doom kinda fails now idk
luc being an example of a dumb fucktard again. Good job bro:thumb:
Yikes bro, it doesn't get more stereotypical than that.

Bronson raps about being lonely, food fixations, drug abuse, his ancestral history. He has good presence on the beats and a good multisyllabic flow.

Danny brown lyrics typically follow " nigga your like this/
/nigga im like this"
My problem with this is that Bronson is even more stereotypical than Brown because he's cookie-cutter, no name NY rapper #4566 rapping about cookie cutter, NY-rap centric topics, such as ancestral history, drug abuse, being lonely, being gangster, etc. all with a white-boy twist that makes it even worse. So before you go and make Bronson out to be different, he's a very stereotypical New York rapper and a Ghostface clone.

I don't care if you like Brown or not, that's your own choice, but calling him generic and claiming that Bronson is even the slightest bit original is really fucking dumb and ignorant on your part. Good day.

matious 04-03-2012 11:01 AM

Never said Bronson was original, i like that he emulates that new york flavor in a modern way. I said he sounded like Ghostface in the original post. Lol good day

GOOD DAY SIR

Danny Brown is generic man, he's only aesthetically appealing. Nobody cared for danny brown when he wore NBA jerseys and fitted hats and rapped with a normal voice. It was when he started dressing flamboyant and really accentuating his annoying nasal drown delivery that people took notice.

They both share the same "cookie cutter" topics ( or real life experiences, term i prefer to use) but your correct, that "white boy twist" is very much absent.

Musically Brown is just another simple punchline rapper. The lil wayne analogy wasn't completely accurate, but in terms of fashion appeal and mannerisms, drug promotion whatever, they're pretty darn similiar, just with different demographics. Danny Brown is the lil wayne equivalent of the "underground" if you will.

Danny Brown helped push Exxquire into the spotlight which is cool though.

Gorgon 04-03-2012 12:14 PM

you do know that being aesthetically appealing is exactly what the phrase "good music" implies, eh?
Yeah, what a surprise! When he started being weird and different people started to pay attention.

also have you listened to XXX? He has lots of narrative songs and lyrics in there, not just punchlines. And to call them simple is a bit of a cop out, simplicity does not imply inelegance. His imagery is some of the best I've heard and that doesn't require being 'complex' which generally means convoluted when it comes to musicians.

You could write a good lyric that is simple and doesn't use words that are out of your vocabulary, or you could be a pretentious fool that uses a dictionary/thesaurus/etc to 'expand' your vocab and write a 'complex' lyric that just uses words incorrectly. Too many rappers to name that do this...
you do know that being aesthetically appealing is exactly what the phrase "good music" implies, eh?
Was speaking strictly of his appearance
Yeah, what a surprise! When he started being weird and different people started to pay attention.
Eh, I'd describe it more as prettier packaging. He didn't really mature musically, he just put a bow on top of it. I actually prefer the sound of the hybrid

I agree in general, but I do think Danny Brown is simple in a negative way. I will if this debate continues, but I'd prefer to not have to go back and listen to XXX again just to be better able to articulate why I don't like it.

Of course and I totally agree. Danny Brown isn't better for his simple wordplay ,however.

Gorgon 04-03-2012 12:29 PM

I don't even remember there being much word play in the album, mostly just very visual phrases.

his annunciation and his flow did change from the hybrid to XXX, Detroit 187 is a good example of how he did grow up and try new things.

you can not like XXX all you want, I just don't see why you think that Brown is a worse MC than Bronson. I think that's absolutely absurd.

matious 04-03-2012 12:36 PM

I never even insinuated bronson was a better MC, I just said Danny Brown bores me, which he does. I'll keep listening to him though, check out his next releases or whatever the fuck "bruiser brigade" does which is a corney rap crew name he needs to fix that

Gorgon 04-03-2012 12:38 PM

lol bruiser brigade
hilarious name

Idnuf 04-03-2012 01:20 PM
I never even insinuated bronson was a better MC
yes making posts where you say "action bronson is [positive description] and danny brown is [negative description]" definitely doesn't insinuate anything

may not be as good as madvillainy, but its still damn good. You honestly can't expect an artist, let alone a rap artist, to maintain that sort of consistent quality over their career. No one has done it in the history of rap. So, good job at being dumb:thumb:

publicastration 04-04-2012 08:22 PM

I'm dumb because I have extreme preference

my point is that it's NOT madvillainy, I'm not the biggest doom fan to begin with, MM... food might be good if the production wasn't stop/start grating annoying, madvillainy is the only shit of his that I've absolutely loved

I'm a big doom fanboy, so I really enjoyed born like this. Tracks like gazzilionaire and cellz were on par with his best, the rest of it wasn't as hot; im not a fan of jake one as a producer.

But everything Doom has done lately has been crazy original. Every new song since the thom yorke collaboration has been at least interesting. Doom has been able to stay relevant in hip hop for almost 2 decades now, thats crazy for the genre.

And Vaudeville Villian is my favorite release by him. It's not as comfortable to listen to but its fucking crazy, best lyrical showcase by doom .

Royce Da 5'9 was enough to scare me away from BME but ill check it out if you think its worth it.

Never listened to Crooked I neither, sorry.
