I know Davey is a straight edge, He has the markings on his hand in The Leaving Part 2 video.
|
Since when do all straight edge bands sound the same?
They don't have to, but they often tend to. At least from what I've listened to, not saying it all osunds the same. |
Ive never heard of any edge bands.
|
Ive never heard of any edge bands.
Minor Threat |
The All Hollow's EP was their best in my humble opinion. I liked The Art Of Drowning too, but there were some seriously crappy songs on that CD.
|
The songs i really like off Drowning are, 6 to 8, Days of the phoenix, Morning star.
|
Minor Threat
Are you sure they're actually edge though? |
AFI is ok, I like some songs, but otherwise they are kind of meh.
|
Are you sure they're actually edge though?
Alot of people i know that are 'Straight Edge' like that band. |
So what are the current rumors on the new album?
|
Alot of people i know that are 'Straight Edge' like that band.
They started the movement with their song 'straight edge', i'm pretty sure the entire thing was a joke though. |
AFI's great, one of my favorite bands. I can't say that I like the way their music is going right now, though. I own all of their full-length albums, and I think Black Sails in the Sunset and Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes are their best releases. Sing the Sorrow was good, but its a really moody album and I can only enjoy it when I'm in the right mood.
So what are the current rumors on the new album?
I haven't heard much other than they are definetely in the studio recording it right now. Some are saying that they went in months ago, some are saying that they went in a few weeks ago. The album isn't expected until next year sometime. |
Got some catching up to do. =/
They were okay/good til they sold out. And by 'sold out' I mean changed their sound to get on MTV, made music videos, signed a major label for money and raised ticket prices for their shows.
I don't get how they did. I think Sing The Sorrow seemed like a natural progression for the band after The Art Of Drowning. They changed plenty of times during the course of their existence without trying to be on MTV. Plenty of bands I bet you listen to make music videos. They signed to a major label because Dexter of Nitro Records told them that they couldn't do much more for the band than they had done in the past, being that Nitro is an indie label. Dexter suggested they leave Nitro. I don't know about ticket prices as I have never seen them live. But that's what happens when you are on a major.
I remember El_Shizzy did a excellent AFI thread a while ago.
Thank you. :)
Are they really straight edge? They don't sound like most bands that are.
Davey and Jade are the only edge members in the band.
So what are the current rumors on the new album?
Nothing new has come out in a while, but last I heard (which was a few months ago) they had a LOT of songs together, but not yet recorded. They were in the studio at the time though.
They started the movement with their song 'straight edge', i'm pretty sure the entire thing was a joke though.
Haha, no Ian really claimed edge. But it wasn't really a movement 'til him. He really didn't smoke, drink, or f'uck. Not sure about nowadays although I know he doesn't claim edge anymore. But I've seen an interview with him, so he was serious about it. He really walked the walk. I think that about does it. AFI is coming up next in my playlist with my second favorite song of theirs, "The Boy Who Destroyed The World". And ummm, my thoughts? If you can't tell, I am in love with this band. Not the best thing to happen to punk by any means, but they are my favorite band. Words cannot describe all that owns about this band in my mind. |
I downloaded some stuff off the Haloween EP, I still would rather buy it. I listened to Fall Children and The Boy Who Destroyed The World.
|
im a pretty big fan of AFI, but i wouldnt call them punk, theyre older stuff maybe, but definatley not anything after a fire inside ep. im actually a member of the Despair Faction (thier official fanclub), i only joined to get the rad package. with thier next album apparently Adam is tracking drums right now. I have all thier cds, but i dont have any of their vynals. My favorite albums are Answer that and Shut your mouth, im not really into Sing the Sorrow, its a good album, but nowhere near as good as thier older stuff. If anyone wants to join an un-official afi forum heres the url: www.cruisecontrolforums.tk
also im a newbie to this board, so hi everyone. id like to finish by saying Hunter is the raddest member. |
i think they are a good band, used to be much beter than they are now, anyone know of any uk tour dates yet ?
|
So what are the current rumors on the new album?
i am under the impression they're recording alot of tracks that they wrote for sing the sorrow that didn't get on the album. they wrote something like 70 songs at that point, so there's about 55 left over. i'm not sure if they're also writing new ones too. what direction they go in though, i can't say. |
I have heard a few songs from other albums which are good. I only have Sing The Sorrow which is pretty good.
|
I enjoyed everything except sing the sorrow.
|
I have Sing the sorow, Shut your mouth and open your eyes, very proud of ya and Black sails in the sunset.
Sing the sorrow is my favourite... |
I really like their older stuff. I own black sails in the sunset, all hallows e.p., art of drowning and sing the sorrow. My favourite is art of drowning. I was pretty disapointed with sing the sorrow, I hope their new one will be better.
|
I hope their new one will be better.
i highly doubt it will be, there moving more into a techno-goth style of music, i think it will be an ok album, but there not gonna get better. |
techno-goth .
i don't even know what to think of that. how is sing the sorrow "techno" at all? |
Well there is the song Death of Seasons, plus I hear Davey and Jade are doing a techno side project.
|
Well there is the song Death of Seasons, plus I hear Davey and Jade are doing a techno side project.
death of seasons? is that the one you mean? unless you're talking about the cello (i think) outro, which still isn't techno, there's nothing in that song that seems even remotely out of place. and side projects aren't really the issue (although that's news to me, any more info?). |
There is techno in that song. Most noticeable at 1:10 into the song for about 15 seconds.
|
*digs through box of CDs*
*plays* i stand corrected. still, that's what, .4% of the album? |
Hey I'm not the one who called them techno-goth, just saying I can see where people get it from.
|
i know. that was partially directed at you, partially at him. i think people confuse cool sounding guitar effects with something that actually sounds like techno.
|
*digs through box of CDs*
*plays* i stand corrected. still, that's what, .4% of the album?
what i meant was that theyre gonna be including more techno stuff into there music, not replacing the other instruments. And plus davey and jade have a side project called Blaq Auido, which is like a dark EMB style techno outfit. And Davey does DJing under the alias 'DJ Glitterboy'. I like AFI, but sometimes they just make me think "WTF?". |
Link me to this Blaq Auido you speak of, I wish to hear them.
|
http://www.blaqkaudio.com/
sorry thats the most helpful i can be, i dont think they have actually recoreded anything yet, im and not sure if they will, they were just talking about it. Why must AFI be so secretive and mysterious. |
Good band but their olders stuff was wayyyy better!
|

they haven't really strayed into techno just yet, and if they've got a techno side project, i can't imagine their new album is going to be techno-laden. and let's not forget, it's their band, and i cede them the right to make their own decisions about what they play above any third party, myself included. |
That link sucks, do they have any songs up somewhere?
|
That link sucks, do they have any songs up somewhere?
i searched the DF board and cant find anything, i dont really know whats going on with that. |
Afi is the ****ing ****, i love them, espcially there old stuff
|
Their old stuff is quality.
|
They really rocks. A Winter's Tale, Falling Children and Porphyria Cutanea Tarda are great! And they have good lyrics
|
I really hate the way everyone was calling the drum and bass break on "Death of Seasons" Unique. I heard it and it reeks of Refused. but It's still great. Personally I love A.F.I. my favourite song would have to be either Ever and a Day or Total Immortal.
