I got the 6 about a month ago, had to import it from the US which took ages..but it's worth, I love it.
I assume the two are going be the same apart from stringness so my few pennies: Construction is hardcore, most solid bass I've ever played, not too heavy either. HOWEVER, the blend knob is very stiff in the middle 50%, with only the last 1/4 in each direction being smooth, which is annoying as it makes it difficult to feel the little resistance to let you know it's in the mid point, but it's not a major problem and probably only limited to mine. Tones: huge variety, 18v preamp really shines through, only thing that comes up as an issue here with the wide variety is that you'll really need to try and remember where the dials go in case they get moved (which they inevitably will). I'm currently having an issue with this and my sansamp, where the sansamp is managing to suck most of the growl out resulting in a weird hi-fi sorta sound with the mid up, but I'm working on it. Back to the bass :P Action great, scale great, 6er takes a bit of getting used to blahblahblah all that jazz. EXCELLENT bass for the price (I paid the equivalent of £500 including shipping and custom fees, which is a lot less than the £645 Soundcontrol wanted to charge me for a Warwick rockbass) I'd put this at least level with my Stingray in terms of quality and only slightly below my Yamaha TRB1005 (which I think I got the best one ever made, so it doesn't really count). If you're thinking about getting a Schecter Studio, you need to be buying it. 5/5 |
One question, since it already has an 18v preamp, if i wanted to change the HZ's to active EMG's, where would I put the extra battery?
|
From what I've heard about it from EMG, it would run off that battery pack.

The preamp is active... I don't see how changing the pickups would require another battery |
Since the pickups went from passive to active he was wondering if they needed another battery.

There's no such thing as active pickups, just active circuitry/preamps iirc |
Err I think EMG makes active pickups, and passive pickups, along with active pre amp.
|
Their is such thing as active pickups. They are electromagnets like an average pickup but with a stronger pull and an eq shape per determined by EMG.
The HZ series is passive while the standard EMG is active and dose require a batter. As for were to put it. You could route a new batter box or try and fit it in the cavity. But it is rather pointless to put an all active setup with an 18 volt pre amp it already has great headroom. |
oh and I have played one and I don't like the EMG setup. Its to sterile for me and the color is horrible imo. It dose play rather well though.:thumb:
