If someone can explain to me the uploading process, I could rip some pretty sick reggae albums on to my computer later.

This is a great thread.

put all of the songs of a certain album in a zip file. Then go to www.yousendit.com and upload the zipfile (this may take a while..be patient) once you are done you will be sent to another page and givin a link. then post the link in this thread. When you post your link, remember to replace the tt in http:// with xx because yousendit will track it down and get pissed off. Example: look at handsworth revolution (the 3rd post i think..just above the word document with the list of my c-ds)

To each his own i suppose. Earth Crisis was the first Steel Pulse i ever heard and blew me away immediately. It will forever remain a favorite of mine.

Pirate Satellite 09-04-2005 11:13 AM

I'm really pretty awful with computers and I never have the patience to be on for too long at a time. It may take me a while to figure this out, because technology's just not my bag.

Most of my music isn't even on my computer. However, if anyone wants me to send them John Brown's Body, Burning Spear, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Dub Side Of The Moon, or the Trojan Dub or Chill-Out boxed sets, my AIM screen name is arsonmadeeasy. Otherwise, it may be a while, but some of that stuff is really worth the wait.

KayaMon 09-04-2005 08:57 PM

Id be happy to post Dub side of the moon if anybody wants to hear it. Its an essential for any good Dub collection.

To Start A Conversation:
The other day i was reading the reviews for African Holocaust (Steel Pulse) on Amazon and i found one poster:

Reviewer: MamboCha. (Cherry Hill, N.J. US)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/customer-reviews/B0002DRE2C/ref=cm_cr_dp_2_1/104-6292430-7153512?%5Fencoding=UTF8&s=music

He talked about how kids today, wearing Bob Marley t-shirts etc. (not being really into reggae) think about Che Guevara when they think of Marley (both being something that seems to be in the "mainstream" at the moment) but if you think about it, Bob Marley would have been one of the people Che killed or sent to prison, because Bob spoke freely, spoke his mind. Check out the review he does a great job explaning it...Thoughts?

Duppy 09-05-2005 10:26 AM

good to see a reggae thread here. :) i luv i jah, that man in the review says what most of us intelligent people think, but it's hard to argue with the masses who think that Che was a revolutionary and similar to Bob. It is hard to believe a reggae band would promote the brutal Castro in their songs. Bob was a freethinker and freespeaker, while Che and Castro knew no love. If anyone has seen a film called the Motorcycle Diaries, it is about Che when he was younger... his original ideals. it is sad the way he turned out to be.

so, should I post some reggae music?

if you want...albums would be awsome...i showed how to post them, in some posts (i think on the first and second page) what do you got?

Duppy 09-05-2005 10:40 AM

i don't want to post full albums, since I believe that people should buy the music, but maybe a few songs from Trojan roots?

I dont see any similarities between Bob marley and Che Gueverra, other than the fact that everyone owns a shirt with either of them on it and that nobody knows anything about them.

Oh yes and heres some dub.

Easy star Allstars-Dub side of the moon.
Does anyone else think Peter Tosh is a better guitar player then Bob Marley?
I do.

sweboy 09-05-2005 04:56 PM

Yeah, I mean, Peter played lead and Bob played rhytm, for the most part. But none of them were really anything special on the guitar.

ATM 09-05-2005 04:56 PM

I have a bootleg that proves otherwise.

sweboy 09-05-2005 05:00 PM

Al Anderson > Peter and Bob.

To try to add a differing view to you conversation...

I think that the writer of that review takes a pretty harsh criticism of Che and plays along with American propoganda. While Che believed it took ruthless measures to truly overthrow oppression and fascism, he never fell from his original ideals, and he always fought selflessly for the poor and helpless. I see no reason that Che would have killed Bob, since Bob would never have supported the Batistas in Cuba.

While I do not support any type of violence, including the Che's revolution, looking at it objectively (without the influence of American media propoganda) than you will see that the actions Che took to fight fascism around the world were not nearly as bad as the action that the American backed fascist states took to oppress their people and support American corporate interests.

As for Bob's specific politics. "Get up Stand up Stand up for you right don't give up the fight" seems to portray a message of standing up against oppression, similar to the message and the action that Che took to third world countries. The obvious arguement is that Cuba fell in with Soviet Russia and oppressed it's own people, betraying it's ideals. But I'd attribute this to Castro's pragmatic problem solving in a world dedicated to seeing him fail. In conclusion I would argue that Bob's ideals overlap greatly with those of Che's if not his ruthless action. However saying that Bob is better since he talked a lot with little action while Che took contraversial action would be wrong. And to assume that Bob would not have supported Che's ideals would also be wrong. I think that idealizing these two individuals, while maybe not perfectly accurate since they both had flaws, does portray an image of both love and revolution,

agree 100% al anderson is an amazing guitar
then peter who is also a very good guitarist
and you never hear bob solo or anything, so i can't really say anything

could you post that bootleg by anychance

If that's the acoustic bootleg that someone (maybe you) uploaded a month or two ago in Alt/Indie, you should upload it again. The people here would like it.
