Seriously, Panic! At the Disco has 3 good songs!

They Academy Is... is far more deserving of the Best New Band award. C'mon people
The Academy Is... are an amazing band, and brought out easily one of my favourite records of the year. But I think Panic! has that charm about them where they can write songs which just sound amazing. They are addictive, their music is not only catchy but has variety and is quite simple, and I just think they are a much better band than TAI...

hey, you're not cory! 10-31-2005 08:29 PM

Eh, they're just such a knock off of the Chicago pop-punk style and they don't deserve any of the credit they get. I honestly love the "The Only Difference Between Maryrdom and Suicide is Press Coverage" song but most of the rest of the cd is a disappointment.

By Chicago pop-punk I will assume you mean Fall Out Boy?

This band by far surpasses Fall Out Boy's style, and the fact that they can both play live and well on the CD proves they were pretty much a natural born band.

The Academy Is... however, started out with a piss-poor EP, mimicking bands like Taking Back Sunday. Don't get me wrong, it took Almost Here for them to realize their proper sound, but I think P!ATD are just one of those bands that are naturally good at songwriting.

Yes, I meant Fall Out Boy, TAI, Spitalfield and such...

The Academy Is...'s EP wasn't really THAT bad. It was nothing special by any means but it was still good. I dont know what it is about Panic! but I just really dislike them for reasons I can't put my finger on.

And don't get me wrong, I went into them expecting to love them. I've been thinking about giving the album another shot though, I will here in the next few days.

Mute Print 10-31-2005 08:39 PM

Spitalfield is an awesome band.

Kif 10-31-2005 08:39 PM

For me they were one of those bands who I heard and from the first demo I got my hands on, I knew it was going to be amazing. I can't describe it, I just think their songwriting is excellent. They don't take themselves too seriously, yet they have some elligance in their lyrics (Not all of them, mind you).

Oddly I've heard more about that being their worst album than anything good at all about it. I've only listened to it like twice though.

Kif: For the 7" of the month, the one I want is the one with 'Arming the Proletariat With Potato Guns' and 'I Am Going To Hell For This One'.

Give me a while to consider this stuff. This poll should run to the end of the year, to make it fully relevant.

Although, I'm pretty sure some shit band like Co&Ca will win everything anyway, so voting on most of the categories seems pretty pointless anyway.

I do apologise for myself though.... I was very drunk when I posted it and was probably more than a little harsh.
