To Lewis Therin:
G&L actually have 5 neck options to choose from. Mine is the baseball bat you speak of, but I've gotten used to it, and actually prefer it over Jazz style necks. As for the electronics, you can switch it in to passive mode (which is where it usually is set for me). Honestly I don't know why more G&L's aren't used for metal; their pups are some of the most "hot" out there. Some people complain of noise while in active mode, but I don't get any.
wasnt aware of the neck thing, every one ive ever played has the baseball bat neck. and I know you can switch them into passive, but that still leaves you with superfluous controls and electronics. |

Where's PandaLicker?
I was >this< close to getting an L2500 but then went with Ric. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get an natural or Blueburst L2500 as my next bass. G&L's rock my socks off. |
Here's my G&L:-

That binding looks pretty sweet.
Those toes on the other hand, do not ;) |
Bryce: I was super close to getting a MM before the ASAT. The reason I went for the G&L was its versatility. I absolutley LOVE the MM tone, but when you buy a MM, that's really all you get. With this I can get quite a few different tones from it, though generally I don't mess with the tone too much after I've found a combo I like. I think they are both great basses, and some day I'd like a MM... but that's down the list after I get a vintage P ;)
Whilst I do disgagree with that comment, especially with the Sterling and 'Ray 5, I can get a lot of different sounds out of my Sterling, it's alot of getting to know the bass. Still, if your worried about that, there's always the H/H Ray's and Sterling's now ;) |

Don't own one, but was playing one yesterday. They do actually club most things to death.
Even baby seals. |

I love the MM tone, and you definately can get varying sounds. The G&L does a decent MM, but in order to get that true MM tone, you need a MM. And what are these new MM's you're tlaking about? /runs to website joe |
G&Ls are definately great basses. I dont like that I havent seen any neck-through models, but other than that they are cool, my friend owns one. I would never trade my spector for one though...
|
I don't think they've come out just yet.
|
This retarded comp here at workl doesn't have flash, so i can't go to the website... lame.
joe |
i love my G&L L-2000 iut cuts through everything and has a pretty powerful sound >:o i also like the fact that it weighs a ton because im a pretty big dude and it balances better for me because of the weight. all in all G&L makes a fine instrument >:o. only thing is i wish i had a camera >:(
|
mmmmm joe your bass is tremalicious.
|
With all the "Show me Yours!" threads starting up, I thought this deserved to be up here ;)
joe |
wait, does yours have a tremolo?? that kicks ***
|
Im not really into G&Ls, the looks just turn me right off.

Yeah. An OG Kahler. ESP... I've been hearing that a lot lately, but I always thought I was immune because of the ASAT body style, but even that's been catching some flack lately. joe |
joe i love you...er your bass
I love the looks and feel, but the pickups were waaay to hot for me. Not what I was looking for at all.
dont mean to sound n00by, but what do you mean by "hot"?? |
dont mean to sound n00by, but what do you mean by "hot"??
They have a high output value I *think*.... |
dont mean to sound n00by, but what do you mean by "hot"??
The term "hot" is usually applied to high-gain high-resistance pickups. |

it's a tribute, but it still kicks butt! wow! i haven't even owned this bass for a week yet and i'm already whoring it a lot! |
I wish I could post pictures in this thread.
|
Dammit Joe, you're making me miss my G&L. In traded it for a Lakland.
Oh well, I'll post pics anyway. Yeah, I really wish I could play that bass again, I think that fact that it was kind of uncomfortable at first, but I eventually got really used to it makes it even better. And as far as Stingrays go, the Lakland get way closer than the G&L to getting a Stingray sound. |
I like this thread.... I think I'll bring it back to life.....
:) joe |
I like joe....umm this thread as well. I almost got a G&L, got my ibanez instead.

lowsound
sorry. |
sorry.
My ibanez blows the tribby that I was going to buy out of the water. It is a 1985 musician, made in japan, dual humbuckers, ect. lowsound |
There's only one thing that keeps G&L basses from the top 10 on my list. Their electronics.
The electronics, when in passive, are great, but on every one I've owned (about 12, old and new), and played (another 5 or 6) the minute you put them into active mode, they have a hum. As I said above, every single one I've come in contact with. I've played them through different setups, in different venues, etc, and they've all hummed in active mode. For the money you pay for them new, I'd expect them to be hum free. I've even tried to shield the cavities with copper foil, and that didn't even stop the hum. |
