well I dont like flaming lips I actually dont see what peaple like about them.not trying to knock anybody for what they listen to or like but they're way over rated
You're Mom's overrated.

Nice bump...meh

Flaming Lips are crazy good.

Zebra 03-30-2006 07:49 PM

Their best albums are the one's they made in the 80's. I like Oh My Gawd...The Flaming Lips, Hit to Death in the Future Head and Finally, the Punk Rockers are Taking Acid the best. Yoshimi is a solid effort, but some of the tracks toward the middle of the album are just a bore (Are You a Hypnotist?). Zarieeka is very unique and is an incredible listen once you get it properly hooked up.

CarnageFairy 03-30-2006 08:38 PM

The new album is pretty damn good. It's a lot like Yoshimi, but also a lot like their older stuff.

Hot damn.

sr800bkBassist 03-30-2006 09:41 PM

wow, huge bump.

anyway, Hit To Death in the Future Head is mind blowing.
like My Bloody Valentine + Butthole Surfers. crazy distorted fuzzy noisy psychedelic punk rock at it's best.

Sleeper 03-30-2006 10:55 PM

There streaming 'At War With The Mystics' on the Flaming Lips website, I've listened to it about five times. There's only two songs i don't really like, but a great album.

Aeaon 03-30-2006 11:10 PM

I've listened to some of it. Hasn't grabbed my attention as well as I had hoped it would, but it's great anyway.

lcjs 03-31-2006 02:40 AM

It's good, but a bit more pop-sounding than I thought - at times I'm reminded of Simply Red :). Yoshimi still rules.

Anyone else seeing them play at Reading?

Iai 03-31-2006 07:18 AM

They're playing Reading?!?

soniclovenoize 03-31-2006 08:09 AM

They were on Letterman last night... It ****ing rocked!

lcjs 03-31-2006 11:32 AM

A brilliant line-up this year; even better than last year, in fact. It's not perfect, but Radiohead are already playing V Festival so we'll have to make do with Muse. Not that you can tell Yorke and Bellamy apart anyway...

fingis 03-31-2006 12:03 PM

there a great band. i own hit to death in the future head and the soft bulletin.

Bukowski 03-31-2006 07:29 PM

They're playing near me in a month or so, i'd love to see them but it's sold out.

I love them, although i don't listen to them that much anymore. My favorite is probably Transmissions From the Sattelite Heart. They've helped me through some tough times in the past, since you can't listen to the Flips and not feel much happier afterwards.

neighborhood fascist 03-31-2006 07:39 PM

I think Soft Bulletin is a lot better than Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots.

YDload 03-31-2006 07:43 PM

The only album I have (and its just on my computer) is Clouds Taste Metallic, but there isn't a bad song on it and I think it's just great. Like stoner Muppets.

Bukowski 03-31-2006 07:47 PM
I think Soft Bulletin is a lot better than Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots.
Well yeah, it is better. Yoshimi isn't all it's cranked up to be for me, it's no more than decent. Although In The Morning Of The Magicians is a perfect song.

sgrevs 03-31-2006 09:07 PM

I have Clouds Taste Metallic, The Soft Bulletin and Transmissions From the Satellite Heart, and the all rule pretty damn hard.

What a band, Wayne's voice is just fantastic.

neighborhood fascist 03-31-2006 10:05 PM

Has anyone ever heard of the band The Orange Peels? Well, the beginning of the first track on their album Circling the Sun sounds a lot like the beginning of "Race for the Prize."

RetiredAt21 04-01-2006 08:18 AM

Really really good band. I love'em.

Sleeper 04-02-2006 12:27 AM
I think Soft Bulletin is a lot better than Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots.
The Soft Bulletin has better songs, but Yoshimi is a better album overall IMO. It's mood and tone is great, it gives me a futuristic/fun feeling when i listen to it. The beats are far better in Yoshimi (I'm a big Electronica fan) so Yoshimi is high in my list.

Tangy zizzle 04-02-2006 12:49 AM

It's possible that they've claimed the prize of being my favourite band.

PECOAE 04-02-2006 10:56 PM

I got an advanced copy of At War With the Mystics, and it's bleeping awesome!

The Lips rock!

Sleeper 04-03-2006 03:06 PM

They have the new album on Torrents, but i would rather wait for it tomorrow and buy it. Plus there streaming it on there site, so i don't want to get sick of it.

Zesty Mordant 04-03-2006 05:10 PM

All i have is Yoshimi and The Soft Bulletin and they are both pretty ace. I'll probably pick up the new one.

As well, hopefully I'm not the only person who thinks Zaireeka is a completely unnecessary, impratical, and therefore crappy, album.

PECOAE 04-03-2006 06:20 PM

At War is an awesome album - in my opinion better than anything they've done before.

Sleeper 04-03-2006 06:42 PM

It's definitly different, I'm glad they decided to do more of a rock album.

MindlessPickle 04-04-2006 05:44 AM

Sweet! Flamings Lips are heading to Sweden :D, now I REALLY have to check out their new album.

Bukowski 04-04-2006 06:02 AM
At War is an awesome album - in my opinion better than anything they've done before.
i like the new album and all, but no way!

PECOAE 04-04-2006 06:04 PM

Come on?!

Have you heard the sonic landscaps and atmospheres of the middle group of the songs, or the heaviness of the first and last few?

IT ROCKS!!

Zebra 04-04-2006 06:08 PM
As well, hopefully I'm not the only person who thinks Zaireeka is a completely unnecessary, impratical, and therefore crappy, album.
I strongly disagree. While it is a pain in the *** to get things set up, once you do the sound is excellent. Machine in India is ace and although a lot of songs are hit or miss it's still a strange and interesting listen. Plus I don't think it's really ment to be take seriously.

PECOAE 04-04-2006 06:14 PM

I have to listen to these, apparently.

MemoryMachine 04-05-2006 04:35 AM

Zaireeka is sublime - be bothered to set it up.

Undisco Kidd 04-05-2006 12:28 PM

They really are an amazing band.

MemoryMachine 04-05-2006 12:32 PM

How much did the Soft Bulletin' companion set you back?

ThisUserIsAPipebomb 04-07-2006 09:24 PM

Right now, Flmaing Lips are playing War Pigs on tv.

It is awesome.

Sleeper 04-08-2006 11:43 AM

I saw there appearance on Austin City Limits the other night, it was pretty short but amazing.
