s0ldsoul4roknrol 11-12-2004 07:46 PM

Woa, I just heard Edguy for the first time. Sweet stuff to say the least. They sound like Maiden sort of.

s0ldsoul4roknrol 11-12-2004 07:49 PM

Anybody got any album reccomendations for Edguy?

heinrichkuhn 11-12-2004 09:44 PM
Manowar, perhaps?
I would ****en say

Steerpike 11-13-2004 12:45 AM

From what I've read, Hellfire Club is a good album to start with. It doesn't have the operatic sounds of their earlier albums, but it's still very popular and very accessible. I'm gonna snag it tomorrow if possible.

What I find interesting is how they wear their influences on their sleeves. You can tell Tobias Sammet is influenced by Dickinson/Halford/Tate, but he still has his own vocal quality. The riffs may sound Iron Maiden or Judas Priest inspired, but there's still a distinctive "Edguy" style. It's a great to see a band so unashamedly flaunt their "metal-ness."

*Bursts into thread*
*Doesn't have a clue what anyone's talking about*

Saw Dream Evil last night. Supported by Labryinth and Powerquest. Oh god yeah.

BTW, Dragonforce roX my boX. And apparently Sam, Vadim *and* Herman were there last night. But I didn't see them. Which sucks, because I haven't seen the guys for a good month :(

s0ldsoul4roknrol 11-14-2004 04:25 PM

Oh my god, yes. When I first heard Edguy's stuff from Hellfire Club(two nights ago) I thought I was listening to Maiden. Now I can hear some differences in the playing style, but yes they were highly influenced by Maiden.

Silenius 11-14-2004 04:27 PM

Would any one reccomend me Amorphis? They're Finnish, I'm not sure if they're power metal but I thought I'd ask here.

s0ldsoul4roknrol 11-14-2004 04:29 PM

Never heard of them.

Silenius 11-14-2004 04:33 PM

Maybe they're melodic death I'm not sure, I'll go ask in the death heads thread.

s0ldsoul4roknrol 11-15-2004 04:24 PM

Well guys the poll is pretty much over. The gold goes to Blind Guardian. The silver to Iced Earth. The bronze to Helloween. Happy polling :chug:

Has anyone heard Future World by Helloween? Funniest Power Metal song I've ever heard lol. I swear they must have been stoned whilst writing it, yet it still owns, just listen to the lyrics..........
"Because we all live in future world, a world thats full of joy"

Tonight we're gonna see the heavy metal hamsters

Helloween's best song lyrically is rise and fall

Romeo loved his Juliet
their parents told them "stop"
then it all turned out peculiar
He couldn't get it up.

:D

Do you guys reckon Melechesh is power metal? I always thought they were power metal with harsh vocals, like Children Of Bodom. But I've heard some say they are melodic death.

Those death heads just want to steal our music :D Well I haven't honestly heard any of their stuff. Reccomendations please?

Riva 11-15-2004 05:18 PM

Incendium Between Time And Mirage

s0ldsoul4roknrol 11-15-2004 05:34 PM

I could only get to listen to part of a song, but from what I heard it sounded more death than power.

downpaymentblues 11-15-2004 05:38 PM

Is Tobias Sammet the guy that wrote the music for the Avantasia albums?

Kafkastolemyslippers 11-15-2004 06:01 PM

A friend recently gave me some power metal albums of bands I had never heard of before:

Iron Fire
Nocturnal Rites
Heavenly
Steel Attack
Firewind

They are all pretty good, I need to get a better feel for them though. Anyone heard of any of them?

sensitiveorgan00 11-15-2004 06:28 PM

I've Nocturnal Rites. It was good solid power metal, nothing more. I haven't heard the others however.

downpaymentblues 11-15-2004 11:05 PM

does anyone know of Canadian power metal band called Hanker?
i've heard that in 2003 they were supporting Edguy.

Misfitted_Mecha 11-16-2004 09:06 PM

Hey I was wondering if someone could help me put together a good Power Metal mix CD. I am making it for a friend as he wants to get more into the genre. Preferably more upbeat songs, thanks.
