Zappa 10-04-2005 07:00 PM

Xiu Xiu should be more of a "zhoo zhoo," shouldn't it?

Anxious 10-04-2005 07:02 PM
Xiu Xiu is pronounced "shoo shoo". I have that on high authority.
What like you've seen them live twice or something?

And I say godspeedyoublackemperor because I feel awkward saying those words.

i like the name Godspeed! You Black Emperor better. it actually makes sense.
Godspeed You! Black Emperor just sounds like two incomplete sentences.
Someone in punk said "Mack-Eye"
It is Mack-eye

YDload 10-04-2005 09:18 PM

What? Why would it be anything except Mac-K? People named Kaye have their name pronounced like the letter itself, and I would expect no different from that guy named Ian.

Anxious 10-04-2005 09:27 PM

I always used to think that, but, REINER, (the mod in Punk) said his teacher used to know him, and he pronounced it Mack-eye.
Xiu Xiu is pronounced "shoo shoo". I have that on high authority.
The singer pronounces it that way, but in Mandarin Chinese Pinyin it is technically "Shee-oh Shee-oh," with the 'ee' part going really fast and the 'sh' being palatalized. But it doesn't really matter anyway.

mr_jackalope 10-05-2005 12:50 PM

Ennikk.

Mogwai = Mog-why.

It's like in Gremlins, it's a Japanese word that means "ghost".

Ay-lend oü would be my guess, with the "ay" being like in "way" and and the ü being like that of a French u (an ee with rounded lips).

I am pretty sure it is pronounced oy-e-ay. I know that his first name is pronounced er-lend.
