Not much of an idea what to expect.
[b]Headshot - Undergod[/b] - 5:18

Starts off with some choppy stabs of sound, then settles into a decent hard rock-ish riff.

Vocals come in around 0:35, accompanied by a drastic toning down of the instruments, which are now repeating almost the same rhythm as before, just in a more relaxed way. The vocals aren't what I was expecting at all, they're slightly vocodered and strained-sounding. I was expecting something louder, more assertive, more commanding. Not bad though.

The voice becomes more natural around the 1:00 mark, and slightly louder, though the music remains the same. Back to the proper riff around 1:20, with a shout from the vocalist. Doesn't last long though, just back to another verse.

A chorus now, I think. A change of riff, with the commanding vocals I was expecting before.

Some cool wah-influenced guitar after that, before a shout of "On your knees!" brings us back to that riff.

It's moving rather quickly now, from style to style, from that riff, to the quieter version, to a couple of totally different bits. I like this bit, it's unpredictable, rather good. The vocalist sounds very propaganda-like in his delivery and lyrics too, which is cool.

It goes all the way back to it's roots for the starting riff again, before fading out on a note.

The only Pogues song I know is, predictably, Fairytale Of New York. It's the best Christmas song ever written, so I'm expecting big things.

[B]The Pogues - If I Should Fall From Grace With God[/B]

Much as expected, it's very upbeat, and [I]very[/I] Irish. It evokes images of fulsome women in large skirts dancing in traditional pubs, which can only be a good thing.

A banjo makes an appearance. Bonus points. In fact, the instrumentation is all fairly unorthodox by modern standards - there's an accordian too. Obviously, within the genre of Irish drinking songs, this isn't too unusual, but it's the only genre you're likely to see the instrument appear in.

The only major complaint with the song is that it's only 2.20 long. It wouldn't be a problem on an album, but it's an issue when you isolate the song.

Like many drinking songs, the upbeat mood masks a lyrical bleakness. Shane Mcgowan sings here of death, of being rejected from heaven, and of that old favourite - colonial pride (This land was always ours/Was the proud land of our fathers/It belongs to us and them/Not to any of the others).

Not as good as Fairytale Of New York, but I'll certainly be keeping it on my PC.

Hm, first song I'll be hearing from UNKLE. Interesting..

Starts off with some feedback. Killer riff comes in. Holy ****ing **** it's catchy. Salsa-ish drums that reminds me of Eunuch Provocateur joins in too, and holy ****ing **** it's good. It sounds more garage-dance than trip-hop at this point. After a few dancey orgasmic moments, vocals enter.

Badly Drawn Boy's vocalist I presume? His voice is a bit laid back, it contrasts with the lively beat UNKLE busts out. It has a certain distorted, watery quality that gets you in some sort of a trance when you listen to it. Gosh, this is amazing.

The driving rhythym repeats a lot, but I sure don't mind. About 3 minutes the song slows down a bit then it builds up with the singer singing strangely sensually as he sings "I won't let you fall in love.."

The drums have that nice cool stereo-ish effect that resembles a bit of DJ Shadow except it's a bit more predictable but fast-paced. Nice subtleties here and there too.

I really can't describe how great this song is, there's so much flair and gusto, it's just so.. WOW for me.

starting out with some swishy, jingly ambience for about a minute
Then some transylvanian organ starts up, some stabs of guitar and drums build it up.
a few bars of cascading notes, can tell its working towards something.

Arh, I dont like this kind of drumming, the super fast bass-snare-bass-snare. There's a woman singing nicely, sounding quite out of place, and a guy growling. Some strings burst out every now and then. Nice harmonies by the lass. A choir.

Now it like sounds classical music if it was played with distorted guitars, and a violin does it too for one solitary bar... then and bass

ok, this is changing very often an very quickly. very hard to keep up.

then busts back into it, a now a sitar sounds off and this bit sounds like Atheist, but more repetitive. now section #38 begins, still sounds a bit Atheist like, but with electronic buzzes and strings. there are still 2 minutes left.

its more straight forward here, spazzier than most stuff. but it just cascaded back down into a rightly demented bit. Piano has some stampy sounding bits.

The nice female singer came back, I'd forgotten about her, its been just the growly guy for most of it.

it ended on a re-run of that classical riff.
















Definitely NOT an easy listen.. It's more random than a goats breakfast on a weekend of sundays. But, I got used to Spiral Architect, so this can be done too.

Impressive musicianship, and you'd need a good memory to be able to play the ****er. I didn't/don't like that super fast drumming, it didn't happen that often, so thats ok.
Right now, I didn't enjoy it.. in the future... I can see my self getting used to it.

It's too long for such a variable piece.
