hey superjoe... what kinda effect is that? and what are the specs, if u dont mind

AlmightyPancake 05-11-2006 09:22 PM

I'm guessing it's a compressor.

Az_Holl 05-12-2006 02:31 AM
what exactly are the specs for that?

and what do all the switches do...
Dimarzio Will Power Neck>3 way switch (parallel/series/single-coil)>volume>first output

Dimarzio Model P>run in series> volume> tone> second output

Seymour Duncan MM replacement>3 way switch (parallel/series/single coil)> volume>tone> second output.

I should type this somewhere so i can just paste it here :p

semi 05-12-2006 03:11 AM

looks like a rangemaster i think.
i think he might have said it was too.

this is my jazz project so far, next i plan to get some new pickups, or a pre-amp or something, maybe repaint it

(so far it's been defretted, and the brand sanded off and the headstock coated.. few pickup adjustments to)

the101er 05-12-2006 03:23 PM

My current project is pretty simple, just installing a Humbucker into a Telecaster, maybe routing for a tremolo. Not sure yet

BTW, does anyone have diagrams for the connection between the pickup switch and pickups for a Humbucker/Singlecoil?

Specialsauce 05-12-2006 07:49 PM

as soon as i get a workshop set up, i can start my eurb... prolly take a couple months though....

Son of Magni 05-13-2006 11:26 AM

Another project nearing completion, 6-string lined fretless with maple lines on the usual marked frets and purpleheart on the rest :)

Oh yeah, it's a dual-coil in the musicman position and piezo in the bridge.

hellonearth07 05-13-2006 11:56 AM

i like how you lined the fret board with purple heart and maple

that top sheet's beautiful too, love it

the only thing i think could be changed is the headstock right by the nut...IMO it looks a lil bit bulky and outta place

but still your basses are beautiful

superjoe 05-13-2006 12:14 PM
hey superjoe... what kinda effect is that? and what are the specs, if u dont mind
its a rangemaster copy, it boosts the highs and gives a light od, its mainly used for driving the hell out of a cranked tube amp. gives you that brian may, tony iommi, early clapton tone with a GOOD tube amp and some humbuckers.

the switch changes the input caps making it a full or treble booster. i forgot to buy the second input cap so right now its just a treble booster.
I'm guessing it's a compressor.
nope, but im building an orange squeezer compressor for my friend in about a week.

Akira 05-13-2006 12:37 PM

SoM, the bass is cool, but for some reason that headstock looks absolutely massive. It looks like it is as big as the body!
I figured as much. I really like that top. What is that?
It's claro walnut, and had a crotch running through the board. So there's all the twisted crotch wood expanding out into all the figured walnut. I got two basses, front and back, from the one board for which I paid something like $350. And enough scrap for a few more headstocks.

Peg Dizzler 05-13-2006 03:28 PM

Hey SoM,
How did you put the wood in the fretslots? Did you cut each piece out or did you just use glue and sawdust?
Also.. how fast do you build these things?

i built an orange squeeze, but all it does for me is boost the signal a lot. i can't figure out where i messed up.

I use veneer. Cut oversize pieces, glue them in, then trim off the excess with a chisel. Then clean it all up with a radius block.

Don't make my track the hours, I'd probably quit :p

Maybe 16 hours a week for 10 weeks, probably more.

Keeps me out of trouble...

tomg666 05-14-2006 05:37 AM

well this was my first ever project that i did for my gcse exam it turned out well it is a semi acoustic it has a rotary switch to select the pickups with a killswitch setting and it is made out of oroco wood that was reclaimed from an old skool science bench. im pretty pleased with it and i think that this new forum is a great idea as it would of helped alot if i was to do it again

btw these were taken on my camera phone so the pics arent amazing and dont really show off the grain but hey

Tryxx 05-14-2006 09:36 AM
which is when?
Hopefully they'll both be started in a couple of weeks. We're working on getting a contract exchanged for one bass, and waiting on a paint quote and stuff for another.

tomg666 05-14-2006 10:12 AM

It is true www.wikipedia.org--->lutherie--->A luthier is a person who builds or repairs stringed instruments, either bowed or plucked. These include violins, violas, cellos, double basses, guitars of all kinds, lutes, and mandolins."

But who cares? Drums are sweet, let em in.

A friend of mine is making a harp for his daughter.

edgebass5 05-16-2006 04:19 PM

In chronological order:

2002 Hoppus bass Frankenstein Project: I started with a Mark Hoppus Fender Signature that was given to me as a gift. I stripped the bass down until it was nothing more than a blue piece of wood. I replaced the neck with a maple neck, maple fretboard, 13-degree angled warmoth style headstock from warmoth guitar parts. I routed out the P-style routing for an MM style routing which I left in the P position. I custom cut a white/black/white pickguard, and added a jazz bass control plate. I used a Seymour Duncan SMB-4DS pickup and tone circuit. The bridge was a Leo Quann Badass.

1997 Warwick Corvette 4-String: Removed the stock passive MEC pickups and passive tone circuit. Replaced both with a set of DiMarzio Model J's and an Aguilar OBP-3 with an active/passive switch.

2000 Modulus Flea 4-String: Removed the existing Lane Poor MM (despite how many amazing things are said about these pickups I just didn't like it all that much). Replaced it with a Nordstrand MM4.2. Added active/passive, and series/parallel switches as well.

The Hoppus in the one on the right, the Warwick is on the left, the Flea is in the middle (this photo of the Flea bass was taken before the mods were performed)

Flea bass after the mods were performed

1983 Peavey Foundation 4-String: Hardwired the pickups directly to the output jack. In other words there are NO onboard controls for this bass. You plug it in, and that's it.

2005 Warmoth/Status Jazz Bass: Purchased an alder jazz bass body from Warmoth guitar parts and a Status J neck from Status-Graphite in England. Used DiMarzio Model J pickups which are hardwired as neck-parallel/bridge-series and then directly to the output jack. In other words, you can turn the 3 knobs on the control plate, but they're not hooked up to anything at all, so you'll just be fooling yourself. Used a Gotoh 206 that I had lying around for the bridge. Gotoh Delta series tuning machines, Fender Deluxe V string retainer, Fender Jazz bass control plate, Fender jazz bass knobs, and a white pearl pickguard to finish everything out. Neck was installed with EZ-Lock Stainless Steel threaded inserts and 10-24 machine screws (this attachment method is far superior to the typical wood screws that are more commonly used). In the future I will be attaching the bridge with a similar method (the only thing that wil change is potentially the size of the threaded inserts/machine screws involved).

I would love to see pics of a harp in progress!

So, this bass is pretty much done. Now only one bass in progress and I think I need a rest after this one and the headless that I just completed. This has a dualcoil and a piezo bridge. Sounds very cool... looks ok too...

Sorry about the crappy backround.

Hmm, it seems that smilies count against the image count? Oh well.
