Not as good as they are with Lars.

Grunge_Zombie 09-04-2005 08:31 PM

Green Day.

cheeser_1 09-04-2005 09:11 PM

i think it would have been interesting. i'd say it would have changed green day more than it changed rancid. but who knows...

Listen to "Radio".

Billie helped write a lot of that song structure.

samayoa_danny 09-04-2005 10:01 PM

KingOfSka 09-04-2005 10:03 PM

They would have very very simple guitar riffs :-/
rancid rules
Cool.
They would have very very simple guitar riffs :-/
Hardly. Listen to Pinhead Gun Powder. Billie Joe is a great guitarist, one of the best out there right now, but he dumbs down his lines so kids can play along, and gives it a more mainstream feel.

cheeser_1 09-04-2005 11:05 PM

well, and speaking generally, there's nothing wrong with a simple tune.

Skidmark Steve 09-04-2005 11:33 PM

yea exactly. hes real good. at live shows he plays solos with his teeth and stuff. i dont know why he doesnt add it to his songs tho...

but who cares about crazy guitar solos. we aint no metal heads

Rude Boy Ska 09-04-2005 11:52 PM

Well, I don't mean to get off topic in my own topic of a band profile, but listen to early Green Day stuff when they were still around Gilman Street. Billie played crazy guitar solos, I can keep up with most of his guitar stuff on Dookie, but anything before that is too hard for me. Tim is the same though, in his early Gilman Street days, he played some complicated guitar lines, but now he has dumbed them down a lot and just uses catchy stuff(like Billie). Notice that they are both mainstream successes. People like to hear catchy tunes that they can play for their friends, mostly in the key of C so it's easy for them to figure out.

Davey Jones 09-05-2005 06:53 AM

i notice that when they play live, you can see timmy turn his guitar down so he can jump around. lars plays most of the guitar live.

Angry Balled Fists! 09-05-2005 07:26 AM

I love 'em so awesome, but they get so much undue critisism...

Davey Jones 09-05-2005 07:31 AM

but don't get me wrong, i love them, they do cop a lot of flak. But I love them. They are a fine punk rock band.

I'd do that too, jumping is fun

Davey Jones 09-06-2005 08:04 AM

absolutely, it's what I do :D

bigdudedrummr07 09-06-2005 09:28 AM

nice profile of an amzing band, but shoudn't they be listed as being in the Give em the Boot DVD as well? Since over half of it was Rancid anyways, I thought that maybe it should be up there?

Skidmark Steve 09-06-2005 12:11 PM

i just got the Give em' the boot DVD. most of the rancid stuff sounded good...except for red hot moon. they ruined that one...

the maxwell murder solo in that was amazing...he added another 2 minutes of soloing onto it.

Matt also did that solo live a couple years ago when I saw him. He is so amazing.

fatwreckpunk 09-06-2005 12:48 PM

very good profile indeed, i was hoping for it to be a little longer

fatwreckpunk 09-06-2005 12:55 PM

i learnt the original solo, the live one he plays is just based up the higher frets, like white knuckle ride style, if you have a quick picking technique its quite easy, just make sure you play it all in the same scale

skatebum 09-07-2005 08:10 PM

so anyone here feel rancid ripped off the clash? can you explain how, or in what songs ect

AIRIC 09-07-2005 08:11 PM

No. I've never felt that.

Rootsradical 09-07-2005 08:51 PM
so anyone here feel rancid ripped off the clash? can you explain how, or in what songs ect
I don't understand that either. I love both bands and I have all rancid cds and not one song sounds like they ripped off of the clash. I only have the first 3 clash albums so I could be wrong but they are 2 totally different bands.

I'd reply to this, but I get banned if I post negative comments.

If you have AOL Instant Messanger, send me a message and I'll tell you what I think.

SocalJoker89 09-18-2005 07:27 PM

u should do these for alot of bands ur pretty good at it

Weezerfan_returns 09-18-2005 08:23 PM

Rancid is great, but i'm honestly kind of sad about Tim Armstrong. He's really gone down the ****ter in the last 5 years or so...

guns_of_brixton 09-18-2005 08:26 PM

The radio was playin' Desmond Dekker was singin' blahaadmafmspfsdfposdf HIIIILLL!

Weezerfan_returns 09-18-2005 08:58 PM

haha is your avatar a neil young album?

Rude Boy Ska 09-19-2005 12:49 PM
u should do these for alot of bands ur pretty good at it
Apparently, I'm not. When I first posted this, I got repped for 10 points, now I'm -39 or -29 because of it. So, I decided I wouldn't be a productive poster anymore. I also kind of gave up on the forums.

RIP Ian Curtis 09-19-2005 12:57 PM

Just because everyone picks on Rancid ain't no reason to get downhearted. It's a da'mn fine profile and if all these tree-hugging scum don't appreciate it then fu'ck em all.

azguitar92 09-19-2005 01:52 PM

wat a great profile, if only you could do it for a band that i liked...lol.

FightDaPowa! 09-19-2005 02:29 PM

Good profile.

I love Rancid punk or not.

smokersdieyounger 09-22-2005 05:35 AM

Was completely in love with them after I heard Rancid V when I was about 16, but I still like them even though I like less commercial bands, I still like the commercial punk I started on.
