Isn't the superstar an entry level kit?


On a seperate and much better note... Wow is all I have to say, at first I didn't like it too much I'm not a fan of the breaking then starting but when it got flowing it was amazing, I love that cowbell groove, man, AMAZING looked real smooth too, that is great.

that cowbell was HOT.

I'm glad this thread was resurrected. This is honestly one of my favourite videos of all time, and Plan B is a big influence on me.

this is the first i've seen of this thread. That was a good video...I enjoyed the timbale-esque grooves.

I have to say though...your left hand traditional was making my hand hurt. The way you held it vertical from the top look like it makes a lot extraneous motion... but it's music...a sound is what matters... it just looks so painful.

Really? I found that his right hand was the one putting me off.. haha.

Good playing but he/you raise(s) his/your right elbow up high, which I don't suppose is such a terrible thing, just makes me feel awkward.:lol:

That's funny, because when he plays it relaxes me and I really feel the groove. Everything is so smooth. Shhhhh......

^^^maybe both of his hands are in need of technique reshaping. Who knows... i've decided to quit being so strict about technique since most master classes i've attended have said that it's all about sound..not about technique.... unless of course you're going to damage something....

What sorta snare were you using in that video? I love the sound of it. Similar to what sorta sound I wanna go for (I'm currently snare shopping).
Oh and how do you have it tuned?

Here's an old thread with some pictures of the kit, and how I had it set up at the time. I don't think the cymbal set up was the same though, the HHX was probably a Vault, and there was also a big A Custom Projection crash on the right.

The main snare is a 5.5x14 Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute w/ Nouveau lugs, it has a Evans Genera with the built it muffling ring. Tuned medium/loose, with snares cranked tight for sensitivity. Note the snares were off for about half the video though, haha. The aux. snare is the one that came with the kit, I think it's a 5x14, with a coated single ply head on it, can't tell you much more about it because I don't have it anymore. But it's definately tuned quite high, I wanted a big contrast between the two despite their similar sizes.

About the technique, I haven't watched the video in a long time, but I'll review it tomorrow after practice.

Yeah, I think a lot of people think that what is good for them is good for everyone but that may (and most likely isn't) the case. My drum teacher's pretty cool with that because he lets me find my own way sort of, as long as it's effective and not bad.

I was just saying that this video made me personally feel a little awkard, but that's because I'm a bit of a lazy drummer. Haha.

The only advice I would have (if you're not already doing it) is to get a huge mirror and put it directly in front of your kit. It's surprising how quickly you can fix "the look" of your playing, not to mention enforce good technique. I think a lot of us have these weird little habits (not you specifically) that we don't even know that we do... like I used to play with my mouth hanging open, and make these constipated faces during fast stuff. Once I got a mirror, the problem fixed itself.[/QUOTE]

I played almost the entire day of drums at church (playing at church and then a practice for the carols night coming up in a few weeks) in traditional grip.

Fun! I'm not as good at it as you are though, but getting better! Love Traditional grip, just feels cool.

[/QUOTE]It all depends on the applicatation, I was at a youth ralley and the drummer for one song would use his 12" wuhan for a nice quick accent and my friend loved it and he hates china's, he even refers them as trash can lids.

Still haven't watched it yet by the way, I'm just to tired from practice to handle it, hahaha.
