you sold a bass for £35?

someone bought a bass for £35!?

pitchfork 01-23-2006 11:12 AM

I ripped them off seriously this bass needed scrapping. Repainting, new pots, rewiring, new strings and new bridge. It was a stagg though and the bridge was rusty because i spilled beer all over it.

d-basser 01-24-2006 02:42 PM
hmmmm i have some of the cheapo plastic ones but for some reason they dont fit on my peavey which pissed me off
oh yeah thats the other reason that i use he rubber off bottle tops cos cheap straplocks don't fit peaveys, grr.

cliff_bass player 01-25-2006 01:06 AM

i prefer shaller straplocks... you replace the whole strap pin... it a two peice thing... strap pin and a lock that ataches to ur strap which goes on and off by pulling tle ball at the end... works great. and it was half the price of normal straplocks

cliff... or yea go to bottle cap idea if u want the strap to stay on permently... not a bag idea tho

Polyamarous 01-25-2006 04:59 AM

Straplocks are so overrated.

Duct Tape

pitchfork 01-27-2006 01:18 PM

Don't start another thread on duck tape we all know brain surgeons use it and its useful but its been done.
ghetto locks yo!
:chug:

yep, but i think i'm gonna get some beer bottle caps, crush em down so the edges dont scratch my bass, then put em on there..... i'm thinking rolling rock bottle caps, but i might go wit heinekin.

hedgefudge420 01-28-2006 12:03 AM

i`ve always wanted to do this...but I always destoyed the caps trying to get a hole thru em......

pitchfork 01-28-2006 03:27 AM

Fair enough, I didn't care about scratching my bass and how could you when the strap is in the way. Would look better with the caps crushed down though.

-whitey- 02-23-2006 04:31 AM

also 3 pence washers work amazingly, they are more discreet than the big bottle caps lol

but anything that screws on is better than straplocks that come off, like dunlop, they come off all the time, the hard way to find this out is seeing ur mate's face just as the headstock came flying towards him lol

pitchfork 02-23-2006 02:01 PM

I don't know schaller and grover don't come off easily. I had to use a pair of pliers to unscrew my grovers once.

do u know if the expensive straplocks fit on ure bass

d-basser 03-29-2006 03:04 AM

aint tried, just tried those plastic ones that you fit on and twist. rubber beer bottle washers work a treat tho, also i cant afford expensive ones

pitchfork 04-01-2006 02:46 AM

Use the actuall strap button ones, you replace the strap button with the strap locks.

fuzzyhair 04-02-2006 12:19 PM

I think that if you took off the pin and found a washer that fit over the small part, but stopped at the big part, that it would work excellent. You just couldn't take the strap off.

lobsterjohnson 04-03-2006 11:56 PM

i think i ave weird strap buttons cause their as big at the botom as they are at the top they just taper in the middle

maddmanp5s 04-08-2006 09:12 AM

musicians friend---fender straplocks --13$--the best on the market--i believe--but don't order right now--there on backorder---for a couple months--i've been waitin and waitin---i'm fixin to do a welfare fix like this to get me by till they come in--but as soon as they do i'm changin em cause i like to take my strap off when i put my bass in my gig bag---very worth the 13 $ to me....

lobsterjohnson 04-09-2006 06:13 PM

i just made my own
wors pretty well
doesnt look that bad itll work untill i save some money
i think im gonna paint them black

Billie'sBouncer 04-23-2006 04:16 AM

$3.00 i cant complain. :thumb:

masterofdisaster 05-29-2006 08:50 PM

my bro went to europe and got some danish(i think) coins (the ones that have holes in the middle) they are much cheaper than straplocks and gorgeous to boot

Aes820 05-29-2006 10:40 PM

I sewed my straps on. They aint moving anywhere.

pitchfork 05-30-2006 04:26 AM

How the hell do you sew your strap on?

masterofdisaster 05-30-2006 10:59 AM

you take floss(or something similar) and you sew the hole so its smaller. if you want you can also take off the buttons and put the strap in between the buttons and the body. aes is right, they dont go anywhere

hartke20g 05-30-2006 12:46 PM

can someone with bottle cap or washer 'straplocks' post some pics? i don't see how it's the easiest thing in terms of removing the strap.
are there straplocks out there that will let me take my strap off in 5 seconds without having to unscrew the strap pins? because i put my strap on the actual strap pin, not the screw, meaning that the strap goes around the recessed part of the strap pin.

motoden 05-30-2006 03:31 PM

Steal the hose clamps from your lawnmower's gas line and stick em on your geetar.:thumb:

I tried putting straplocks on my epiphone les paul standard,
The schaller ones, and the pin was too small because the utter twat who owned the guitar before me put HUGE screws in it. so The smaller screw kept ripping out
So i went rummaging through my old toolbox and found Much bigger screws
but with the same size head as the schaller screws
And i screwed em in uber tight and now my strap is LOCKED FOREVER! MUhahahahahaa
AND when i was finding new screws i found this wierd screwdriver that can screw/unscrew screws that have been completly threaded. i used it on my old epi SG. i was like :O

Peg Dizzler 06-16-2006 03:06 PM

It's my opinion that the Schaller straploks are the best. They have the best system, and very high quality.

Before that I had washers on one of my guitars for awhile, it worked alright, considering I didn't care about the looks of that guitar.

Golan 06-16-2006 07:40 PM

Schaller locks own.

rocken rossco 06-17-2006 01:15 AM
Schaller locks own.
agreed

pitchfork 06-17-2006 03:39 AM

I like the grovers, they are so damn simple and they look badass.

I had the same problem when installing the Schaller's on my LP. I didn't even put the new screws in, instead I used the original screws out of the LP and sanded down the heads so the were smaller, then I had to bore out the straplock so the original screws would fit through.
