera,
Dum Maro Dum,
Chura Liya Hai Tum Ne - Mohd. Rafi.

You're really entering the cheesey world of Eastern music, and to be honest man, there's not much in Bollywood style music, a lot of it is incredibly tacky, cliché and not very well aranged. The first recomendations are a lot better, but this should be an O.K starting point to start understanding a lot more of music from the East

Hope some of this helps you,
:)

This thread is for asking for recommendations, and for replying to other peoples requests, not for randomly recommending music.

IAJP 02-09-2005 09:47 AM

The aim of this thread is this:

When someone asks for a recomendation, I.E: "Can someone recomend me a blues song, that has a slide guitar part?"

and someone who knows about the subject will answer:

"Yeah, Travelling Riverside Blues"

Throwing random recomendations won't usually go down well, but you're relatively new I suppose so we can forgive you :)

Can someone reccomend me some thrash other than Slayer, Megadeth, Pantera, or Metallica? Artists/albums please.
Can someone reccomend me some thrash other than Slayer, Megadeth, Pantera, or Metallica? Artists/albums please.
Exodus and Testament are really good for older stuff.

For newer thrash like music try Lamb of God and Children of Bodom.

Huber 02-09-2005 02:57 PM

Thanks

munky_magik 02-09-2005 02:57 PM

Chldren of Bodom are Power Metal.
Chldren of Bodom are Power Metal.
They don't really have a main genre, but they have some thrash influence.

Huber 02-09-2005 03:00 PM

It didn't matter, I already know of CoB ;)

Hate Crew Deathroll did have a lot of thrashy stuff in it.

munky_magik 02-09-2005 03:03 PM
They don't really have a main genre, but they have some thrash influence.
They have a few obvious influences, but their sound has most in common with Power Metal.

ToRidTheDisease 02-09-2005 03:13 PM

Kind of.

But I would say they are Black Metal if anything.

jpj 02-09-2005 03:33 PM

I've never heard anyone call them black metal. I've only heard people call them power or melo-death, but I know nothing of metal so I dunno.

munky_magik 02-09-2005 03:34 PM

They're Power Metal with harsh vocals.

3rdplanet 02-09-2005 04:41 PM

A teacher of mine told me to give The Cure a try, so I did.

I'm really liking the stuff like Prayers for Rain and The Same Deep Water as You, and not that stuff like Boys Don't Cry.

What would be the best album to buy?

Not sure if this should go in this thread or pop-punk/alt. indie forum.

Bartender 02-09-2005 04:55 PM

Alt/Indie is the best home for The Cure. You'd probably be recommended Pornography or Disintegration, but don't trust me for it, ask them.

The vocals dont make the genre

ToRidTheDisease 02-09-2005 04:58 PM
The vocals dont make the genre
I know they don't.

It's just the keyboard work, vocals, looks, and overall feel of the band. It's just what I see them as.

ToRidTheDisease 02-09-2005 04:58 PM

Anyway, can someone recommend me some good Amon Amarth albums and songs?

^Dream~Theater^ 02-09-2005 05:01 PM

Bloodshed is my fave Amon Amarth song.

They're power metal, though, and definitely not black metal.
Anyway, can someone recommend me some good Amon Amarth albums and songs?
I have Versus the World, and I like it alot. It comes with a bonus disc with their first three EPs I think. "Vintage Viking", as my friend put it.

3rdplanet 02-09-2005 07:12 PM

I really like Setting Fire to Sleeping Giants by The Dillinger Escape Plan.

Is much of their music like this? I have been told no, which would be dissapointing (sp?)
Shadows fall-art of balance
In this thread you cannot just say a random band or song to recommend for all to listen to. People have to ask for a genre, band or song. If you know a good genre, band or song to recommend, that fits the question, then you post in this thread.

Example:
Person 1: What is a good Opeth CD?
Person 2: Orchid

metalliman1066 02-10-2005 12:45 PM

Can someone recommend me some Pantera and Opeth
thnx !

Timidus 02-10-2005 12:57 PM

Well since I'm a HUGE Pantera fan I think most of their songs kick *** but here are some great ones

Walk - Vulgar Display of Power
The Art of Shredding - Cowboys from Hell
Cemetary Gates - Cowboys from Hell
Heresy (my favorite intro of all time) - Cowboys from Hell
10's - The Great Southern Trendkill
Drag the Waters - The Great Southern Trendkill
Mouth For War - Vulgar Display of Power
5 Minutes Alone - Far Beyond Driven
I'm Broken - Far Beyond Driven
